RADIO Talk Sport 2 LIVE commentary
It’s that ‘extra’ game on bilious Brentford that raises its ugly head. Fresh from the glare of the man child exploding and his tantrum over a penalty given away by his ridiculous decision to try and win a game he had no right to win. It’s Blackburn v Swansea.
Match Officials ROBERT JONES Ian Hussin and Adrian Holmes Fourth Official : Geoff Eltringham
Merseyside official Jones also took charge of the Swans twice last season, having the whistle for the win over Cardiff and the draw against West Brom at the Liberty Stadium. His only other previous Swansea game was the Carabao Cup clash with MK Dons in 2017, which the Swans won 4-1. Jones, who has refereed in the Championship since 2017, will be assisted by Ian Hussin and Adrian Holmes, while Geoff Eltringham is the fourth official. Robert Jones would like to make it known he has never played rugby. However, he has secretly stated he owes Swansea City a penalty or two and will definitely have that in the back of his mind.
The game has been rescheduled because Tony left the taps on for the last game and flooded the ground, strangely enough the once competent drainage system and under soil heating failed to work, allegedly because it wasn’t on, allegedly because the club couldn’t afford it, allegedly.
Tony’s textbook tactical tampering
As we can see swans tv are showing the game to season ticket holders who live in a light green market who hold season tickets between rows F and K. Personally I think this is scant reward for these people who have been in the glare of the yellow market since June 2020. I think it’s time there was a strongly worded letter sent from the red market to the club possibly moaning about something just for the sake of it. Legal action could happen. 😂 Not. Or even twice. Send the same letter twice or two different ones. In the days before markets there were markets but they were not called markets. It’s odd there is still a dark market, this sounds terrible and isn’t a place at would want to be without a torch. Long live the partially fluid, non gender, off purple, let’s have drugs market. It’s the place to be.
FORM GUIDE Blackburn have won one of their last six games, Swansea two out of their last six, oooops ! silly me, I meant four from their last six games. In their last six games Swansea lost at home to Middlesbrough 2-1, Oh damn, so sorry, I’m confused so easily these days, in their last game Swansea beat Middlesbrough 2-1, and Blackburn won away at Millwall 2-0.
The last time Blackburn beat Swansea in the league was in 2011, the score was 4-2:in the premier league. Back in October the swans beat Blackburn 2-0 at the Liberty. That premier league win for Blackburn in 2011 was the first time the sides had met since 1984. Since then games have ended either in a draw or a Swansea win.

The idea of playing this way in the Prem is horrific. Setting up like we did in Clement's last season. Sitting deep in our own half terrified of the opposition, only with worse players than he had available.
You would hope that we'd be a bit more adventurous if we went up, but it doesn't look as if he's got it in him. Even tonight, we sent on a 36 year old winger instead of a 20 year old striker. Everything about his approach screams caution.
Such a negative skew is anathema to us fans who look to support our club.
The way in which we took the game to Bristol (most recent example) and many before (eg Cardiff) screams clever, go-forward ambition, with a measured collective controlled defence.
Everything about his approach screams strength of character, nous, talent and never say die - which clearly washes over some of our less clever casual observers, from afar.
Imagine his clever, calculated approach with the talent of 2017 in the EPL next year.
Joint 2nd from top, not bottom as some twps imply from their constant demure, loser mentality.

Took the game to Bristol but...LOST. Playing well in agame weeks or months ago means nothing, you're only as good as your last performance and we were poor.

We gained another valuable away point against yet another wily manager and team set-up to beat us. We fought back, as ever and claimed a worthy point.
There's a defeatist, loser pattern emerging on here.
As expected, toxic matchday thread descends to the lowest common denominator. It's clearly an intellect and mindset weakness. A flaw. You know who you are.
Then the usual unthinking suspects jump on board (only when they see a cheap shot opportunity to wade in, two footed, most often blindly, without deep thought). You know who you are, as you only post when you can pretend you have a clever (but oh so obvious) insight.
Cardiff folk are lapping up this fickle, weak, shoddy fan behaviour, and quite rightly.
Shame.

It doesn’t matter if we do, promotion would be huge financially for us.
This is a very poor league, and we have a very good squad from young players like Roberts, Cabango, Guehi mixed with older more experienced heads in Bennett, Naughton and Ayew. Mainstays like Grimes who has pretty much statistically been best defensive midfielder in championship since we came down. We loaned in Hourihane who has the experience behind him of getting out of this league but we don’t know a way of accommodating him. We have a striker who has played Champions League football, gone for well over £40m in transfer fees in his career and pretty much still in his prime years. Highest paid player in this league by a country mile.
We needed energy so our highly thought of scout Scott brought Ariolla and Morris in aswell using the owners connections in US.
We aren’t over achieving.

You don't actually think Ayew played well do you? I know he scored from the spot, but most of the team could probably do the same.
Ayew bang out of form is another issue for us. We can’t drop him but apart from composure to finish the pens he hasn’t brought much to the party
So frustrating, we went from attacking the league to what seems like defending our position - I’m sure tiredness plays a factor but we need to improve as no teams are worried about us now

Financially it would be fantastic for the club, but it would be great if we could make a bit of a fist of it and stay there for a season or two, although maybe yo yo ing is the way to go, I don't know, but for now I'd just like to know where the performance from firstly the Cardiff game and latterly the Norwich games has gone, apart from patches we have been poor, yet we've had the results. Morris and us have been very unlucky, I think he'd have done well, Arriola we haven't really seen and he's got and injury niggle now, really tough on him.

Bony has played Champions league football and gone for fees in excess of 50m, still doesn’t mean he would be any good.
Ayew is a fantastic footballer, our best player. But to pretend he is some Champions League quality player to falsely bolster the squads status is a bit wrong.
Ayew isn’t and never has been a striker. We don’t have a striker. Well we do, but he’s a kid we signed from Derby for 800k who has scored 1 in 27 appearances (many of them out wide). We play a winger up front who was plying his trade for Hemel Hempstead and St Albans not so long ago, while our opposition have the likes of Pukki and Ivan Toney.
That is the difference and will most likely be the deciding factor on who gets to go up.

I've long thought our lack of an out and out striker would mean we'd hit a ceiling.
But at moment I'm not so sure, we don't seem to create any chances for a striker get on the end of. When was the last time one of our players actually missed 'a sitter'. A striker may get on the end of a few set pieces or crosses though. But at the moment the midfield is the most worrying aspect for me. Not creative, far from watertight.

Maybe because an out and out striker would give them something, for example make the right movements stay planted in middle, he strong to link up and get return to make easier to create..instead of both coming deep wandering and when we get it there nothing to hit..maybe that's why no chances being created

Yea fair points. Hold up and making the ball stick up front is definitely an issue at the moment.

Some good points there Dr, Ayew does a good job in both boxes but his relative lack of pace plus his tendency to drop when we don’t have the ball means we rarely have a decent out ball - personally I believe other teams have worked that out & if they flood midfield & push our wing backs towards our goal we struggle to both break out & retain the ball.
In theory the options of Lowe (criminally out of form plus very average first touch), Dhanda (too light weight), Morris (looked a decent option until the injury) & even Garrick (too inexperienced ) would all address that but for the comments in brackets it’s not working which piles the pressure on our midfield 3 which then cannot accommodate Hourihane (lack of mobility & work rate) who is our only other real goal & set-piece threat.
So what to do for the next 2 months - I guess two clear strategies of (1) broadly persist as is, as it’s got us this far, and hope Lowe plays himself back into form & Ayew keeps scoring penalties or (2) take a potentially riskier philosophy of changing both personnel & formation e.g. go 4-4-2 with Nauts & Bidders at RB/LB but with Manning & Roberts ahead of them in RM/LM and play both Ayew & Whittaker up top (Grimes plus one of Smith, Fulton, Hourihane or Dhanda for the middle two midfield spots) & use Lowe or Arriola from the bench as impact subs.

It looks like I'm definitely in the minority, but I actually thought Ayew did well last night. Problem was for me that no one was making the runs past him, Roberts and Bidwell were very quiet, not sure if that's fatigue or Blackburn did a job on them.
Again though, Lowe looked terrible, he's not a bad player, he's a very good one but his confidence is at rock bottom for some reason. Or atleast it looks that way.

If we had a big strong centre forward to hold the ball up and get on the end of Connor's long throws, we could dispense with the pretence of being a footballing side at all.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

The players we have under many other managers in this league alone would perform better.
We wouldn't have to rely on a penalty then luck.As we do.
This season is bizarre. We play dogshyte but right up there. All it shows is how poor standards are in this league.
IMO,whoever goes up will come straight back down again.

totally agree , people have very short memories ,the Prem is an entirely different ball game ,where passing is very accurate , movement with or without the ball has to be spot on , chances are normally taken , tactics have to be spot on and can change in an instant with good leadership , total football with speed is nearly always on the agender, championship teams posses very little of theses, I admire what Liids are achieving under Bielsa ,total football ,

Bennett, Guehi, Grimes and Ayew would walk into any side in this league. Spine of the side.
Hourihane was highly thought of coming here and many Villa fans thought us getting him could well have sealed promotion for us.
Naughton - Nearly 200 Premier League appearances Cabango - Full international Roberts - Full international, premier league player all day long Lowe/Whittaker - best part of a £1m each at this level is not cheap Manning - Season before joining us was the highest chance creator in championship, or right up there.
We have a very good squad, this is not over achieving.

Give it rest about the owners. If we go up and spend like we did from Monk on we'll be in an even worse situation or is that what you want? With the players we have we should be challenging Norwich for the title. Cooper may be responsible for bringing some of his favourites to Swansea but his limitations mean he is also responsible for holding us back.
I don't think everyone is giving enough consideration to the gruelling schedule this season. We have been playing twice a week for months.
Swansea have to travel some of the longest distances in the league. Playing at Stoke last week, then on Saturday and then at Blackburn on Tuesday just a couple of days rest inbetween.
Yes, it is very difficult for everyone but we are not seeing other teams week in week out and no one will be on top form every week, week in week out.
We have to accept that performance will vary, and that includes management, (you just have to look at Klopp or Mourinho)
I think all in all we are performing brilliantly this season. Everyone is giving it their all every game, and yes everyone is not going to be on top form every game. (Is anyone in their job whatever they do?).
We are all on the same side guys, we need more SUPPORT and less criticism.

Dire as we were,we could have won last night .
Could have won? Besides the penalty when did we threaten their goal? They only had 4 shots on target but all from open play, they deserved the win if anyone did.
I agree with whoever said maybe we're not creating because our frowards are often not there, they are deep or too wide. Our passing fluency has gone, our movement is poor, the pace has gone completely and what is more worrying after all the hoofball abuse we threw at Cardiff, we do seem to have become a long ball, long throw in team. Is it more a case of avoiding defeat rather than trying to win. We start off games so negatively. Lowe's confidence and/or tirednes, surely the only answer is rest? If he keeps playing any fatigue will only get worse and as or if his performances worsen his confidence seeps further away.

We could have won,Cat, had not Woody conceded that goal. We could have had another penalty.
Anything could have happened and yes,we could have won . It would have been even more embarrasing.
I cannot believe much what is posted, outsode your good self.
I refuse to believe the vast majority of fans do not recoil at every pyss poor attempt to keep goal by the present incumbent, seeing the likes of Naughton strolling through the game passing to the opposition,to see Hourihane literally not break sweat allowing Grimes to do the work for him,to see Jamal struggle so badly and still start before Whitaker, to see Cooper, hands in pockets, looking perplexed by it all.
