Eze 06:33 - Mar 1 with 20827 viewsHooparoo

Various outlets now claiming that Spurs and City (again) are looking at Ebs with Palace valuing him at c.7 million pounds. As an Aussie, I obviously know a bit about what Big Ange wants in a player and I’d say Eze fits the bill - quick, skilful and mobile. Defo an Ange type as far as I can see. Is it 10 or 20% we’re in for if he’s sold? Cash injection like that could make next season a bit more comfortable.

Hope he gets his big move as he’s a great example of determination and self confidence. Should get more England caps at a bigger club too.

This is all a bit like discussing our lottery win before the numbers are called.

Would be slightly amusing if Reading failed to put a sell-on clause in the deal for Oliseh.

Always wondered what happens If the clubs did a player swap instead? For example if Tottenham gave Palace three of their players....

Would we see any revenue from that based on the players value?

No we'd get fcked.

Similar situation - when we signed Luongo from Swindon, Tottenham had some Daniel Levy-special sell on fee of something ridiculous like 40%. So we bought Ben Gladwin at the same time and the deal was weighted something daft like 75:25 in Gladwin's favour, even though he was obviously the far inferior player. Swindon got to keep more of the cash and Levy got shafted so everybody wins. Until you see Gladwin play, that is.

Would that finally explain why we gave Sinclair to the 'ammers in return for a motley collection of donkeys?

If Pepe buys Eze, then Grealish will be on the way out. I suspect Pep does not like how Grealish holds on the ball too much, which is true, but he can unlock defences that park the bus.

However, Eze can do the same and can pass the ball further for quicker breakaways. If Pep can flog off Grealish for £70m, take a loss and then put that into Eze for trade-up, then I think Pep would do that. Big if, though.

Spurs need Eze more, as Maddison seems to be the only playmaker; they need another to compete. They have money from Kane so, they can afford it.

£14m would be very useful for us next year if we stay in the Champ.

But Grealish has become a lot more risk adverse under Pep and it’s part of the way city play with a focus on retaining possession to control games and not taking needless risks.

Grealish’s days were numbered under Pep following last season’s treble winning celebrations and all the coverage of how much Grealish likes a drink.

Big difference in drinking culture between Spain and England and I doubt it would’ve endeared Grealish to Pep in this day and age when top level footballers are expected to be elite athletes.

At this point Eze's physique seems about as reliable as an Italian Greyhound. Hopefully Palace cash in soon before he becomes the next Michael Owen.

Have to say I'm surprised he's been out as much as he has as he used to get booted all over the place playing for us and still seemed to play every week for about 3 seasons.

This might be because Palace don't have Shteve riding the lad like a broke dìck dog because his job depends on it. Or they have a competent medical staff.

City's error was buying Nunes from Wolves instead of Eze. Nunes looks completely out of his depth in a role that Ebs would have used to prepare for De Bruyne's inevitable exit. Hopefully they realise their error.

What's that in doubloons then?

It’s actually a quote from the movie “Rob Roy” when the dukes of Argyle and Montrose are setting a wager on a sword fight.

I think I remember that when we sold him the sellon only went up to a certain capped amount, bringing the potential total to a maximum of about £20m including whatever we got up front plus something for a certain number of appearances. So as long as he is sold for enough we'll get our maximum, but we won't get any more than that.

To maximise the sell on amount, we want him selected to start for England first and then sold to Spurs / Man City a week later.

He has perhaps triggered the "playing for England" bonus already.

Ie did come on for England in a full international friendly also anyhow

Not according to some reports!

They stated that a payment is due if he starts a game for England.

As far as has been reported, it is 20% of his next transfer fee, with no cap, and there is still a bonues of he starts an England game.

Worst case scenario for us is some kind of player swap with Grealish, although you'd assume palace couldn't get close to his wages

Eze’s just scored a free kick vs spurs that’ll do no harm to his chances of a big money move.

Although Palace Los, Eze scored.

I don't see a swap with Grealish, I don't see him wanting a move to London really

Report in The Guardian that Dougie Freedman moving from Palace to Man U as head of recruitment - maybe he takes Eze with him for big bucks!

Would be catastrophic. Luckily it’s very rare that you actually see swap deals in modern game with P&S/FFP rules. Plus I’m not sure Spurs have any squad players in the back of the store who would be acceptable swaps for our Ebs

I suspect if it couldn't be agreed, then it would find its way to some legal forum/football tribunal. Whereupon, we'd seek sight of how much Palace and the other club involved, had insured their respective players for, as an indicator of the value of Eze, and claim 20% of that.

Well that's added a frisson of concern!

If it came to it, a bidding war between several clubs resulting in a meteoric rise in price, would bring some relief and counter Levy's eventual £85.12p valuation.

It would be just like us if Eze goes to City for £50m and Grealish goes the other way for £70m and we pick up the shortfall on our percentage and end up owing Palace money back.

Never knowingly right.
