In his spare time Andy oven roasts live turkeys, which at this time of year makes him everyone’s friend except people from Turkey. Now hear this, now hear this, he has reffed well over 200 professional games, and only on six occasions has he not booked players. He booked eight in a game between Cardiff and Villa two years ago, no problems there, but he loves a card, it’s frightening. He sends players off far more than any other referee in the professional leagues, he has been the subject of many complaints by managers, fans and hits the headlines a lot with his decision making. Don’t think that those eight yellows at Cardiff are a one off, he regularly hits the five or six mark, and frighteningly seven. And as we have said he has only completed six games with no cards, from well over 200 GAMES, think about it. This guy has a way of changing games. This will be cardo’s fifth swans game he has been allocated. What will we get on Saturday ? Turkey rustler Andy Davies, frightening card stats What is a Barnsley ? Barnsley is a hedonistic town in the north of the north. It’s a regular haunting for the likes of ghosts and Darren Gob from Talk Sport. Dazza Gobba is from Monk Breton in Barnsley and we will come back to that later. He alleges that he was once offered a pro football contract by Rotherham United. So, now it’s later why Monk Breton ? simple, it’s where Garry Monk was born, when they slapped his arse in the delivery room they noticed he was wearing an expensive watch and his wife took it off him. Barnsley is famous for the amount of magic mushrooms that can be located over a specific acre of field in a secret area everyone knows about just outside the town. In 2011 the Barnsley chop was banned in the town, the chop is a piece of meat, a cut close to the spine of an animal. At this point the animal is dead, or nearly dead, sometimes it is very dead. The Barnsley chop isn’t banned in Monk Breton and Gawber. Gawber is now called that name because someone in the past decided that would be a good idea. The name remains. Barnsleh ! was the first English town to cater for people with no heads in the T-shirt game 92,000 people live in that Barnsley where the favourite pastime of locals aged forty and over is playing in brass bands. Only 1% of the population is Asian before you lot start, but it does have countless white people of British birth, I don’t know why I am going here, but why not ? it’s a fact. The town isn’t as multi cultural as Whitland or maybe Kenfif Hill, but who is caring ? Don’t start your nonsense on here or I’ll offer you out. Ok ? Thingy, you know the umpire bloke and Michael Parkinson who actually came round our house once are from Barnsley. That’s about it, only five people who live there are called Lee Barnes. This is Darren Gobs house in Barnsley, it’s got a lovely paint job. Tha knaws Football news may appear later. | Swansea City v Barnsley : Matchday Thread TEAM NEWS on 09:01 - Dec 20 by Thornburyswan | Good summary that Doc, seeing as how Covid has/is impacting football outside the Prem I think our current model is broadly sustainable - provided we can keep bringing the kids through - at this level but will not work if we were to find ourselves going up. That said our owners, I suspect, would see going up as the best opportunity to exit. |
We are tremendously fortunate that a lot of the hardest work rebalancing the club financially was done before the pandemic. It's scary to think what kind of state we'd be in now if that hadn't been done. By the sounds of it we're also budgeting for no crowds this season which, once all is done and dusted, should leave us nicely placed. Premier League money does change everything. I don't think it's possible for a team to rely on youth products and expect to survive up there. You'd have to bring players in too, but better than we did towards the end. The recruitment structure is so important, but there are signs that we're doing it with more of an overall plan in mind now. If Kaplan and Co want their investment back then promotion is the only option. For now I suspect they're quite happy to just not be losing money. We've probably been a nice little tax write off for most of them.

| Swansea City v Barnsley : Matchday Thread TEAM NEWS on 18:27 - Dec 19 by Dr_Winston | Cooper has made us an organised, hard to beat Championship team without an awful lot of goals or flair in it. We're basically back in the 09/10 season again. There remain viable and reasonable long term concerns about his game management and the entertainment provided by his style of play, and it's important not to let those get lumped in with the kind of hysterical nonsense that some "contributors" feel the need to spout. If he had a player like Brewster available then perhaps we'd be more fun to watch right now. Be interesting to see what happens come the January window. |
I agree with the defensive side definitely but this side are far and away better going forward. Sousa was in typical serie A style more concerned about not conceding. It was far more boring to watch than our team this season. Some of our incisive passing has been breathtaking.

Not sure about your last paragraph. Biggest plus for me is the rise of Cabango who seems to be potentially a better play than Joe Rode. Even at his age,BG is a collosus and will be a very expensive sale for us any time soon. I pray we will not sell him for a derisory sum like Joe. This lad is going to be very big.

Every team thinks they should have more points than they have that is football sometimes you play well but don't get what you deserve Norwich and bristol away come to mind . A few times we have been lucky to win . |
Yes we know that our squad isnt as strong as the three relegated teams and you are also correct that we could have dropped points from games we won but as I've said we have players not getting gametime that would imo help take the pressure off the the 14 or so players cooper uses constantly. He obviously doesnt trust them to give them more gametime and goes with the tried and tested, touch wood gyokeres and palmer will return to their parent clubs and we might get a loan striker that cooper wants, couple that with the return of mgw and we will be in a stronger position as cooper will use both more regularly especially mgw.

Indeed. We should forget the Cooper love circle and concentrate of promotion rather than on one man. The best players will often play till they drop.Witness Salah and Sane getting subbed. They hate it but they are being controlled by Klopp to perform at their best always and not being flogged like a Greek donkey. Ayew is in dire need of a rest and should have come off before he received a possible injury on that bog. Where was Garrick/ Injured I hope as if not Cooper again guilty of messing players around. I seriously cannot understand the infettered love for Steve. We have enough talent to destroy teams and I think we underestimate some players

I've been impressed by Cabango since seeing him in the under 21s. He reminds me of Ashley Williams - not the tallest but positions himself to disrupt taller players, strong, reads the game well. deceptively quick, (despite what his detractors say) good at bringing the ball forward, good pass when his midfield isn't sleeping, plays the ball first time when the pass is on, fearless, crops up with the occasional goal and assist (something Joe didn't manage) and has always been a leader. His only drawbacks are - head drops if he makes a mistake (getting better) and moves to cover other players too quickly and can leave his mark with space. Future Wales captain. On the back three players. Guehi has really developed well this season - I was massively impressed yesterday when he put in three direct old fashioned face to face tackles.

Just as well really given the fella they have between the sticks who will often hang them out to dry under pressure. Does our goalkeeper coach actually encourage Fred to stay on his line at corners

He wasn't really that much forward. I feel for him sometimes as he clearly does not look comfortable. I have never seen a keeper so averse to coming for crosse and corners leaving his defenders to do the lot. Allowing bigger defenders to have a free header leaves him no chance of saving the ball. This boy would be destroyed at a higher level as he allows strikers virtual free access to the ball and they would bury headers. He has been very lucky IMO this season not to have conceded many more goals and this is because our 3 centre backs are terrific. Bennett got pelters after just 1 poor game at Derby. He needs to become our captain and get to grips with Fred.

During the Bassey game the commentator mentioned we had rotated 8 players in the previous 6 games whilst they had started with the same 11 during that time, it was mentioned several times in the Abbandanto thread about Coops rotating players. When you say rotated you mean substituted and when the subs went on, derby aside, they only got 10-15 mins so players aremt being rotated game by game, this is the problem I.am highlighting, he uses the same 11 players game after game, twice a week then brings subs on. And ftr I am not bashing him, I think he and his coaching team are serving us well, as I've said previously I think that we could be doing better if he gave certain players a rest and others more gametime.

He picks a team that’s full of players on form, without reducing the effectiveness of the team he then rotates certain players eg Smith for Fulton. The nucleus and spine of the first eleven is there and there are several lads pushing for more regular involvement ie Dhanda Palmer but let’s be honest we don’t have a huge squad of quality players ( capable of coming in ). Players who lose a bit of form can expect to miss out and a rest sometimes helps ie Ayew is not firing on all cylinders at the moment but he’s a class act and our best player. I think you’re looking for things to have a swipe when there’s no need. We are in 3rd place. That is punching above our weight undoubtedly ... There’s much to be pleased about

Battling performance founded on excellent controlled defending for (far too !) much of the 1st half after we came out of the blocks to go 1-0. Interesting that our Spine is strengthening - with now Fulton and Lowe solidifying the already solid spine of Grimes/Ayew. Having solid options in the spine is massive. Bennett/ Guehi another (incl big Ben). Add MGW into that spine is.... spine tingling.

| Swansea City v Barnsley : Matchday Thread THE FALL OUT on 21:44 - Dec 20 with 751 views | Brynmill_Jack | Looking back it was a good win against a side who’d won 4 out of their last 5 and arguable should have had two men sent off. Their goalkeeper should have gone (the two defenders weren’t covering as they were slightly behind Dhanda when he pushed the ball past him). The shirt pull on Lowe by their last defender in the second half was a definite red. According to the commentary the ref had his whistle in his mouth but inexplicably bottled it (probably again because it was a sending off). We aren’t having the rub of the green with decisions this season. | |

The Lowe decision was an absolute disgrace, he had the whistle in his mouth but realised he would need to send him off so completely bottled it. What we are dealing with is Officials who are no better than the local Welsh League ones, reffing in the second tier of English football and they are completely out of their depth. It's not just us saying it either.

Another guy who thinks he is an expert on goal keepers. Our goal keeper has only let in 12 all season the lowest in all football league and PL. His saves to shot percentage is also the second best in the championship. His passing success is also in the top five and thr best of all keepers for long passes. It is not easy to come for corners in the modern game as the opposition deliberately block keepers . I think I would rather trust experts' opinions on our goal keeper rather than armchair critics.

Different type of player to Rodon Not as good on the ball. More of an old fashioned centre half and Cabango does that well. He’s big strong and enjoys a good battle. A bit like Ashley Williams and he will only improve with years of development ahead of him too
