Negative views and match attendance 23:35 - Sep 12 with 6899 viewsWalterBoyd

Just curious if there is a link. Someone posted earlier that most negative views are from fans who don't actually attend matches. I am unsure.

Onehunglow, Dwight , Dr Parnassuss , Shingle and AndyCole.

Out of the 5 of you, do any of you attend any Swans matches. How often ?

It's great to have the negative input, for every ying needs a yang and keeps us all on our toes.

I am genuinely curious if there is a link to fans not attending matches having a more negative view to the managers approach.

Your input is much appreciated.

Dr P only watches Swans games on TV. He lives in Australia and his “opinions” (rantings) cannot be taken seriously .

But we did “go for it”. Going for it doesn’t mean attacking when that isn’t your strength, otherwise you end up 10th like Potter.

We went for it by ditching an ineffective style and gave ourselves the best possible chance of success, which worked as we improved our league position and points tally year on year. It would be stupid to revert back to an ineffective style after proving another style is more successful.

10th - 6th - 4th - 20th. Coopers style being the middle two, it’s no coincidence.

I honestly hope I never have to view the game through your eyes Dr P - I'd probably give it up

There’s more to football than the points you are trying to make. I understand that you’re in the business of football stats etc and I understand but no matter how you dress the facts up it’s not an exact science. Too many moving parts in the whole package for me - I get that’s not how you see it and you’ll probably tell me I’m wrong but it won’t change me

I’m not trying to change you.

Facts aren’t just stats though, facts can be historical events. Like us finishing 4th for example, not really a stat, more just a fact.

My views are based on what has happened. I tend to clash with those that put more importance on what “may” happen.

But one is infinitely more accurate than the other. xG being a prime example.

OHL - oh hell lookout, Andy pandy and DrBorefest.

Caught them shopping earlier in home bargains.

Time on.my hands earlier, looked through other fan sites and not to my surprise. We are blessed. We have all the 'special ones' here. No other site has a statto whose sole intent is to ruin chat and opinion, oddly because they have no opinion themselves.

The bad news, I have googled it, it's an illness, Aspergers. Dr has it. No cure. We have to live with it.

It’s an excellent achievement for a team that played any kind of way. Potter finished 10th despite spending more in his one season than Cooper spent in his two combined.

No that’s incorrect. The fitness of the squad is the direct responsibility of the fitness coach, who reports to the head coach. The manager has very little to do with the sports science side of the game, with the exception of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal in the early stages of his appointment.

In fact, managers sometimes aren’t even on the training ground in pre season. It’s purely fitness for a while.

Managers have a massive say in fitness.

Our players will need to be much fitter to play RM football, as opposed to Cooper's.

Bielsa for instance, would not just go in and trust the fitness coaches to get on with it, as they did with the previous manager.
They tell the fitness coaches what they need and the fitness coaches do what they are told by the manager, not the other way round.

No, fitness is essentially down to the sports science guys and fitness coaches. If this needs adjusting throughout the season the manager can then discuss that with them and the club and dedicate more time to anaerobic exercise.

But pre season started back on July 4th and Martin was announced just over 3 weeks later. Any deficiencies within that 3 week period that Martin noticed can be easily corrected in the subsequent 7 he has been here. They just had a 2 weeks international break for starters.

Fitness is not something I am taking as an excuse.

So when Cooper walked out on us, you'd have rathered get in a defensive, pragmatic manager to continue Cooper' good work in being able to play our defensively equipped players to their best?

You'd prefer Pulis, or McCarthy or the like?
Cooper i gone. He walked out.
Why would you want someone to come and play Cooper style, or worse?

Or do you think that, after realising the defensive style didn't and wouldn't get us promoted, it may be time to flick the switch and get back to playing football which the players and fans would both enjoy?
It may take longer to gain promotion that way, but it's going to be better in the long run.

Where did I say what type of manager I would have preferred to replace Cooper?

Where did I say I would have preferred Pulis or McCarthy?

We tried to get promotion playing passing football under Potter, it didn’t work. We got nowhere near.

I don’t mind what manager we bring in or what direction we go in as long as we see results. Happy to change to a passing style if we have a manager capable of doing that and getting results. As you know, I don’t believe there is any reason we can’t be doing so currently.

The same reason he gets blamed for everything, people are desperate to discredit his achievements no matter how far around the houses they have to go in order to do it.

Embarrassing really.

Pre season was 3 weeks old when he came in, if the squad isn’t fit then he needs to have some stern words with his fitness coaches and his scouting network who were happy to bring in unfit players.

Of all the excuses that get trotted out, this is probably one of the worst… along with him being a new manager… and having new players. All three are kind of on some sort of tiresome and eye-roll inducing par for me.
