Gutted, terrible news. First met him at the players entrance at the Vetch when he was playing for Scunthorpe. A shining light in British football and will be greatly missed.
RIP King Kev. | | | |

A proper footballer at a time when England should have been so much better.
Back in the days when many lower league footballers made it to the very top.

Liverpool just had a supreme knack for turning lower league players into stars!
We will never see those days again imo... Keegan himself came from Scunthorpe United, then there was Phil Neal : Northampton Town…Ray Clemance : Scunthorpe United…Alan Hansen : Partick Thistle…Ian Rush : Chester…Steve Nichol : Ayr United…Ronnie Whelan : Home Farm.
What a special bygone era it truly was!

Always remember that photo he had done with David Giles, & that Batman and Robin thing with Tosh. I really liked him as a person, & he was some player too.
Such sad news. RIP. | | | |

Wonderful man.
My good friend Terry Magee in Ammanford used to raise money for terminally ill kids. For one of them, Jack, Terry wrote to Arsenal, ManUre, Liverpool and Man City to see what they could do. Arsenal said to send ÂŁ50 and they'd send a signed football. With Liverpool and ManUre, it was ÂŁ40. Terry wrote to man City on the Tuesday and on the Thursday he had a hand written letter from Kevin Keegan. Sent Tuesday, received and replied first class on the Wednesday, received back by Terry on the Thursday. Kevin Keegan said Terry had to contact his PA immediately. She was waiting for his call.
At the time Man City were about to be promoted, so they said that in September they would bring jack, his parents and sister to Manchester. She explained that the players were busy on match day, so they'd arrange for him to come up on the Friday and go to their training session. He could have unlimited photos with the players, as well as autographs and anything else he wanted. Man City would put the family up in a 5-star hotel for 2 nights, as well as the best seats in the ground for the 4 of them.
Unfortunately, jack was too ill to go, so had to cancel the weekend. The following morning, two huge hampers arrived for Jack. Everything in the club shop was in there, all signed by Kevin and the team. Track suit, hat, football, mug, scarf, keyring, everything.
Kevin Keegan was just a remarkable human being.

Still remember him on Superstars, a real competitor especially when he came off his bike, if you've not seen it, it's worth a look on YouTube, certainly a different time.

RIP , one of my favourite players of the early 70’s and his partnership with Toshack was at times wonderful to watch . He did have a fiesty side to him as witnessed with his and Billy Bremners sending off at Wembley but a gifted technical player who I had the pleasure of witnessing playing live at Anfield on a couple of occasions when I was stationed in Preston .

On hearing of his sad passing , straight away the Tosh and Keegan pairing brought back memories of good times watching MOTD on a Saturday night before saturation point took over on football broadcasting .
Scunthorpe United to legend status , well done Kev .

I remember him in the great Liverpool sides of the 70's . I think he started out at Doncaster Rovers . RIP an icon of the football mad 70's
P.S I have it on good authority his Harley Davidson sportster went for ÂŁ35 000 at auction at National motorcycle centre NEC Birmingham .A British Bidder from the states won it .It was resplendent in Newcastle Utd colours . Part of the sale price went to charity
Also auctioned incidentally was a custom made bike by Allen Millyard with a V 10 engine ( yes, thats right) capable of 190 mph. [Post edited 23 Jul 22:02]
