I agree. The formation did us no favours and could have been easily altered.
The idea is that Downes or Grimes drop back into our defence when the opposition have possession, that works when a slow attack and time for us to get in position but when a quick counter attack we are left well short with our back 3.

It looks to me that Whittaker is not impressing the manager for whatever reason. He did not impress Rooney either which is why they let him go. He is only twenty so needs to do some thinking, take good advice and graft.
Cullen the academy boy listens and follows through instructions. 20 year old that do not improve will soon be in league 2. No doubt he has been told what he needs to work on.
Cooper did not ruin Cabango. Did a good job with him actually. Cabango has had a rough week. Played out of position against one of the leagues best teams, and ditched by the Wales team manager. Not the way to treat one of Wales's finest prospects. |  |

He is being played as a full back, which he isn’t, with nothing in front of him. And perversely Naughton is a rb played in the cente!
I played most of my football as a cb or lb and i would have ripped Laird apart on Saturday and tonight. Repeatedly called for passes then either stood still or ran away from the ball and didn't support the defence.
Not sure what basics he failed to do but i agree he was poor until hecstarted going forward more centrally in the second half. |  |
