Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 10:15 - Apr 2 by terryb

One of our group has sent a message today saying that there are rumours that we are signing Dylan Tait from Falkirk. He is apparently out of contract at the end of the season & is a 25 year old central midfielder.

Do any of our Scottish correspondents (or anyone else) know anything about this & can update us about his ability etc?

A quick look at his playing stats doesn't reveal anything in particular that should make us want to sign him and he's on the small side for a CM. That he'd be on a free seems to be the only plus point.

Am thinking recruitment wise, we need a first choice goalkeeper, both full backs and possibly a new centre mid.

If there could be only two transfers in, then goalkeeper and left back the most immediate of needs.

Not really. Our CMs are Hayden 6' 1", Morgan 6' 1", Madsen 6' 4" and Varane 6' 2".

This was last summer really but QPR told by tribunal to pay Reading for Mbengue. He'll cost just short of £350k.

Seems like we came out fairly well here, since we're paying less than we offered to pay them originally.

Also Mbengue might be bonkers but £350k feels like a very good price...

You have to say for a reasonably young player who despite his crazy antics at times, can be a massive threat, and especially with the pace he has too, and have seen him catch up with attackers who have seemed uncatchable in a few plays.

A relatively young player, who has quite a few rough edges but with careful coaching ie sometimes with such a player, you dont want to completely coach out the madness within and an incredibly enthusiastic of personalities, which can motivate amd amuse likewise with fans and team mates alike.

We havent had a player like him for many a year and for me there is more to like than otherwise.

£350k for Mbengue - for me, that is decent .....

I know for some on here, Nourry amd his team can do no right, but you have to say there have definitely been more successes than failures, in players brought in. We seem to mess up more when we spend £3 million or more on players, and several have failed so far or we have moved on, or attempted to.

We certainly have a few that have already proved their worth completely, coming in for nominal transfer fees.

It's going to be an interesting summer. The team doesn't need that much doing to it to be a bit of dark horse next season, but what does need doing REALLY needs doing.

Our team? I'm not at the games and don't see as much as a lot of you do, but I'm not sure there's a single player in our squad, apart from perhaps Madsen that I'd say "yeah they'd be a starter for most top 6 teams"

Appreciate that the gap between say 6th and 20th is incredibly narrow though so I guess from that perspective a couple of big moves might be all the difference it takes to make a run

Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 21:34 - Apr 2 with 4047 viewsderbyhoop

So what would you do about Walsh? And Hamer, Cooper or Salamon?
Giventhe various rumours, there's a fair chance that a keeper is on the radar.
Mbengue is surely 1st choice RB. Is Adamson good enough as his back up?
Or could you move Dunne or Edwards to RB and pick somebody else at CB?
At LB, if RND's loan isn't made permanent, we still have Larkeche and Esquerdinha. Esq has not convinced defensively, but he is only just 20.

In CM, who do you replace - Madsen, Varane, Hayden, Morgan, Chair?

If we are to compete for the top 6, then any player can be replaced. But it has to be by an incomer who is much better.

there's the nonsense of 7th and 8th being playoff places to consider... 8th especially usually just ends up being whoever of the constipated middle finished the season best.

And Sam Field is 6’3”.

We should be getting him back into the first team. He’s better than Hayden. Morgan should be getting games on rotation / as back up. Varane should be sold.

Keeper (starter)
Right back (back up)
Left back (starter)
Ball playing midfielder (back up if Madsen not sold, starter if he is)

That’s it. Unless we sell a forward. We have enough wingers.

Outside of the above, focus on overhauling the Performance function, removing Williams, and getting a proper pre-season into the squad so they are fit and raring to go from the off.

Play offs should be the target next season.

We won’t buy a keeper, we have three of our own. Nandi and Hamer will move on. Walsh will start as first choice with Cooper as back up. Both are now getting Championship experience. That position may rotate depending on form. We do need to buy a LB and a back-up RB. If Field gets sold, we need a quality CDM. If Madsen gets sold we need a quality ball-playing midfielder. If we retain both, Varane should be sold. Well stocked with forwards/wingers. Bennie needs to go out on loan

If RND's loan could be extended for a season it would ideal. We know he can start two games a month. Split the other two matches between Larkeche and Esquerdinha to see who makes the most of the opportunity.

I think we need to sell for some decent money this summer. Varane if the rumours are correct may attract decent offers, and unlike our other players who could attract good money, Varane need not be a big loss to our team especially if we keep Field. I'd be playing Varane as much as he's able to play these last 7 games to put him in the shop window as well as that he can do a decent job for us. If we can make RND permanent I don't see we need to do too much else. I'd like Morgan to get out on loan to a League Club next season.

Someone needs to be sold this summer, and with Varane having a poor season, Madsen injured and none of the wingers pulling up trees you'd imagine that leaves Sam Field as the viable option to be sold.
Until sales are made we are looking at free transfers and development prospects.

Of course someone like West Ham could panic and offer us £7m for Kone

But as others have said, Keeper, RB, LB, CM are perhaps all that's needed leaving a squad of

GK, Walsh, Cooper
Mbengue, Adamson, RB, Dunne, Edwards, JCS, Morrison, Smith, Esq, Larkeche, LB
Madsen, Morgan, Varane, Hayden, CM
Vale, Poku, Dembele, Chair, Saito, Smyth
Kone, Burrell, Obikwa, Kolli

Maybe you can get some money for Morrison as well seeing as the CB position is well stocked

Definitely need the following in the summer.

1. Keeper. Has to be the main priority.
2. Left back. Can’t see us signing RND and the other 2 are not good enough.
3. Midfielders x2. Creative and ball playing ones.
4. Attacking players in that front 3 style x2.

Sorry Hammersmith, you're going to have to get real.
Unless we sell somebody for big money, there is NO chance of doing that business.

I really don't believe they are going to spend money on a new keeper. The saves hit-reel that accompanied Walsh's birthday social media post from the club hints strongly at that.

He's 24, he's a development project a long time in the making. It may be a duke out between him and Cooper, but they will give Walsh at least another season. Other keepers (including Cooper) will probably go.

They'll bring in a left back, a midfielder or two, maybe another defender I imagine.

Everything else will be replacements for those who go: Cook, possibly Morrison, Varane, maybe some loans out like Kolli and Morgan who will not get enough games in a fit squad. Yes, it'll be a year late and they've proven their level is this one, but they both need a run of 15 odd games as first choices at L1 level to put the pressure on, build strength. With Burrell, Chair, Madsen back they will not get that momentum.

Above all, we have to sell some darlings and suck it up to fill the gaps.

GOALKEEPERS

Agree we are likely to get a new goalkeeper in.

I personally think we are likely to move on Walsh and Nardi and hopefully get some money for both. Hamer is not ours anyhow.

I expect Cooper to come back and probably be our number two goalkeeper, but feel the club will allow him also to state his case to be a regular choice and up his transfer value.

DEFENDERS

Personally hope RND is signed or another years loan, otherwise will attempt to sign a first choice left back

Cook to be released or for me, given the job, Steve Bould is apparently doing. Obviously, Cook would be on lot less money for this, but feel the guy is someone the younger players could relate to more.

We may try to sell Morrison for a few shillings.

MIDFIELDERS

Midfield can see Varane and Field being sold. Need a replacement though.

ATTACKERS

Attacking mids can see Saito being moved on and i feel Dembele would also, but for his injury. Saito could be sold to the far east and Dembele also feel club could make some money on also.

Therefore,

INS

New Goalkeeper, Cooper
RND or New LB ,
New CM
New AM

OUTS

Walsh, Nardi, Hamer
Morrison, Cook
Varane, Field
Saito, Dembele??

I watched McCraken against Celtic last weekend. Looked decent enough. Has made the most saves in their league this season according to the commentator.
