You’d think so but if he’s got a year left on his contract here and we want to sell him I could imagine his agent would be telling QPR to settle up.
Looking at this in reverse, didn’t Cannon come here of his own volition and his old club sued for breaking his contract?
Could have this wrong, but we do seem to be getting more money than you’d usually expect from a few sales in recent years so it may well be that £1.5m could include cover for us to settle Fields remains of his contract. Suddenly that £1.5m is essentially only half of that in profit.

Field started the season very badly and Stephan decided he had better options. Wanted to play regularly so the Norwich loan made sense although he wasn’t a regular for them either. Good luck to him: he’s been a decent player for us.

I agree with your every word there, except for the "early September" bit.
Players take a while to get settled and by September, we will be quite a way into the season, plus defensive midfield is a key position and one in which we were already very light.
We need a replacement on board before the season starts. We're simply not strong enough to have players bought as starters who are bedding in after the first league games. |  |

What do you mean "shouldn't need £1.5m"? After the huge financial stresses the club has faced under FFP of course QPR "need" £1.5m (and rising) for a player who isn't going to get many minutes.
We are being linked with some midfield beast from Cadiz. No idea if he will sign, no idea if he will prove good enough if he does. But it would be nice if fans judged the strength of the squad by the team we field first game of the season, not in mid June. I thought as a fanbase we all got the fact that all our players are available for the right price. And that's not a bad price for a bench warmer, decent lad though he is. | | | |
