Perch 10:26 - Aug 15 with 8628 viewslave16

Talks have begun regarding a potential return to Wigan Athletic for Queens Park Rangers defender James Perch (above, left), the Sun reports (Monday edition, page 49).

I would probably keep him for cover...

would leave us very short at right back if he goes

well he's never exactly looked thrilled to be here and I bet he isn't cheap wages wise but we're slicing the defence very thin if he goes.

Bit awkward. Would have snapped their hand off before we let Furlong leave (seems odd we couldn't at least have waited a couple of weeks), although in fairness Onouha has played 50 games in a row now and we still have Osman Kakay.

I suppose we're just about better off keeping him but the end of the day Perch is pretty rubbish wherever he plays. The wonders of the utility man.

As mentioned a few times, they've also got Mawson and the big lad at Wycombe lined up so may free up wages and transfer fee for them. Although they're both centre backs.

Plus the Alfie Mawson rumour keeps cropping up, perhaps JFH has a plan to use him as a utilty player

I was one of those who said from the off he was a poor signing , never rated him at Newcastle , Forrest or Wigan, a nothing player really and a waste of money
good business if we do get rid and maybe we can then sign a proper right back

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Yeah the cover Perch ostensibly provides is on the flanks.

I can't see Mawson as an option. We have Lynch to cover/replace Caulker (also at left back possibly?) and so if we're not offering a first choice role to Mawson then there is no point whatsoever in him leaving Barnsley no matter how homesick he may or may not be.

Pierre being much rawer, moving up a couple levels for backup / development makes perfect sense on the other hand.

Ned's clearly not for shifting so maybe time to change the record.

Had an awful start to last season, but second half was very useful and would be a reliable utility player in what is a thin squad at the mo. Works hard, thought some criticism of him was unfair.
would think that definitely means he has a replacement lined up.

Bare bones.

He had a good run of games at left back (not even what he was signed for having never played there previously) but we've very much upgraded there now. Perch may be reliable in his mediocrity but I think we'll all be better off giving Kpekawa Kakay etc a spin instead.

so you don't think we need a specialist right back then ?

I don't mind Ned and in the opening games he looks good, but if we sell caulker or if we need cover at CB we are left without cover in the right back area , also what happens if Ned loses form or gets injured ? its a long old season this championship
Perch never was or never will be a fullback so if we get rid it makes sense to get a proper one in

Seems as if he can play both at right and left back positions, so a useful player to have.

Although our fans have never really taken to him, so if we can get some of the money back we paid for him, why not, providing we can sign a replacement.

Hopefully we'll get a few quid back on the reported £750,000-£1,000,00 we paid for him 12 months ago. I wont be racked with lament and grief Playing Blacks 'wonderful life' on continuous rotation if he leaves.

Iike to see us go for tavernier from Rangers, or insanely, get Furlong back from his loan.

Furlong looked good against Swindon. If Perch goes then Furlong is a good replacement,if we can get him back off loan..

Perch looked poor against Swindon.
So, he is not even any good at LB any more where we have 3 players already.

Whereas for RB, Furlong looked like the 1st team player for me. I am against his loan move to Swindon. As I believe he is already ready for 1st team action. Swindon chucked everything at him and he soaked it up despite having no protection from our midfield. Especially in the 2nd half when Nasser never ran back.

I suspect that a bid for Caulker and possibly even Ned could come in. With Lynch suffering from his second injury already this term, we may need to get some more CB's in, just to cover if Caulker and/or Ned depart.

I would sell Perch and get another RB in. This gives us the coverage we need at that problem position. Then JFH has finally done what no manager could manage in a long time and solved our fullback problem on both flanks.

With the Goalkeepers and Defence sorted, we can finally build the team ahead of them.

We also desperately need a Centre Forward. If BFG gets injured we shall be in trouble. We need a replacement in that position and then we shall be rock solid with a chance at 6th spot.

Glad to see their scouts are paying attention. Mainly to what our scouts are doing.

Pretty sure he was born in Hillingdon, and has his heart set on a move back down South.

This. It's not just RB and LB he can cover, he can play CB and DM too, so he's definitely a useful player to have in your squad, regardless of whether he is good enough for the 1st team (and I think he improved a lot 2nd half of last season). That being said if it frees up some cash for 1 or 2 others, than maybe it's worthwhile. It would be nice though with such a thin squad to not have to constantly sell to buy!
