I can’t control that 17th Feb 2023 15:50Sometimes a headline is misleading, and other times people just read the few words that make up that headline. There’s plenty of those about especially on Twitter and Instagram. In Russell Martin’s case this morning he was edged in to answering questions on his Swansea future. It now seems some clever manipulation has been offered to suit the anti Russell Martin narrative, and regardless of our position or any opinion on his future, that’s really poor form. 0 Contract ? What contract ? Click above.

| Russell Martin’s contract ? We will have to wait & see. It’s external. I on 18:16 - Feb 17 with 2125 views | max936 | I just cannot see how he can continue beyond this season, it'll only make sense if as usual it comes down to finances, if he stays and recruitment doesn't improve and Martin doesn't improve his methods, we'll be looking down the barrel, IMO Sadly, I'm unable to see how he can improve, I just don't see it myself, a parting of the ways looks nailed on to me. | |

Here’s the rub as the big boys say. He will get a contract if he agrees to a summer player budget that suits the Americans, plus a NDC regards future statements that could undermine the majority owners. And his contract increase is a minimal improvement to what he is on now. And that includes the rest of his staff. Regardless of the basics of the contract, this will be his deal. It’s down to him to decide if it’s worth it.

On that basis, it looks like a new contract will be offered to him then ? There'll be only one man and his Dog at the Liberty if that happens, I don't see him having the ability to change his tactic's he's got idealistic views on playing the game, but doesn't have the players to play that way and he's not gonna get them, he 's unable to sort out the defence, our defence is worse than a sieve, Dear Me.

But we are different Dr . By now, most clubs in this league would have rid themselves of him. Ive read Keith’s eloquent notice on this and feel, frankly,my time is up. I will not go to see my team run by this man and I no longer look forward to games . My wife and I have had quite a nasty exchange regarding me vis a vis the Swans ,as she’s put up with a lot in over forty years but this is worse for me personally. This is because when we didn’t have a pot romp in ,we knew it was unavoidable ,but this situation is easily reversible . I have accepted failure and I am seriously very uncomfortable with this In view of some posts made earlier,Inam not posting any more or at least for the foreseeable future Matters haven’t been helped by the death of a good chum who was also a very long term fan . We will be unable to make his funeral and it’s really upset me .

If he signs a contract with those constraints then he has only himself to blame. Also no manager worth his salt would come here under such constraints. I am all for balancing the books, but these owners are strangling the club with their fiscal tightness. Only one way they will take us - and it isn't up

Do I really have to go through what they have put in, in relation to every other owner we have had again? All for criticism if it’s warranted, but at the moment it’s like criticising Messi for not scoring enough in his career. It’s just not representative of reality.

I agree, we've regressed these last two season's our best chance of going up was with Cooper, but they wouldn't back him in that January and slowly but surely Coopers desire drifted away from him, they go on about returning to the Premier League and we and them had a cracking chance that year, but they wouldn't loosen the purse strings, yet their are still peddling the nonsense about getting back to the Premiership, paying us lip service plain and simple..

He is a frustrating manager, I find it hard to label him a poor one, although that is the standard he is showing so it is probably accurate. But he has many good ingredients there. His issue is that his basic knowledge of the game seems extremely thin. Tactical errors and huge gaping holes in the logic behind his system that he can’t seem to see. If he went away to work with a real continental manager, learned from him so he actually understands what is needed in a possession and passing game. Then I’m sure he would come back a decent manager. Then his belligerence and stubbornness would have a point to it and those traits would actually then become a positive. But when you have those traits behind a process that is fundamentally flawed, it becomes damaging. That’s what we are seeing now.

Our best chance was with Potter. Ollie McBurnie Dan James Van der Hoorn Joe Rodon Conner Roberts Leroy Fer Martin Olsson Then the usual Grimes, Naughton and Fulton mob. 10th was a shocking finish really.

Certainly not. Because it’s flawed by its very nature. There is a reason nobody else plays this way, even with the best players in the world at their disposal.

You got to remember it was mcburnie James rodon Connor Roberts first season up from u 23s and grimes second season. They had all been out on loan and struggled accept Roberts who done quite well at Yeovil, and grimes who was in and around first team..so potter was pushed into playing these players and got them playing..so now that sounds a great team but really it was a load of untried under 23s,potter done a great job..

Not quite true. McBurnie had 16 appearances in the Premier League for us and was on loan the season before, to Barnsley and scored 9 in 17 games, then went on to score 24 goals in 44 for us. He was raring to go for us. Dan James hit the ground running and people couldn’t handle him from the outset, he just wasn’t able to break in at the Premier League level due to the talent we had. Man City was interested in Rodon for a while. These weren’t kids that we had no idea how they would do, they were all acquired with the intent for them to get us back up there should we be relegated and have to sell our first teamers. Potter certainly underachieved. But with the fickle nature of football, people struggle to see past style of play.

Our owners are certainly smart with their own money. If they feel we aren’t likely to return their investment they’ll not rubber stamp a new contract for RM as it’ll be a poor investment of their money. RM’s relationship with the owners looked to be frail. No backing in the Jan window (for whatever reason) may be due to worries about how RM will utilise any investment, and openly criticising his employers by wheeling out his entire staff to a press conference to plead “we are not to blame, I’ve seen how hard they work” will have infuriated the owners (as RM admitted). Is it clever management by the owners to consistently turn the screw on RM so his position becomes obviously untenable? If they feel this season is a mid-table finish then ‘no harm done’ and we’ll force his hand towards resignation (or ‘mutual agreement’ as it’s termed)? Either way, I feel RM has lost the support of the fans and owners are aware of this, which will ultimately provide them with the publicity digestible excuse the owners are probably IMO looking for. But if we win the majority of our matches before the end of the season then RM will stay. So ultimately it’s in RM’s hands. Which is exactly how it is for all football managers - it’s a results game and results define your future career. COYS

It is quite true.james went to Shrewsbury on loan and struggled ,rodon went to Cheltenham and couldn't get much game time..so what's your point ..as potter was forced to play untried youngsters who went to flourish for him..

So would you say in your opinion, he is offered a new contract and its up to him if he signs. Failing that he sees out the remaining 16 months of his contract on current terms, unless he resigns. Ultimately the owners will not sack him.
