| Fan sites meeting with Christian Nourry 17:13 - May 15 with 46220 views | Northernr | There was an end of season debrief with the CEO at Loftus Road last night which I attended. We've whacked the audio on the Patreon, no pay wall on this so you should all be able to listen whether you've got a sub or not - please let me know if that's not the case. I'll perhaps type the minutes up physically over the weekend if I've got enough in the tank... https://www.patreon.com/posts/ | | | | |

A truly dreadful goalkeeper. Awful. He didn't play that often, thank god, but when he did invariably he made howlers. Remember an excellent game at Forest, I think we lost 3-2 and quite simply the rest of the team ran out of ways to make up for his blunders. Must have been a far better coach than player.

| Fan sites meeting with Christian Nourry on 11:11 - May 18 by TK1 | This revisionism is giving me PTSD from the time. It’s Gerry Francis propaganda. Interesting you say those are the players sold and did not replace. Under Thompson's chairmanship, these are some of the players signed (the best being by Howe): Bardsley, Wegerle, Impey, Wilson, Stejskal, Tilson, Peacock, Brevett, Bailey, Penrice, Holloway, Yates, Sinclair, Wilkins… Gerry’s recruitment was not a patch on Howe’s, but it suited him to make it be known he was being held back by Thompson. It was nonsense. We trying to remain financially viable. We then spent loads of money when Gerry left, but wasted it all. The trading model totally collapsed under Wilkins as we spent £1.5m on Hateley, £1m on Osborn, £1.25m on Zelic, £600k on Sommer…big sums on rubbish at the time. "We never signed anyone" is absolutely not true. Money was given to coaches to recruit then. As much as I loved Ray the player, he blew it as a recruiter. Under Thompson, QPR finished in the top division: 9th, 12th, 11th, 5th, 9th, 8th, 19th (boo-hoo, but with a contracted team that included Sinclair, Gallen, Bard, Murray, Brevett, Quashie etc). We also won the SE Counties and got to an FA Cup quarter final. Feats we have not achieved subsequently even with billionaire ownership. |
wasn't it more Bobby Gould who did those signings under Howe? you can blame who you want for it but there was an opportunity to sign a better keeper, more in midfield and more depth up front and stay in the league to grow. Was not mad money back then, Blackburn won the league spending about 15million. I'm not saying we could have won it that was always a big step but winning the odd cup and playing in Europe was more than achievable. We were ahead of Chelsea and even Spurs in the early 90s, we then stood still and they signed they signed some brilliant players and left us behind. We blew it not just then but once again under Fernandes

| Fan sites meeting with Christian Nourry on 11:38 - May 18 by Rangersw12 | We finished 5th in 92/93 London's top club and what did we do we sold Sinton to Sheffield fcking Wednesday and then sold Peacock on the last day of the transfer window when we could have potentially got into Europe It was a massive wasted opportunity at a time when you didn't need to spend ridiculous amounts of money as we already had a very good squad . To sum it up we had one of the best strikers in the country and then had Devin White as his backup !! |
Devon White was the fourth choice striker during this 1992-95 period, maybe not even that. We mostly had Les Ferdinand, Garry Penrice, Bradley Allen ahead of him - a very punchy trio, the latter two appeared many times more often, as well as Bailey in 92/93, playing 13 times in his final season compared to White's three appearances. Then in 1994/5 when Allen and Penrice were eased out/injured, Kevin Gallen played 32 games, Dichio 5, White just the once. Devon White was never Les's backup. He was just another weapon up front, very occasionally deployed. And nobody forced Gerry to mainly sign players he'd had at Bristol Rovers because he couldn't scout.

Gould was there for a month over Christmas to help Howe out and suggested Peacock and Tilson in that month, who both had an immediate impact on an injury ravaged team. Jim Smith, T Francis to a degree and Howe built great teams that allowed QPR to punch above its weight while CFC, Spurs and many others underachieved for several years. Subsequent recruitment was not good enough. But the model did not change. The idea that Thompson keeping QPR in the top half of the top division for six years is remotely comparable to the generational damage Fernandes wrought in three disastrous seasons in PL that included two relegations is for the birds. Chris Wright and Tony Fernandes (and co) are so far ahead of any other candidate in terms of longterm vandalism of QPR.

I don't think Nourry is the cartoon villain we make him out to be, but when he spoke about 'atmospheric challenges' as opposed to just saying 'weather' in relation to the pitch I didn't half roll my eyes! Well done Clive for not letting the point go. They've been caught raising prices for fans for a quick buck and should be called out on it. There does seem to be some understanding about what went wrong this season regarding injuries, lets see. Thought Matt Winton read out his pre prepared statement at the end beautifully

| Fan sites meeting with Christian Nourry on 08:56 - May 18 by dmm | Some interesting thoughts there, GaryBannister86. I think what's likely to happen to this divergence of views on Nourry is that the finishing position and cup performances over the next few seasons will largely settle whether or not he's a good CEO. It's difficult to argue with reality. |
Is it difficult to argue with reality though? Contemporary politics suggests not.

I was young so can't remember why but assume now it was something to do with the back pass rule and Stejskal struggled with his feet !? Later on also getting Stewart Houston in and then not signing a striker to replace Gallen completely screwed us in the first season after relegation I'm sure we could have got Curbishley [Post edited 18 May 11:48]

I'd much rather have had Stejskal struggle with his feet, than Roberts struggle with his hands.

| Fan sites meeting with Christian Nourry on 10:00 - May 18 by Hunterhoop | Yes and no. An important part of assessing someone is not just what they do/achieve but *how* they do it. The best organisations in the world tend to focus on this over the “what” because it’s a better indicator of long term success. The “how” is what you control. It’s the behaviours you display, the decisions you make, the words you use, it’s how you treat people, how you carry yourself, how trustworthy and honest you are. I want QPR to be led by people who care about the “how” and who try to be good people. Chelsea have always been the sc*m in this area. The ones who’ll do anything for a bit of success, who are nasty and self-centred. QPR and all other clubs have, at times, been led by people with questionable morals, of course. But whenever possible, I’d like the club to be led by people with values, who try to things in the honourable way, whenever possible. Part of my defence of Ferdinand was because he cared, how he carried himself, and the values he tried to instill in the youth set up. I’ve said elsewhere, I can just about hold my nose on this topic, if it delivers success. The end justifies the mean to some degree. But whilst the end isn’t yet justifying that, and we haven’t materially progressed, the “how” is so important, more so than the “what”. Good people are being burnt by the club’s leadership, others are fed up with how they’ve been treated, and the fan base is fracturing, which has been a deliberate social media ploy by the club’s leadership. The leadership is sowing unity, it’s sowing division. I really dislike the “how” and the end needs to be very very good to justify it. |

| Fan sites meeting with Christian Nourry on 13:06 - May 17 by Stainrod | Thank you Clive, appreciate you taking the trouble both to go and to transcribe the quotes. Mildly encouraged re the review into injuries, he seems (unlike Williams) to finally acknowledge what most fans have been saying for a long time now. Re sales - am surprised by his comment about keeping the core group together. If we are (sensibly) looking for incremental improvement rather than betting the ranch on promotion then tbh I would have thought everyone was up for sale at the right price. But tbf maybe he just doesn't want to sounds weak when other clubs inquire about our players. |
Agree, but felt the suggestion of keeping the group together was because he knows we're unlikely to get any acceptable offers this summer, so doesn't want to look like he was hoping to...Matt implied the same at the end. Its good that he's done this, but I felt like I learned nothing new. My biggest concerns on the whole thing were... 1. the 1 hour of confidential discussion - if he was sharing planned transfer targets, but didn't want that to be public fair enough, but I doubt it, and can't think what else would be ok to share with some fans but not others. 2. closing down the Car Giant question without comment, unless that was part of the confidential, which would have made it odd for someone to then ask about it. Even if he'd said they were exploring it as they do all land that comes up, but explain why he can't discuss it... its a big question for the club given the lack of alternatives and justifies more than 'no comment', its not the secret service. 3. he uses singular examples to justify a position e.g. referencing Sunderland vs confirming the average age of top 6 teams for the last 5 years, or the lower school end being the cheapest in the division, so all other ticket hikes are justified 4. finally, (may be unfair if it was in the confidential bit, but if not...) any good corporate CEO brings the presentation to the investors, providing updates on all the business priorities and demonstrating the progress made and challenges faced, then takes questions on it. Instead he turns up and just offers his time to answer questions, its so arrogant and unproductive. His inexperience shines through like a beacon, from his attitude to Clive, his let me educate you simpletons tone of voice, not knowing his numbers, no interest on reversing anything based on fans feedback, being excessively guarded, its all just a bit embarrassing. I thought that was just him saying they can calm the noise down on things like Bould doesn't work on Saturdays that wouldn't need a club statement but they can tell fans in that group who can pass it on. Nip that kind of thing in the bud before it grows into something else

Not a massive CN fan either, but you could also interpret his attitude as someone who has just finished a long season and is ready for his holiday. Probably feels the same as Clive who's had to write up god knows how many match reports over the season, and the last thing he wants to talk about is why there is no roof on the Stan Bowles stand, or how come Steve Bould doesn't work Saturdays! In fact, looking at that last topic I wonder if making Steve Bould "global" defensive coach excludes his salary from these new rules, as its not 100% first team focussed? --Maybe this was a planned tactic afterall?

You pick out ONE sell high, replace low that worked, the Sinton v Sinclair. Who did he replace Peacock with? Or everyone else that he flogged left, right and centre. We had a quality squad that he ripped apart and we definitely had a chance of a trophy. Maybe not the league, but the FA or League Cup surely. Yes, yes, he kept us afloat, but.....and the Thompson family were hardly paupers, c. £400m net worth which at the time was more than enough for a decent tilt at trophies. He's certainly been able to invest quite a lot in Cheveley Park Stud, loads of racehorses ever since. THOMPSON OUT |
Wlison -> Brevitt or are the timelines out? I always remember us selling one of our top players every season. But Les was the hill that Gerry was going to die on. It turned out to be true that if we sold the player the whole team was built around everything fell apart. Hopefully the lesson will be remembered? We had a glimpse this season of what happens when a direct counter attacking team loses its fast outlet to a horrible (non) contact injury --Sorry you can't always see your favourite players on a Saturday, are you ready for the science bit?

His manner of explanation very resemblant of that funny bespectacled little twerp currently residing in Downing Street. I think he should brief Paul Morrissey and all he wants to divulge and say to him how he wants it communicated and then trust him and others way more versed in fans chat than he could ever be. I think Christians ideas would then be way more respected by the fanbase as there are many decent ideas, but Nourry's communication skills to the common man are seriously flawed but communicated in a more fan friendly way, i seriously believe the fans would start to develop a much more favourable view of the men in charge currently. Would he do this - I doubt it - and therein lies the issue !!! [Post edited 19 May 1:42]
