| The OHL Definitive Albums of All Time on 11:15 - Dec 20 with 1465 views | Robbie | Pictures at an Exhibition - Emerson , Lake + Palmer . Electric Warrior - T . Rex . Every Picture Tells a Story - Rod Stewart . Completion Backward Principle / Remote Control - The Tubes . Queen 1 - Queen . Bat out of Hell - Meat Loaf . Plenty I have overlooked and deserve a mention , alas I really cannot get into any of todays music culture , i am sure there is good stuff about though . Seem to be still listening to classic rock a lot more these days . | | | |
| The OHL Definitive Albums of All Time on 11:16 - Dec 20 with 1463 views | Catullus | Some songs have stopped me dea and made me think but not albums. I've never been that much into one band to buy their albums. Music is something that's on in the background, when I'm driving usually. If I like it, I just like it even if it's the blandest pop song (according to experts) and though there are some bands I generally like, Queen, ACDC, SLF, most of my albums are compilations. | |

| The OHL Definitive Albums of All Time on 12:16 - Dec 20 with 1433 views | Whiterockin | 5 off the top of my head, I'll probably update when I think of them through time. Bridge over troubled water. Simon and Garfunkel. Sgt Peppers. Beatles. Pet sounds. Beach boys. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust. David Bowie. Gasoline Alley. Rod Stewart. | | | |
| The OHL Definitive Albums of All Time on 12:18 - Dec 20 with 1433 views | Professor | In no defining order Marvin Gaye-What's going on. "Mercy, mercy me" Teenage Fanclub-Bandwagonesque. "She wears denim wherever she goes, says she's going to get . some records by the Status Quo". Indie Rock at its finest at most catchiest Boo Radleys-Giant Steps. Near forgotten psychedelic pop masterpiece from the Wirral. REM-Life's Rich Pageant. Hard to pick from the first 11 REM LPs, but this was the first I owned and 'Fall on Me" and "Cuyahoga" remain in my Top3 REM songs Neil Young-After the Goldrush. After all "Only Love can break your heart" The Smiths-Meat is Murder. Difficult choice again-the first three LPs all have their merits, but I'm probably most likely to sing "Rusholme Ruffians' or "what she said' when cleaning the bathroom later, so get the nod ve the debut and the Queen is Dead XTC-Apple Venus Volume 1. Again hard choice between a few, but Andy Partridge perhaps remains Britain's great undiscovered songwriting genius. Cocteau Twins- Treasure. Still as hauntingly beautiful as it was when I was sixteen Pixies-Surfer Rosa. A great unhinged pop record with amazing Steve Albini production. 'There were rumours he was into field hockey players...." Wedding Present-Seamonsters. Leeds' finest greatest (and loudest) LP also recorded by Steve Albini. Described as akin to 'sandpapering your ears" in the NME at time of release. Still sounded great live last month. Beastie Boys-Licence to ill. Rich NYC boys produce the gateway drug to hip hop. Help open the door in the UK for Run DMC, Public Enemy, LL Cool J and Mantronix. A golden age of innovation and songs not about shooting, ho's or cars but of social conscience and fun. Kitchen of Distinction-Strange Free World. Most obscure choice, but a band I loved and this was the best of their five LPs. Manic Street Preachers-Everything must Go. A sad and optimistic record. A sound track of change in my life that was for the better. And Mrs Prof's favourite Beatles-Revolver. Always a better LP for me that Sgt Pepper's. Starts with 'Taxman' and ends with ' Tomorrow Never Nows'. And threw down the gauntlet for ..... Beach Boys-Pet Sounds. Brian Wilson's work of genius fulled bye competition to better the Beatles. Perhaps the greatest pop LP ever? 'God Only knows' The Fall- The wonderful and frightening world of The Fall. Again could have picked a whole slew of MES and the gang. But agin, the first one I bought after seeing Michael Clarks' arse dancing to "Lay of the Land' on Whistle Test. ' Two little girls with only 50p, they had to take, they had to put the Curly Wurly back" Echo and the Funnymen-Ocean Rain. Best LP from Liverpool's shrinking violets. New Order-Power, Corruption and Lies. Take a sequencer and give it to a bunch of Mancunian miserabists. Joy Division-Closer. The hardest choice. Pre-40 would always have gone for 'Unknown Pleasures' but age and reflection take it to this. Twenty Four Hours. As Cat says plenty of bands and artists who I really where the LP is too patchy for me or I have developed antipathy (Stone Roses for example) -so perhaps a list of songs for New Year? | | | |
