Well if it's legal for refugees to pass through safe countries to claim Asylum in the UK, why are the government trying to stop them from doing something that is legal under UN law. |
A refugee escaping a country to save their life due to war and/or famine is different to an economic migrant who's leaving a country where their life is not in danger but they want to improve their life/prospects.

That doesn’t appear to be correct. From my limited reading on this, the Dublin regulation says thatthe the country responsible for an asylum claim is the country where a claim is first lodged, not the country in which the claimant first lands. Which makes sense when you think about it otherwise no one would ever get to France let alone the UK. So if someone arrives on a dinghy from France, the Dublin regulation says that their fingerprints should be checked against the database to see if a claim has been lodged elsewhere. If it has they can be returned to that country which is responsible for their asylum claim. If not, they’re entitled to claim asylum in the UK.
Also I don’t know if the Dublin regulation will apply in the UK once the transition period is over. |  |
