Is this virus going to be the end of capitalism ? 07:43 - Mar 20 with 3332 views | ladyjack | Some speculation out there that this virus could mean the end of the capitalist system, will the pandemic help usher in universal basic income and a more socialist society or will things go even more extreme with only the wealthy been able to afford goods and services or will things just return to how they were before Coronavirus hit ?

Is this virus going to be the end of capitalism ? on 09:00 - Mar 20 with 1716 views | monmouth | "business support" will shovel billions of public money into the hands of the likes of Branson and making the rich richer while the small business that need it will get a pittance. As someone said yesterday it will be the usual refuge of every failure or scandal 'we've learned lessons', meaning none, and back to business as usual. So no, Trampie. As much as I'd like to see a different model evolve, that would essentially need a revolution driven by the have-nots and super rich hanging from lamposts, and we don't do that here, we doff our caps and read the daily mail.

Probably not very well. But that would be more to do with sanctions imposed on them by the US

They did not get their first cases until March 11th, so they cannot be compared to Europe or the USA. But they had the dengue plague which prepared them for pandemics. They have a plan in place and drugs that they use based on previous experiences. They also have a very good Health system combined with Bio-chemical research. However Venezuela were turned from the jewel of South America into a poor country way before the introduction of sanctions, the sanctions were the reaction to what was happening there.

Plenty of fresh produce in most places by the sounds of it. My local Premier store had bogroll and they weren't gouging the prices.

Capitalism didn't create the wealth, it created money so that wealth could more easily be taken by the powerful. Now money is power. The wealth we need in this situation already existed in the raw resources we need to overcome this situation, it has always existed. All money did was give the powerful the means to legally hoard those resources. There are mega rich people who could be doing a lot to help but in reality they have probably pulled up the drawbridges and settled in for the long haul, waiting to see how it all turns out. When the crisis (or if) is over the mega rich will look to see how they can gain from it. Actually, I bet most of them have already started profitting from this. There are other rich people who are doing their bit without worrying about the finances, like Neville and Giggs.

Received an outer of 80 rolls today (£40). Supposed to be super soft but we’ll see. Seems a good price though. Also panic bought a load of curry from the Rose last night. All portioned out and in the freezer. Plenty of Italian coffee and reduced sugar CDM in the house. I’m fine!!!😉

No, capitalism hasn't also helped create and increase poverty, it hasn't taken healthcare away from millions of Americans, made many homeless or ruined environments. This doesn't vindicate capitalism and those drug companies, how much profit have they made on the backs of the misery of millions of sick people. You have an opioid crisis over there which the drug companies helped create. Those drug companies charge our NHS more for basic medicines than they cost in supermarkets.

There's plenty of food but other essential items are in short supply, only because of the selfish hoarders mind you. The shelves are being restocked overnight but peope are queueing in the early hours and clearing the shelves of toilet roll, handwash etc What's even worse, when NHS staff finish shifts and try to get shopping in they struggle because of the panic buying. Thing is, once a shelf is empty it takes a while to restock so people walk down an aisle of empty shelves and keep on going. Small shops have stock too though, NISA, One Stop etc. Our two local small shops are worth a visit just don't take everything you selfish b'stards.
