| Welsh independence on 13:41 - May 8 by TenbySwan | The Welsh Assembly get x amount of money every year for the devolved areas and split it up between those areas, they for example chose to give free prescriptions and free school meals during the holidays etc. The money they get will only go so far and if they had chosen to build the M4 RELIEF road they would have had to make huge cuts to the budget for health and education etc. RTD2 said that he would have built the M4 relief road, well guess what, - he still can by asking Boris to give the Welsh Assembly Government the money to do so. This is extraordinary funding and should not be expected to come out of the normal budget. Westminster have found the money for HS2 and could easily find the money for the M4 if they wanted to. |
Boris has already said he would pay for it

You obviously don’t know what you are talking about. The Welsh governments idea of solving the congestion on the m4 is to spend up to £840,000,000 building 6 new train stations between Cardiff and Newport 😂. Hopefully the UK government will step in and over rule those muppets running Wales.

Not to be personal but you clearly haven't been paying attention.. Johnson said he'd pay for the M4 relief road but Drakeford said it wouldn't happen, https://www.itv.com/news/wales The limited amounts Wales gets haven't stopped Drakeford splurging over 1.1 billion on the heads of the valleys widening AND the tripling of the Velindre Cancer centre bill, it tripled largely because the Senedd is using PFI which is scandalous. If the 14 mile M4 relief is too expensive how is the 11 mile heads of the valleys not too expensive given the relative benefits? If it's about the environment then why did they build over Cardiff bay?

Wales will never vote for independence as long as they are getting generous subsidies from the UK government.

Yes and that's why Wales is in a mess. Drakeford complains Westminster doesn't give him enough money but then turns down some extra money. No negotiations, no thinking about it.

Wales receives an extra £9 billion per year under the Barnett formula. That is over £3000 per person more than in England. I think that is what is called generous.

| Welsh independence on 15:58 - May 8 with 826 views | DwightYorkeSuperstar | "Devolved areas include health, education, economic development, transport, the environment, agriculture, local government and some taxes." Health - We have the most poorly run NHS in the UK. Education - We have been bottom of the PISA rankings ever since Wales have been in control of education. Economic development - We run at the biggest deficit out of all home nations. Transport - £40,000,000 spent consulting the M4 issue in South East Wales. It's now scrapped entirely and Westminster have stated they'll step in as it is a huge barrier to economic growth in Wales. The environment - All looks fine here. Agriculture - Again, fine. Local government - Appalling. How much wasted on vanity projects like the bendy bus? Taxes - Fine. It's staggering how they have remained in charge. | |

That figure you give is completely wrong and possibly made up. The three nations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland received £9.5 billion from the treasury with Scotland getting the lions share of £5 billion. So if you think £3000 per person (which is not actually what it is for) and the is less than a third of your figure then it is not generous?

The EU got its funding from the UK then returned some of it Wales. You are correct the UK taxpayers funded the heads of the valley roads.

Not made up at all. The subsidy takes into the tax raised in each country and the money spent in each country via the block grant . The barnett formula only makes up a part of the subsidy Tax raised in Waled pet petson is 76% of UK average while spending pet person is 108% of UK average. [Post edited 8 May 2021 16:41]

Practically all of the money spent by the Welsh government is funded by the block grant from the treasury. It is not a subsidy it is a block grant decided by the Barnett formula, which is not in Wales favour compared. I am intrigued to know what subsidy you introduce and where they come from.

Nope, it's paid for by what they now call MIM, a rehashed version of PFI. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk- People seem very keen to give the EU credit for things they aren't involved in. We have left the EU and we will be paying for this widening for 30 years. The build is 590 million, with the interest taking it to 1.1 billion.
