| Saints charged with spying 09:48 - May 9 with 103637 views | KensalT | Southampton haven't yet denied these allegations! For anyone who doesn't know Boro caught someone with some very sophisticated cameras and recording equipment spying on one of their training sessions. Apparently Boro are looking into the possibility that Saints have done this to other teams this season. Nightmare timing for the EFL. I can't see any way for them to fudge this | | | | |

Obikwu is our spy... He has been out on missions... Just not very effective

Have to wait and see what the evidence is. But when you look at their result over the second half of the season, including their FA Cup run where they went toe-to-toe with the two best clubs in the country....... Where were those performances in their last two PL seasons?

That's not the point. The Canada women's team got done for flying a drone over their opponents training session. Does the fact that there wasn't a roof there make it OK? Clubs are allowed to watch their opponents play and scout them in the usual fashion. What they are not allowed to do is watch them within 72 hours of playing them. Maybe Boro could have done more. But then maybe all clubs could do more. Maybe ban fans from attending open days, build higher walls, etc. That would ensure secrecy, but I don't think it would be good for the game. NDM and co absolutely buried them in paper to drag it all the way into the last week and put their back up against the wall. The Sun getting a leak that we were guilty and would lose 15 points, which almost certainly came from Palios, left them wide open to a legal challenge which would have kyboshed the play offs. And then David Pleat was employed as the impartial expert on the panel and in his testimony basically said that buying and selling players makes absolutely no material difference at all, which was incredibly helpful but to this day an amazing thing to say. We absolutely got away with that. We played a player we should not have been able to sign for a full season, and he was fcking brilliant. |
It wasn't a big deal considering Chelsea signed half their players to win them the lot over a few decades using illegal payments and it turned out to be no worries lads | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Well I always said that about the idea Leicester won the Premier League title with Wes Morgan and Robert Huth at centre back because Claudio Ranieri used to ring an imaginary bell. In cycling you there wouldn't even be a doubt what that was about.

Cycling is (I hope) a very different world. A Clean Break by Christophe Bassons is a book I would highly recommend on that subject https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clean

Surprised they were there in the first place, Hull have put a statement out saying 'don't call us we'll call you'.

That was the same last year. People trying to book trains from Sheffield and Sunderland they didn't tell them the kick off time until May 15 - nine days before.
| Saints charged with spying on 15:19 - May 14 with 1612 views | Snipper | What was it Swindon got done for after winning their playoff vs Sunderland back in 1990? They were demoted two divisions, but reduced to one division on appeal. | | | |
| Saints charged with spying on 15:19 - May 14 with 1613 views | Harbour | I think they should make them replay the first leg at boro but the 2nd leg score stands so boro have a chance to make up the 2-1 deficit. | | | |

Good shout - but time from revised game to Final/ticketing/logistics etc makes this impossible, I'd have thought. The only clean, clear and correct thing to do (imho) is to kick Soton out of the play-offs first thing tomorrow (no appeal allowed) and confirm a Hull/Boro play-off final and everything carries on as before. Any fine on Soton would be meaningless as a punishment if the Saints go up. Kicking them out is a big sanction but the right one - its sends a strong clear message to everyone else that this will not be tolerated. I guarantee that no one would ever spy again.

The documentary on the playoffs is well worth a watch on Sky, a couple of minutes on us but some great games in there

The only issue I have with that though, is if Southampton still end up winning - then they've prospered from cheating.... and what if it isn't the only occasion?
