Dead balls...anyone think we're not missing Siggy? on 19:38 - Oct 2 by ploppy
Yes, but when you pay £45m for someone, you'd expect them to make an instant impact. How much was Bony? Siggy's played 7 games BTW (I think).
And when your club gets £57m for two players you expect the club to spend the money on replacing with players to at least give you a chance to replace what has been sold.
Our club has done “good business”, made a big profit and bought poorly. The club is sleepwalking its way to relegation & some supporters think that it’s ok because free flowing football (without goals or shots at goal) is around the corner.
The fact that Sigurdsson is failing at Everton is of no consolation for the ineptitude that OUR club is showing in abundance at all levels

Re £57m - well, yes you'd hope to buy the qualities you need to play the style of football you'd like to play.
Agree that we need to move on re Siggy. Trouble is, everyone's bemoaning the fact that we sold him (well, not everyone) but if we hadn't and he was having the kind of season for us that he's having for Everton, people would be saying we should have sold him when we had the chance. Past performance is no guarantee ... etc.

All that says is he's good with a non moving ball and runs around a lot. But we all know that.
The Everton fans have noticed this too. Someone mentioned he'd run the furthest against Burnley and someone replied, yeah ran away from the ball.
What we also know is he's extremely basic from open play, never beats a man, points a lot, flails his arms even more and has become the biggest con in football for that price.
As soon as he had the chance he was out of here, yet grown men pine for him like soppy little girls.
It's truly embarrassing.
The stats indicate he was a player who scored lots of goals, created plenty for the team and has a very high work rate...what the stats don't say is how many assists he assisted with also! Carrols championship quality I'm afraid some people really are blinkered and after watching Sanches against west ham think he should take set pieces going forward!
Wonder what Bonys answer to the OP question would be!

But yet Wilf has been brought back purely on the strength of long past performance!
It doesn't scream out at me everytime I've seen us play this season that we're missing him to be honest. He wasnt really a player who could make things happen single handedly and although he did assist quite well he hardly made us tick.Free kicks of course we'll miss him as he often scored given half a chance but we couldnt go on relying on that alone which we were doing.Something had to change and was anyone really surprised he went? I wasnt.
I do wish we'd play with width again though as it looks like the only way we might break a side down.Im actually hoping that Dyer comes back hungry and better than ever because even though his crossing and final ball were too often poor, at least he looked like he wanted to beat his man and do something positive.Forget Routs he's way past his best and just winding down and enjoying his lucrative contract.Dyer on the other hand still might have something to offer us.

This "Siggy is/was only good at free kicks" bbullsshitt is ridiculously stupid.
I've explained why with words many times before. Here's some moving pictures below for those who haven't gotten it yet (on the magical youtube, no less). Many of our best moments in the PL are included, and there's a whole lot of "open play" included.
Gylfi is one of our best players ever, no debate. He now plays for Everton. End of story. Enjoy the videos:

Even though we won today we still need a better dead ball 'specialist'. Corners were poor, and there was no variety on free kicks, doesn't look as if they even practice set pieces.

Enjoy. There's only one fan/clown that doesn't accept Siggy as one of our best players.

Carroll's dead ball delivery today was dreadful. Summed up by those two consecutive corners in the first half both of which failed to beat the first man.
It would no doubt be easier if he had a Llorente type target to aim for though.

Someone will be along to tell you you haven't got the faintest fack what you're taking about.
A thread on Siggy who's hated at Everton after Carroll run the show today.
Bless you. Proper kunts. No facking clue.....
Ran the show? Showing yourself for the idiot you are His corners in first half were terrible......the ball got nowhere near the box and only got about 2ft off the ground. He gave the ball away on numerous occasions BUT did get into. A good postion to set up the first goal BUT ran the shoe I don't think so this shows you are obviously watching different games

Two consecutive bad corners is all i can remember, where his others that bad then?
I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

Shocking weren't they. 2 that failed to beat the first man then 2 that were floated over the top. Followed up by 3 free kicks for almost identical positions out wide and all fecking awful. And what we're he and Ayew doing for that free kicks in Siggy range
The one that was about a yard from this position...

If the question was “Who hits the best dead ball Carroll or Sigurdsson?” and someone answers Carroll they’re either taking the piss or blind because that’s clearly not true.
Now at this moment in time I don’t care one bit because today was about one thing and one thing only and we achieved that.

When he lost confidence with trying to whip a corner in, the rest were floated efforts over the top or straight to the keeper. There was one good one whipped in with pace that Ayew nearly got on the end of. The rest were so easy to defend against.
Anyway, doesn't matter where the goals come from as long as they come.

Gylfi is one of the best dead ball strikers in world football so of course we'll miss him in that sense, as would any side.
Whenever he had a free kick around the box you'd guarantee he'd either score or force a good save. He didn't often miss the target or hit the wall. Can't imagine there's anyone in the squad now who would even come close to scoring a free kick anymore. Ayew had a decent effort yesterday so it may be worth giving him a few chances.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Here we go, trying to educate pork again....
Tom Carroll was our highest passing midfielder with 39 passes, 9 crosses, 2 key passes and 1 through ball.
He made the second highest amount of tackles (behind Naughts), the second highest amount of interceptions (behind Fede) and all this with only Naughts having more touches in the game (64 in total) - a third more than Fer and Ayew and double more than Leon.
That's what I've got, what have you got?
So....... once more, who actually did run the show???

Hahahaha you remembered 2 corners!! Well done. Siggy was good for 5 or 6 shit ones per game.
But anyway, how was his other 3?
