Despite a final offer with add ons of nearly three million pounds the club rejected every bid. Unfortunately for many swans fans this meant Tariqe Fosu of Brentford could not complete his deal to come on loan to west Wales. Pretty much all was agreed apart from a loan fee. 0 If you want to remove this post from the board index, just click the hide post icon below. Put the contract back on the table for a week, sign it or we move on with a new captain.

He’s obviously not worth the risk/or good enough for Fulham and they’re in our division FFS! He’s deluding himself if he thinks he’s good enough for the PL

He's more than good enough to fit into a PL squad (not in the top 6.)

And some of those on here who were convinced he would be snapped up by a PL club this summer Comes to something that even Potter didnt come after him and Brighton were in the market for a midfielder. An ok player in the Championship did an important job over 2 seasons for the last manager as many on here have stated but obviuosly other clubs have looked at him and thought he was possibly no better than they already had or there was better out there for the money. Again, did the club push the boundary too far in terms of asking price? Did he ask too much in terms? What do we do now?

We play him until January and see what happens then. We’ve effectively got him on loan unless he signs a new deal. Martin rates him. I’d say he’s head and shoulders above Smith and Fulton. Haven’t seen enough of Downes, but I’d be chuffed if he turns out better than Grimes. Paterson is further up the pitch, nothing to judge Walsh on. We turned down £2.9m I think, whilst selling Lowe for half that with time left on his contract. Could easily have accepted that and got another loan in if keeping him was an issue.

Which raises more questions about Winters managemtn of the club. It seems apparent that though Martin rates him Grimes would rather be elsewhere otherwise he woulsd surely have signed a new contract since MArtin's arrival and discussions they may/shoud/could have had? If the club held out for a higher valuation which killed the deal and lost us Fosu then it is a big mistake especially as you point out we almost "gave " Lowe away who had a longer contract....

Whether it was a mistake or not time will tell. However I think it indicates that Lowe did not figure at all in Martin’s plans and that Martin wanted Grimes to stay.

I’m guessing that’s Martins call. Financially would have been a no brainer to cash in and loan Fosu for the rest of the season. I also have to say I don’t like Grimes on top of the defence receiving the first ball out, facing our goal with opponents pressuring him. Can’t dispute he’d improve almost any team in the Championship though. He carried our midfield last season.

Exactly £4M for a premier league midfielder without any injury issues. Take out the top 6, that's 14 who thought he was not up to it.

| Matt Grimes stays means Tariqe Fosu doesn’t join Swansea City on 13:01 - Sep 1 with 950 views | Dr_Parnassus | Selling permanent players to fund loans when we are in consolidation mode isn't the smartest thing to do. If we have surplus money and we can add a loan to the squad, then that is great. But selling to fund loans I dislike, especially when we have no real designs on a promotion charge. He has more than enough for a mid table finish. | |

Not entirely sure why people think it’s Winter that makes these decisions to be honest. He acts under instruction as do all employees.

I’d dispute it to be honest. Which is why there was not very much interest in him. Fulham were interested to a point - get him cheap (for them) and ok, anything more and they didn’t want to know which is why he’s still here. Without a contract. So we’ve effectively just paid a £3m loan fee for a player that’s on a relatively large wage as well. That’s bad business in our position however good he is. And I’m not sure he’s anything other than relatively ordinary. He’s certainly no Leon. And that’s fine as not many are, but I’d have taken the £3m, signed Fosu to add a spark further up field, and played Walsh (if he’s ever fit), Ntcham, Downey, Smith, Fulton or Dan Williams in those midfield positions. I think Manning is ok there as well. I’d have got shot of Bennett as well. And Bidwell. And brought in some pace on the left.

Agree with all of that. I don’t see anything in Grimes that I’d want to pay 3m for, never mind for 40 games at most.

Not to mention several sides in this division.

It’s a sign of the talent we’ve lost that so many think Grimes is anything other than a reasonable squad player. He is a Mark Gower for me. Fine and can do a job, but won’t pull up any trees.

Got rid of Bennett and Bidwell and replaced them with who, looks like we struggled to get in what we did

Replace Bennett with Williams this year. We have Cabango, Cooper, Naughton, Manning, Lati (as back up). That’s six players for 3 positions without Bennett. Replace Bidwell with a left sided equivalent of Laird. Manning can play there if it’s hard to find one.
