transfer embargos... 10:30 - Apr 6 with 7388 viewsPhildo

10 clubs in the championship embargoed due to filing accounts late. For some of these it will be administrative as the government allowed late filing but EFL rules did not but for others it means trouble ahead. The fact the EFL imposed this in a pandemic suggests they mean business:

Apparently Huddersfield was just administrative and they are now no longer subject to the embargo.

EFL coming across as idiots here imo if the Government have told companies they can file accounts later

Yeh it's a bit of a odd story this. Looks like financial collapse is imminent at multiple clubs, which it might well be, and it's certainly a big thing that nearly half the division was quietly under a transfer embargo by the end of the last window (very wrong IMO that they're allowed to impose embargoes on clubs without announcing them) but actually this is because the government gave three months leeway on filing accounts but the EFL, rather ridiculously, didn't. Still, good to know we're still all up to date etc.

They’d be better off informing us about WEATHER ARMAGEDDON.

How many Championship teams will be in business for next season given the critical nature of some of the finances at clubs?
Will be interesting to see how this impacts the league next season.

It's a bit worrying. While there are some teams we love to hate, obviously, we need to have some opposition and I don't want to see other clubs go to the wall.

"EFL coming across as idiots"

What a surprise.

A National Tragedy what is happening to the administration of our game - every single level of the FA appears to be full of incompetent pedants with very few decisions being made for the good of the game.
Their interest is absolutely the financial side, but only making the big clubs bigger and richer.

Disgrace of an organisation.

Anyway, Birmingham managed to sign a player when on an embargo with no penalty even in the aftermath of their pointless (sic) points deduction, so none of the rules count unless you have a Q in your name...

Can we go out yet?

If the football league suddenly decide that this and FFP are no longer going to be punished then we must have a good case to sue for our ludicrously over the top punishment.

Their accounts are in, we were chatting about them a week or so back. This is purely about timing of account filing, not how much sht they're in.

was it over the top? We got a fine several years after the event and a transfer embargo for one window. The fine was only so big because we spent so much that season, if they had stuck with the original rules the fine would have been more than double what we ended up with.

This is more interesting for the depressing dogs breakfast of crap journalism and the total disinclination towards reading it properly.

Agree but the point is should any other team spend as much as us the rules have been changed the punishment would be nowhere as draconian. So even the FL by changing the rules admitted the original punishment specified in the rules was over the top. That did not make them consider our punishment which is why a lot of supporters think it was over the top.

Whether we like ‘em or not, it’s only fair that the other clubs in the division play their away fixture at the Den.

Lets be honest here we are all pretty biased where this is concerned, When other clubs get points deductions we think it should be more, when they are fined we think it should be more but when we were fined we think it should be a lot less.

We cheated as did Leicester but they made a better fist of the prem than us so never really had to worry about any punishment

Yes, but doesn't it suit the law and evolutionary scholars that all those types are kept in the one place?

Whatever you say and however reasonable it might be, some people just enjoy the victim narrative.

Whilst it's all very serious, the hilarious thing about that article is that the Mail refer to "Wayne Rooney's Derby".
