They actually state your argument and refute it. Try reading the whole thing and the data sets on which it is based rather than cherry picking bits that you think support your case. |
Again, it’s not my argument, it’s basic mathematical principles. It’s the worlds argument, not mine. Sciences argument if you like. The article is utter nonsense and does not debunk anything, let alone basic mathematical principles. Telling me to read it again really isn’t helping the debate or your point (do you even have one anymore?).

| Ma'Khia Bryant on 15:50 - Apr 26 by Dr_Parnassus | I read it. Its not an article, it’s a leftist author twisting data he doesn’t understand to create a senseless conclusion devoid of any mathematical or logical principles. It’s mind numbingly stupid. It’s stating that police kill the population at random and there are no mitigating circumstances. Your logic is clearly stated both in the silly article and your own initial post. You said clearly that black men are shot at 2.5 times the rate of white men. You also used population split to demonstrate that. That’s false. They are shot in proportion to their serious crime rate, as are all races. You do not use population for the simple reason that it’s incredibly stupid and intentionally misleading to do so. Your posts get more vague and less bumbling as you accept you are wrong. Today is no different. So we agree that all races are killed in proportion to their crime rate then? African Americans even less so, probably due to the baggage that comes with it when the criminal shot comes from that race. And I’m sure we also agree (unlike the article suggests) that police kill people who resist arrest or pose a direct threat. Not indiscriminate killings in the community at random. Perfect. So now we can rely on the FBI crime statistics per race and compare than to the race split in police killings... as I said. | |

I perfectly understand the graph, but clearly see it’s flaw. The graph suggests there is no correlation between violent crime and police shooting, which we already know is false. Police do not drive down the road shooting people on the street for just walking. They kill people that resist arrest or pose some form of threat to their life or someone else’s. To suggest otherwise is lunacy. When we accept that we can then look at the crime statistics per race and compare that to the % race split of police killings. It’s that simple.

That data says nothing of the sort, you must misunderstand it. So you think police are indiscriminately shooting random people on the streets? About 1000 people are shot and killed by police per year in the US. Do you know how many were killed without committing a crime or posing any immediate threat? Have a guess. If there is no correlation to violence or threat levels then you must think it’s the overwhelming majority yes? Or do you think the common denominator with the vast majority is that they were committing a crime, had just committed a crime or were posing a threat to commit a serious crime? The graph is based on police collected data. You describe it as wrong as it refutes your nonsense. We only ‘know it’s false’ as you’ve made up a correlation that does not exist in reality. Or rather you haven’t, but the sorts of intellectually challenged mouthpieces you read for your ‘facts’ have made it up, Do you need me to explain it using an example of an office party? So you can understand it? The reality is that although it’s easy to explain away Police brutality and killing of people as being a function of the crime rates within each community, it is actually not consistent with what is going on when details are looked at. I made the specific point of talking initially about ‘unarmed’ people being killed rather than armed. I fully accept that if there are more black people than white people pointing a gun at or near a police officer, they are more likely to get killed. But the ‘police interactions’ statistics you quote mask the fact that black people have more interactions with the police because they are more targeted in the first place for all sorts of minor infractions. The ‘ number per 10,000 Interactions’ makes no adjustment for the type of interactions that are happening. And the data (from the police themselves) clearly shows that the correlation you refer to between violent crime and incidences of police killing people simply doesn’t exist. The biggest discrepancy in police brutality in the US between people of different ethnicities comes in non violent, unarmed encounters where white people are simply not shot whereas black people, in some instances, are. There is an argument that says that the police are more likely to be scared or wary of black people because of violent crime elsewhere, but there is equally an argument that says they are just more inclined to react badly to a black person. When the data shows that police violence is not consistent with areas of high crime rates (which it does), it’s the second of those which looks likely enough to be fully investigated. Which is what the call is for. You are doing yourself no favours if you are genuinely interested in just accepting correlation where none exists. I suspect, however, that you have absolutely no genuine interest in any of this at all. Which really makes the whole discussion pointless. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The issue is the definition of ‘committing a crime’ and ‘posing an immediate threat’. George Floyd on the face of it had ‘committed a crime’. He’d used a fake twenty. What that statement of fact misses is the nature of the ‘crime’ or even whether it was a crime at all (did he know it was fake). I’ve stated a broader position in my previous answer.
| Ma'Khia Bryant on 16:33 - Apr 26 with 703 views | Dr_Parnassus | Ok so now that’s clear. Now anyone with half a brain cell in their head can clearly see that the common denominator behind a police killing is the person committing a crime, we can now return to crime rates. African Americans commit 37% of the serious crime rates in America. 26% of all crimes. Now let’s look at the police shootings:- In 2017 - 22.59% were black In 2018 - 13.95% were black In 2019 - 23.5% were black In 2020 - 23.8% were black At no point there has the amount of black people killed by police gone above their crime rate, which as we know is the prime mover behind the overwhelming majority of police shootings. They aren’t random. | |

Not “on the face of it”, he was committing a crime. The police were not there by accident, they didn’t happen across him. They were called by a business because he essentially stole goods from them. Upon his arrest he refused to go into the police car, resisting arrest. The police then took him to the floor where he died. Awful scenario. But again that is directly linked to police contact due to crime rate. He wasn’t picked at random, this happens to all races. Also important to note that not being armed does not mean not posing an immediate threat. If I was about to ram you with my car, I’d be unarmed. If I was strangling someone, I’d be unarmed. If I was jumping on someone’s head, I’d be unarmed. The list goes on and on. This girl was trying to knife someone. Breonna Taylor had a dead body in her car and her boyfriend shot at police through her door (she was technically unarmed). All of these cases aren’t innocent bystanders, there are clear reasons and correlations to why they were killed. Floyd being a notable exception, but he wasn’t shot, he died as a result of a restraint that was poorly and recklessly applied, again something that has happened in all races). Which tends to be your usual response when you don’t like what was posted. Why on earth you would think a topic such as this is any sort of game God only knows. I took exception to your post that parroted the false stat that black people are 3 times more likely to be shot and killed by police than white people. I explained that’s because some idiot has compared it against population and not crime rate. I have shown how crime is a prime mover behind these incidents. I have shown you that the crime rates are disproportionately high in the black community. I’ve shown you that it’s not just “minor crimes” either, but actually 37% of the total serious violent crimes. So these aren’t random. The crime rate in the black community outstrips their population three times over, so police contact will be three times higher and thus the chances of these interactions to go wrong 3 times higher... when compared to population. I asked you how many of the 1000 police shootings per year (25% ish black) were of the result of committing no crime and you didn’t seem to know. All of these famous cases however show that crimes were being committed, were not random and in the vast majority of cases violence had been used, was being used or was a threat of being used. If you don’t want to discuss it then you don’t want to discuss it, I can’t make you. But I suspect you never did as soon as actual common sense was brought into it. [Post edited 26 Apr 2021 17:10]

I'm feel the same as Dr. P with this. The overall crime rate does play a part. I would add that racism is part to blame, not necessarily Police racism. There is racism across all of society, I believe everyone is racist to an extent, no matter what their colour. The question that should be asked, is why do black people get pulled into crime at a higher rate per % population than white. Racism will be part of that answer, not police racism, but society as a whole. Why is it easier for a white person to get the opportunities to break free of poverty. For the same reason you see a higher ratio of black people in sport such as football, American and our soccer, its a way to escape poverty. White people get better opportunities and therefore less % of the white population turn to crime as an escape. There are other reasons but racism is high on the list.

This is a really valid point. As well as the obvious opportunities found in urban as opposed to rural areas, London has benefitted from a huge financial investment into education over the last 20 years, taking their schools to being the best in the country. Education is the the best way out of poverty but it’s not a simple as just having good schools - it needs parental interest. Tuition fees haven’t helped either.

| Ma'Khia Bryant on 14:32 - Apr 26 by Dr_Parnassus | It’s not clever nor is it “a take” on anything. It’s literally the hard data, devoid of opinion or bias. Simply the correct calculation when looking at any sort of specific rate. It isn’t parroted from anyone, it’s basic mathematics. If they have said it also, it’s probably because it’s factual and the only way to look at that kind of data. There is nothing to debunk. This is data from the FBI database. All races are killed in proportion to their serious crime rate. It’s that simple. You do not, repeat, do not - work out any sort of a “rate” with regards to police brutality by looking at population demographics. It is one of the most ridiculous trains of thought one can have and one many left wing sites and “journalists” thought very basically about and ran with it... and thus it has bred posts such as yours. I read your links and they are again doing the nonsensical thing of population adjustment. It’s crime rate not population that is the calculation, the police don’t randomly kill the population - they kill people involved in police contact. Surely you know this? It really isn’t a complex thing. Completely basic. ............ I’ll try and explain this as simply as I can by taking it away from the emotive subject of police killings, as some are too entrenched in their views they cannot see what they are saying makes absolutely no sense. For example. 100 staff in an office (take this as population). 90 white, 10 black (take this as population split). 10 people break office protocols at the Xmas party. 5 black and 5 white (take that is as crime rate). All are subsequently fired (take that as police killings). Now what you are suggesting is that in this instance the office is targeting black people because it fired 50% of the black workforce and only 4.5% of the white workforce and saying that black people are 10 times more likely to get fired. But that isn’t the case is it, that’s patently false. Because they were all fired for a reason, and both races faced the same punishment. All were treated the same, equally and fairly. In order to prove that, you take the total pool of protocol breakers (10) and deduce your % from that.... not the total workforce, because if you behave you don’t face that action. In this instance all races were fired in proportion to their rate of breaking protocols, 100% each. I can’t explain it any simpler than that. [Post edited 27 Apr 2021 3:46]

There’s no ‘being with Dr P’. Extensive research has been done and shows there is no correlation between police killing individuals and crime rates. He’s made it up (or at least, some small minded person has to try to explain away bias). The biggest discrepancy in police killing and other brutality of suspects / members of the community between black and white is in non violent, non armed interactions. It is a matter of fact. I’m not arguing about it. Any more than I’d argue that the Earth is round rather than flat with someone who insists that’s not the case despite all evidence to the contrary. On the wider question, more crime is committed by the poorest in society. Always has been. In Swansea the most crime is committed in, and by people from, the poorest areas. Same in London. Same in the US. In London, as an example, the populations of the poorest areas happen to be a far larger percentage Black and people from other minority ethnic backgrounds than is the overall percentage in the U.K. . Same in the US. Hence the effect on the figures.

Everything I have stated is a fact and can be checked by anyone who watches the videos available of the trial. The alternative reality is something that is being imposed in the USA by a bunch of tyrannical, off the chain, Lefties. Your lot could never get away with that shiit here though Try this on for size... The Impeachment trial of Donald Trump has come and gone and he was found not guilty. However much you don’t like it.
