Do we really have to? Cardiff match thread... 07:46 - Oct 31 with 42838 viewsdavman

As enthused about this one as can be.

Wallace might be back, but our best player probably won't be because the club has decided to impose the unwritten clause in a contract, which is we might have triggered a one year option, but our option for that year is not to play you during that extra season unless you commit even further to this clown show.

As always in the middle of such a run, I can't see any sign of recovery and we'll not score with this lot, so it's a case of how many for them (I'm going for 3). The usual bright start followed by an embarrassing first after 20 minutes then the traditional QPR collapse.

20th now. Suddenly 16th looks a pipedream...

Can we go out yet?

Thought he did a lot in our favour too you know. Kane should have been given a second yellow for starters.

So should have Ralls for that lunge on Barbet, which imo was nearly worthy of a straight red alone, then a minute later tackling from behind to stop BOS

DistortR said at the start that MW had the ability to halt the bad runs, something Schteve and Ollie both had big problems with, now he needs one of those winning runs he's been capable of as well. Would settle everyone down!

the amount of negativity after a much needed - and quite unlikely after 90 minutes - win, is disappointing. Do we have to be digging players out all the time?

Actually I don't mind that so much - clear errors by Barbet and Masterson but to blame the manager, just to 'prove' your agenda.....never understood that, never will.

Dom Ball take a bow! Stunning strike. I actually shrieked like an old biddy when it flew in. Unbelievable.

However, Ball has hugely bailed out Warburton.

I know PP went way OTT, but he is right, you can coach defenders not to give away penalties. You coach and practice staying on your feet in the box in practice matches and attack versus defence. You create a ethos of discipline where if players fail to follow instruction, you hold them accountable. Both the playing and mental side of the game are coachable. It is the head coach’s job to make sure that is happening. It’s patently not. It’s unprofessional and I’ll disciplined and the buck stops with MW.

Yes the players make the direct errors, but he responsible for coaching them to not make such errors.

5 pens in 3 games?! There is a fundamental problem with discipline if that’s happening.

But for tonight, thank you Dom Ball!

You have a point Hunter but it just looked like another jibe at Warburton, when we'd played pretty well apart from the pens. We've improved a lot defensively in set pieces, which was our previous problem area, he's had two new fullbacks to work with and a new centre back. I think we can cut him a bit of slack when there's so much to work on and so few training days in between matches.

We also had a problem not being able to score, so that was another priority. And sticking your hand up in the air when there isn't much danger around you isn't something I'd expect to have to tell professional footballers.

You may have to tell an Under 8s but by 9 years old, pretty sure most get it!

As you say, moment of madness - it happens, but its 100% got nothing to do with the boss!

Dom Ball saved me the cost of a new laptop there. With 10 mins to go the stream started f-cling up, I saw their second pen and the whole rest of the game in freeze frame, thought Dieng had saved it, took five mins of f-cling about before the stream came back to realise he hadn’t, my two kids screaming at me the whole time high on Halloween sweets, I was about to throw the f-cling thing out the window.

Cheers Dom

Out of all of the penaltys only the Barbet one today was a nailed on chance . Another point is our failure to follow up the penalty save .4 players standing on the edge of the box static ..

Take your point but the guy who got the rebound was the taker, just bad luck not sure any of our players could have got to that

Up the Deise, Brian.

Now, now!

I bought the Cork game on-demand so I could watch Rangers live and the hurling aas-live afterwards. Evening sorted

Turned it on just after 5pm and the first thing it showed me was the FT score.

So that's that then!

Not me...0-2 Cardiff.

I gladly eat humble pie - well done Rangers and Mark Warburton. A fine win in the end.

I don't know what the lockdown will now mean for football (??) but this just helps right here right now...

Ya, I agree. I watched the replay at the time just to check that. Just bad luck.

Trick or treat? Follow QPR and get both, not just in the same game, but the same 5 minutes.

Forgot that was on earlier, thought it was this evening.

The poor old nephew is plagued by injury again - this time a hand injury in the opening couple of minutes of the recent Castlelyons defeat in the SHL final to Blarney.

The double whammy of that defeat is that a second Spillane brother should be knocking on the door of the Cork panel but I hear that unless Castlelyons won he won't get a look in at the moment - which is a pity as he has been on fire this campaign.

This MB was about 3 minutes away from the Mother of all meltdowns.

Nice one Dom Ball.

Sorry to hear that, Bosh.
I'm not as up-to-date with the hurling as I'd like to be as I'm involved with the football the last few years.

I had already decided to switch off for the night if we lost, Ted!

There was posters on here for the last ten minutes of the game acting as if we'd already lost.

In defence of the indefensible, having watched it a couple of times, the only possible explanation other than accepting it was a complete brain fart (which it was anyway) was that once Masterson realised it was going over his head, he threw his arm up to try and block the view of the ball to the Cardiff lad jumping with him and not actually meaning to play it with his hand.

If not, then I don't care how inexperienced a central defender is, at age 22 and having been trained in the Liverpool Academy, there simply is no excuse of handling a ball which is above your head in your own penalty area.

What a win! Still buzzing! We really needed that, you could see what it meant to the players. Let's hope this gives them the confidence to pick up a few more wins, we've got it in us.

Can I really justify spending £50 on that shirt? Really pleased to have my worst fears disproved today - what a fantastic goal to win it. Barbet and his fecking sliding tackles though.....

The scary bit about all the penos we have given away is that they have all been clear cut and they are being shared across our Central Defenders... Dickie brain fart last week, Barbet's slide-a-thon today - never going to win it and do not get me started on Masterson today.

Barbet deserves criticism today and he will get it, but Masterson's one was worse by a country mile. At that stage in the game, Cardiff were not threatening our goal; even if Moore had a free header there, he was going absolutely nowhere. Inexplicable. A "WTF" moment.

He has shown promise, but that was the most brain dead decision of them all.

Maybe they are trained to give penos away. I mean, we're so f-in good at stopping pens aren't we?

Are you sure Masterson touched the ball. Couldn't see he had on the stream.
