My comment about war was in response to Catullus saying to invoke a wartime spirit.
I don’t have a problem with a celebration of VE Day. The defeat of the Nazi threat throughout Europe is worth celebrating. As I said, it just seems a distasteful time to party and I think it would have been better to postpone it until next year.
I could do without some of the overtly nationalistic nonsense that comes with it mind you whatever year it is.
It's about the triumph of hope during adversity, about getting through the bad times. Like I said, people want their spirits raised, we may not be fighting a traditional war but it is a war, not guns and bullets but a virus and it's a common enemy for all of humanity.
We'll meet again is a common theme because in WW2 friends and famliles were separated and now during this pandemic friends and families are being separated again.
F*ck me there are some right miserable gits on here.
Celebrate a day that so many fought and worked hard under some awful times, so there would be a" Victory in Europe Day" and take a day off from the tedious political point scoring.
It doesn't take an anniversary for me to remember what the lads did abroad in the war and what everyone else did at home during the adversity, I think about them quite frequently, my nan used to talk about it to me alot and now again I think about those desperate times.

Spot on. It’s so rooted in my family history that it’s wired in me. I wouldn’t need media driven parties. They don’t connect with the next generation who need to be reminded of the sacrifices made either. They just reinforce the idea that it’s something the oldies do.
Are these old people wonderful characters who helped to save us from the tyranny of the jackboot or are they old Daily Mail reading, Brexit voting c@nts who are thankfully all dying off now?
It’s hard to keep up sometimes.

There was a bloke on twitter earlier complaining that someone in his street in Wales had an English St George’s cross. I asked him if they were English.
He replied “I don’t know.”
People just moan for the sake of fuçking moaning.

But as I said there’s no intrinsic difference between 75 and 76.
We didn’t have a bank holiday for the 70th anniversary (we did for the 50th).
There is no intrinsic difference between 73,74,75 and 76 years. There is, however strangely, some kind of significance on celebrations like three quarters of a century and as there will be in 25 years time when it is the centenary.
The remembrance of the end of the first world war in 2018 was another year but a hundred years and hugely significant for people.
So very many people lost their lives during both wars and something like the commemoration of the day we retained our freedom, not bossing people because they haven't paid their council tax or road fund licence, has to be congratulated and recognised. It just happens to be a little bit more so particular anniversaries.

Blood brothers we are. I’ve got Spotify throwing our some cracking tunes as well.
Did very much the same, bit of garden work then just chilled back on the lounger with some Bow, tea on the patio, made some "homemade" "authentic" Turkish kebabs and chilli sauce, they weren't to bad for a first attempt. me and the missus sat outside with the chimera roaring until about 11pm in shorts and vest top, topped it all off with a big glug of spiced rum.
Of course planet rock was blasting in the background all afternoon and night
Superb stuff
The hair and the beard have gone I am now conforming to society, tis a sad day
The b*stards are coming back though
I’ll tell you one thing that’s just the same today as everyday. People don’t stop fuçking moaning. Society is riddled with miserable twáts.
Stop fcking moaning
Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.
Well done one and all who enjoyed themselves responsibly and stuck to their own boundaries with your own household.
I witnessed enough in my little community to my annoyance,a young nurse taking her family over to her parents house, her father has underlying health issues..... A retired copper having a tea party out his front garden with people outside his household clearly breaking the 2mtr rule.
As I say, we'll done to those who paid tribute responsibly and enjoyed themselves....you done it right unlike some ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
