Yes, you're right Loh, in that Johnson is generally regarded as something of an arch Tory.
Though, like George Orwell, he is sometimes claimed by both the right and left wing, depending on which quotations you choose to haul out.
Johnson could be taken for being fairly liberal on occasion. For example he opposed slavery, and according to Boswell, whilst dining with some "grave Oxford men", proposed a toast to "the next insurrection in the West Indies" - an apt enough example in the context of this thread.

Both this country and the U.S have advanced absolute leaps and bounds when it comes to equality and race issues. The widespread racism, segregation, prejudice and nastiness seen during past decades is miniscule in comparison to then and now. Light years ahead! The majority have grown up.

The white football lads who you say were protesting, iirc were there to stop the statues being smashed up, it should have never got to that stage, the statues should have been protected by the police.
In a way, I'm glad they turned up, it seemed to stop the vandalism, but doing what blm did towards the monuments didn't win them any fans, in-fact it turned many people against them. | |
