Watching old episodes of Minder tonight while drinking souther comfort ( great great film) and going over life in the xtc household.

Great series that you can’t watch uncut now. It’s a good thing in its own way but I do miss the days of free speech and saying things you regret without being killed. Although, your past is still no excuse for you now. Even though it was the way of the world then. You past sins are your present sins. You are a sinner . Kill sinners.

Apart from those who kill sinners because, those who live NOW, are beyond reproachment, they are pure. They have no past. Yet.

Arthur Daley was (is) my Dad's hero.

It'd be very easy to make the case the quality of programmes (or music) watched is devolving, like so many facets of contemporary life. Bloody super heroes...aw God please no.

I still think pound for pound, ‘Porridge‘ remains the very best. It was so well written that its timeless and when you watch it now, you don’t cringe.

The car lot in minder used to be in churchfield road Acton.

And in the road opposite ( can’t remember it’s name) was a black door and that was filmed as the door to the Winchester club. I’m talking back in the very early 90s.

Great programme

During lock down, I decided to re-watch all of the pink panther films including a shot in the dark. Although the pink panther films are classic, a shot in the dark is possibly one of the funniest films made.

The car lot In the opening credits was filmed in Blythe Road in Hammersmith and has been converted into a house although they may have used other venues in the series.

There's a great website with a lot on Minder including the many locations used throughout the series with then and now shots in some cases.

I notice many programmes still shown now have warnings for "outdated views and language" these days.

IN many ways it's ridiculous worrying about something written/made often years and years ago when times and views etc were very different.

Apparently even Friends has been caught up in it, somewhat surprisingly.

These days you get Nish Kumar or the Last Leg. I’m guessing that’s why the young watch Netflix and largely shun terrestrial TV.

I love minder. It’s like a holiday in my childhood. All filmed in places I was at the time I was a kid. Fantastic character development and dialogue. Watched it all recently while looking after my newborn.

Yes, it's utterly ridiculous to warn of “outdated views” in a programme and then later show a modern programme that's replete with grisly violence, drug dealing, various perversions, swearing and all sorts.
Modern TV is garbage and getting worse...both terrestial and standard TV.
The last things I enjoyed on TV were Smiley's People and The Monocled Mutineer.

The launderette shown in one of the first episodes was in Roehampton, and my mum worked there for a short while just after it was filmed.I don’t remember being close enough to appear on the tv though in the crowd scenes they showed.
It certainly was a great show in the early years, but it went a bit stale towards the end.

Another annoying thing is apologising for bad language when live football is on. What shrinking violet watches live football, especially now with no crowds, and does not expect to hear occasional bad language

They are the idiots who put microphones all around the pitch and then have to apologise when they actually work.

Anyone watching Mortimer and whitehouse - gone fishing?

I’ve never had the slightest interest in fishing but find it the best programme on tv at the moment.

Excellent programme.

Paul Whitehouse on his lack of interest in art... ‘I’ve never known how long to look at a painting before I can move on’. Superb.

It's odd but I guess they have to cover themselves in case some Mary Whitehouse type is passing the TV while it's on and decides to complain. I always doubt that they're sincere in their apologies for the reason you outline.

I think that's why a lot of this stuff happens, fear of complaints that may or may not materialise. A warning or apology isn't too invasive but when they start changing the shows it gets into complicated territory. I'd be interested to know what kind of things they're removing tbh, I was born after a lot of these things were aired so I kind of think "how bad can it be?".

Whenever i watch old Minder re-runs i cant help thinking that they were a big influence for Guy Ritchie's early films.
