We have a defence coach? Bloody Nora, who'd have thought it....

| That Swindon Town match report again – Report on 17:54 - Nov 30 with 3950 views | Noelmc | Spot on Clive once again. The paragraph that summed it up for me was, ‘ Not like we’re short of options either. Steve Cook sent back out into battle while Liam Morrison doesn’t even make the bench. Rayan Kolli, once again, not selected for the matchday squad against an opponent he terrorised last season. Much like Ipswich at home, I felt like the manager got this all very badly wrong’. For me, Julien has a much stronger squad than last year but I’m yet to be convinced he is doing a better job than Marti. [Post edited 30 Nov 17:56]

Right from the management to the players to the supporters, 16th place has become the holy grail. Soon as we get above it we take a breather. Been going on for years. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Changes should have been made and the idea that Frey is a better shout than a left out Kolli is just laughable at the moment. I liked Frey’s contribution last season but he’s so off the pace now . Kolli must be utterly baffled at his treatment .

Well I did think it strange to rest him midweek (sensible) then not use him at all here, but on the league table of weird yesterday that was lower mid table.

We knew what was coming and they served up the slop accordingly. Just watching Chelscum v Arseholes, yellow cards galore, two teams going at it hammer and tongue. Watching Madsen and Varane stroll around yesterday without a care in the world just boils my piss. Don’t know how much more I can take.

The Samrat was always a good bet on Sundays when they had the fixed price menu. You must be banking on a bumper edition of the ‘file and The Roadshow otherwise it’ll soon be two bottles !

Or at least, not to use him as one of the five subs, maybe? It's not as if there wasn't a tactical argument for doing so - Cook wasn't playing well, Mbengue at right-back meant we lacked his pace at centre-back so had to play deep and had no-one to bring the ball out. JCS coming in at HT or soon after solves both of those. Then again, maybe he trained poorly this week and/or wasn't fit enough.

For me the weirdest part was starting him last week. That is not normal behavior on how to ease a player back after a long term injury. Usually they come off the bench for the last 20 when the pace has slowed. And he was responsible for both goals which went largely under the radar because we won. I can only imagine JS started him and thought 'well if he comes off after 11 minutes we have our full quota of subs to replace him with'. Whereas if he was the fifth sub with 20 to go and lasted 11 minutes we would have been in big trouble

Agree mate. As I said in the report not the first time this season I’ve found our strength and conditioning a bit weird and wonderful.

I would like to see Varane and Madsen out of the club in Jan for any money we can get for them - and surely to G-d we could buy a half-decent Champ-ready 8 with the proceeds. We can't, and won't, progress with those two shysters ambling round the midfield like they do. The team needs improving from front to back, but it would be a start at least. I wanted to make eight subs at half time & enquired as to whether you can make more than one concussion sub! I've not looked (and won't) at any replay, but I'm sure we should have had a free kick from the corner for the second goal. Would that have changed the outcome? NO! We would have found another way to invite Norwich to score. Did any of our players ask for a free kick? It looked to me as if they just shrugged & gave up. There was no leadership on or off the pitch. The best part of the day was only paying £4.40 for a pint of bitter (abv 4.2%) in the Coach & Horses. And a chat with a Norwich supporter in that establishment!

How can they be so gassed all the time. Are we the only club who continually go on about 3 game weeks? Just get on with it boys. [Post edited 1 Dec 2:50]

Great word ‘weird’ in this circumstance. I’m glad that it isn’t just me - so much utter nonsense went on it beggars belief. Surely the old pros in the team must be chattering about the weird leadership. I won’t ramble on again about my serious misgivings about JS, but instead I have a serious question; do we think that a football club has a similar hierarchical structure to a normal business? When someone reports to the CEO, there surely must be some kind of debrief early this week with the CEO asking what the hell all that was about? Or does he just do what he wants until he is sacked? The net effect for me is that I’m deeply frustrated and just feeling distanced from ‘The Project’. I’m finding it uncharacteristically hard to feel passionate support for this lot at the moment. Football is increasingly technical and tactical, but I’m pretty certain that this layman could have done a better job managing that squad yesterday.

Stay somewhere local. I realise that ice baths might be important but surely nothing is more important than sleep, sleep when your body clock expects it.

There's enough ammunition without adding half true comments. Several of the players have been travelling around for their countries. Burrell, Hayden, Saito, Varane, Kolli, Kone, Dunne, Smyth, N-D. Clive thanks, agree with every word. A tired, lethargic effort. Manager must be at fault for selection and lack of subs midweek. We picked up three injuries too. Lack of rotation probably didn't help there either.
