Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 18:17 - May 7 by Beckenhamhoop

Not rumours but plenty of analyses and targets to peruse over in the close season.

It's rare that almost everyone agrees what a club needs to move to the next level, yet I don't think anyone would argue against this piece.
GK, FBs and CMs.

Will be an interesting summer. Get it right, with improved availability, and we can push up the table. 🤞

Got as far as £5m for Varane and put my back out laughing

Let's hope Ben Williams and the team can get you fit again in time for the pre-season "where will we finish?" thread.

A fabulous piece of analysis, thanks for sharing .

Something that really brings home to me is the desperate need to sign a ball winning midfielder. We only have Field and he might be sold anyway.

It's not a glamorous role and it's importance is often overlooked but *every* side needs one in the starting eleven, plus one as back-up.

The role is even more critical if your coach is largely wedded to a 442 formation.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

So goalkeepers we are looking at are:

1. Sam Tickle from Wigan (very keen on apparently)

2. Jari de Busser from Go Ahead Eagles

3. Beau Reus from Beveren

4. Pierre Charles from Sheff Wed

5. Filip Marschall from Stevenage

6. Simon Ngapandouetnbu from Montpellier

7. Elias Olafsson from FC Midtylland

Can’t say I know too much about any of them, but we need a proper keeper for next season!

And other players we are looking at:

1. Left back: Jack Currie (Oxford United), Ismael Boura (Troyes) and Ishe Samuels-Smith (Chelsea, loan)

2. Defensive midfielder: Etienne Camara (Sporting Charleroi) and Gibson Yah (FC Volendam)

3. Box-to-box midfielder: Archie Collins (Peterborough) and Enzo Leopold (Hannover 96)

4. Right back: Zak Swanson (Portsmouth) and Hampus Skoglund (Hammarby)

That analysis by Sam is excellent. A enjoyable read, as well.

One can only wish the club has someone as good as that, eh?

Edit: Obvious question but is Jack Currie related to Tony/Darren? Darren was an R, I seem to recall.

I need a SAGA. What’s the SAGA? It’s ….. Queen’s Park Rangers.

It's a ball winner, but one that can play and pass forward as well. Field, Varane and Hayden can't do it hence none of them will be with us next season.

Tony was an R, 1979-82, not Darren (who is Tony's nephew).

Great theory piece that.

Although a mistake in that Varane is not in the initial first squad diagram, and also we shall be lucky to get £2m from Varane now. £5m is what we wanted at the start of the season, now we know it's gonna be way less.

From seeing what's available there, I would sell him for £1m and then use £250K each (so £500K) of that as a signing-on bonus for two of these free transfers. As we spent £500K bringing him in, that's a zero-sum game (£500K (paid) + £500K (sign-on bonus) = £1m). Wages of these two would be paid by those we have let go. This is how it should be done, and we could attempt to resolve the midfield position in one go.

We should sell Lloyd for £500K to say someone like Lincoln (they would pay it as that's a cheap deal for them). Once again, use that as a signing-on bonus for freebie left-backs.

Two clever deals like that could bring in 4 new players!
Leaving us room to bring just GK and job done.

Let's see if all of this happens or it's mere theory, pawn!

Issue is, as I understand it, that we need to raise some money from sales to recoup money already spent. It's not just "sell some players and then spend the lot." Hence the pressure to get a big money sale this summer. Agree £5m always a little fanciful for a player incapable of taking a ball on the turn or passing forwards, but if not him then it will probably need to be someone.

Lincoln to pay £500k for a player they used for 10 minutes per game.
Can I have some of what you're on.

Indeed. Half that fee would be a good deal for us.

Just watched the highlights of the Borehamwood v Rochdale play-offs. Borehamwood were unlucky but the stand out player was Abdul Abdulmalik. Set up one and scored the other for Borehamwood. Left sided midfielder, 23, was let go by Millwall but his style of play os very similar to Chair's and he's got Burrell style pace. Certainly one to look at and apparently Millwall regret letting him go. I seem to recall we picked up another Millwall reject and he did quite well for us!

Never knowingly right.

If there's anyone we should sign it's the Lincoln City fitness coach. They've had the same 11 players playing every week all season and they have walked the division.

Sam Tickle is a decent enough shot-stopper, well-liked here and has a terrific attitude, but, and I say this with love, the lad's distribution, particularly kicking, is Rob Green standard. If that.

To be fair he's 7 foot 5.... Sorry, read that wrong. I mean 5 foot 7 so you may be right. But a very gifted player. And he appears to have two working hamstrings... for now.

Never knowingly right.

Have you seen the price of unproven Champ forwards?

Coburn was unproven in the Champ but a good prospect, £5m to Boro, Millwall paid. It came off, but it was a gamble. £5m is a gamble these days.

Charlton paid £3.5m for Kelman, and he scored 7, helping them stay up. Well thats the story that will be given.

Armstrong, we sold for £1m to Brizzle. They still play him.

Once clubs like Lincoln see the market for forwards and after spending a major wedge on a forward and another player, they won't have much left, and it will be a bargain basement type transfer of around that price.
