You did mention the thread shouldn't be derailed with Irish pronunciation so the answer must be aitch!

I suggest in honour of our former midfielder we all start saying "scowen" just to be consistent

Def Plarstow.

I am aghast at the number of (presumably) Londoners who can't pronounce Marylebone properly!

Here's another one. What's the correct pronunciation of Chelsea?

Both Native American names, the ‘saw’ is the correct pronunciation. The spelling was a cock up in the 1800’s. Kansa are a tribe in that part of the country.

Thanks, Boston, I've always wondered why.

I've found that elsewhere in Ireland. Certainly includes the Ulster parts of the Republic e.g. Donegal but I'm sure I've heard it in Dublin.

The Irish pronunciation I always notice is "any" pronounced Annie. My sister-in-law has that one, and she was born and brought up in Perivale (Irish parents)

Yep I think we all say fil-em. And one is wan. In Kildare they pronounce their 'O's' as 'U's' so lorry is lurry and donkey is dunkey

At work we say 'Hole saw' in the manner of Oliver Reed in 'Oliver'.

We need an 'Ole saw'

Beer and Beef has made us what we are - The Prince Regent

Not posh in South Sligo either Brian, definitely a scone. Anyone who says sconn, I say to them, 'What do you call that large pebble on the ground - a stonn?'
Definitely not posh enough for a 'Porsh', but love the way we pronounce that French car; Pew-jo

Where in South Sligo Myke ?- we go to Lough Gara neck of the woods a lot a lot (sadly not at the moment).

On topic I can generally tell the difference between a west and south London accent but I cannot describe how. Anyone else get that?

I thought everyone knew that scone is pronounced "scone", and not "scone"?

Okay, I'll make this easy.

Step 1) Start off with pronouncing the word "cone", as in traffic cone or ice cream cone. Remember how you pronounce it.

Step 2). Put an S in front of it, then pronounce the "cone" element of the newly expanded word in the same manner as Step 1.

QED

It wasn't that hard to get it right.
