Both Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City have won 4 games out of the last 6. On current form the owls are sixth, the swans second. Swansea haven’t beaten Sheff Weds In the league for nine games at Hillsborough, the last time in a 2-0 win in December 2009. Matches recently in Sheffield have been close affairs, the last game was drawn 2-2.
Remember the game ?
Wednesday is one of the oldest football clubs in the world of any code, and the third-oldest professional association football club in England. In 1868 its team won the Cromwell Cup, only the second tournament of its kind. They were founding members and inaugural champions of the Football Alliance in 1889, before joining The Football League three years later. In 1992, they became founder members of the Premier League. The team has spent most of its league history in English football's top flight, but they have not played at that level since being relegated in 2000. Current manager is in a caretaker role, Neil Thompson. He replaced Tony Pulis who was manager for just 45 days. Before that Garry Monk was manager but left in unusual circumstances. The police are still looking in to whether he had been burgled or not.
The origins of the name Wednesday is interesting. The founding members of the club called the team Wednesday as that was when they all had a day off work. If the club were to be formed nowadays they would be called Sheffield Weekly. Abergavenny Thursdays is another example of lazyness, again local workers were given a half day on Thursdays so the layabouts could get trollied and be Welsh. Interestingly, before days of the week were invented ‘Cardiff Mudpile FC’ just a few moans to the east of us wanted to be called ‘Yeah I know Hooooof, Hooooof, Aye McCarthy, big head, Hooooof ! FC ‘ Nothing to do with Sheffield Wednesday but a football fact is a football fact. Can’t deny it.
Yeah I know Hooooof, Hooooof, Aye McCarthy, big head, Hooooof ! FC Cardiff City’s proposed name back when Claaaaaaaaaaarkes Poies was considered a poisonous snake venom.
Barry Monks used to be Sheffield Wednesday manager, when he left he hadn’t been burgled and not one member of his family decided to mug off and slag the city of Sheffield on Twitter, or anything like that because that would be self obsessed, clown like pathetic, knobhead behaviour. Of course not that they would ever do that. Ever. At all.
Barry Monks in his swimming pool yesterday. His wife, surprisingly was unavailable for comment. Which is odd.
Well, I’ll be damned.
Football Facts
Due to the fact Sheffield Wednesday have not paid their monthly direct debit to South Yorkshire rubbing sticks together board, this game has been postponed.
Tonight's wake up call will thrust us to yet another level of application which should blow away turgid Weds.
The massive learning tonight will get us back up on our toes. Fringe players will now be firmly categorised as such and our finishers will be worth their weight, which could make all the difference. Cooper will ruthlessly cut the wheat from the chaff, once and for all.

Pretty unforgivable really that a club the size of Wednesday should be calling games off due to a frozen pitch. Yes, it's been a week of cold weather, but nothing exceptional really for the time of year. It's one thing for a smaller club like Rotherham to not have undersoil heating but for Hillsborough's to be broken, with Wednesday having no intention of repairing it, is quite another and a real kick in the teeth.
Like others have said, that's 2 games off in two weeks now and we may well risk falling behind a bit. As we all know, points on the board are better than games in hand, so hopefully this'll be our last postponement this season.

Rotherhams home game is off already. Apparently ours could go same way.
Does Hillsborough have undersoil heating? Does the New York stadium?
I asked so I looked, yes. Hillsborough has a part synthetic pitch, like ours and it has undersoil heating too so as long as they can keep the pitxh clear the game should be on.
I'll go with score first and we win. I reckon Morris could do some damage to these lot, he looked quick against the Mancs. I'd start Ayew and Morris, fresh legs,
Ridiculous that games are off for a frozen pitch in the championship, very poor from Sheffield Wednesday, have they got players missing so have left heating off deliberately.?
