| Steve Cooper gone EXCLUSIVE 😂 on 23:20 - Oct 6 by Dr_Parnassus | I don’t think he had any sort of reign on transfers, has the feel of January about it when he was given Kieron Freeman, Jordan Morris, Conor Hourihane, Ben Hamer and Paul Arriola when all he wanted was a striker. I think if promoted with us then the ownership would have made moderate funds available to which there would be a sensible plan in place to progress. I can’t imagine they would try to sign every player under the sun and then say “there you go” to him as they have done this season. But I also think he wouldn’t have kept us up. Our squad was awful, has any permanent player in that side been picked up to go to the Premier League? I can’t think of one. We had no business getting promoted. |
Can’t comment too much on the transfers as I don’t have inside information, but I agree with your comments on not being able to keep the club up. In my opinion, just getting the team up would have been a minor miracle after the “austerity/cost cutting” years post Premier League relegation and I think the owners would only have made modest investments in the anticipation or expectation of relegation. One year in the PL operating on a modest budget would have allowed the club to lay a solid foundation for subsequent seasons, sustainability etc and building a better squad with a view bouncing back to the PL. Being a yo-yo club is now the best most of the teams going up from the Championship can expect to be.

That's a massive turnaround by Cooper and the club. The devil must be in the detail of the contract.

😂😂 2025!!!! Don't know what's worse, signing all those players or giving such a long contract to Cooper 🤣 That club is only going one way and seem to be in a rush to get there.

Agree. Lunacy given their current position and results

I recon he has had a pay increase with a clause no buy out and no severance pay. They can get shot and he can leave whenever with no cost either way.
| Steve Cooper gone EXCLUSIVE 😂 on 21:37 - Oct 7 with 810 views | Dr_Parnassus | The most sensible decision the owners have made this season. Rolls Royce manager, would be stupid to sack him after a handful of games after inflicting a new squad upon him. | |

Would he sign that deal? Without those clauses Cooper is laughing all the way to the bank. The money Forest have spent and the contractual commitments mean relegaton could be a complete disaster for them and then they do this? Has a lunatic taken over the asylum?

Speaking to two very knowledgeable contacts this afternoon on this and they reckon the Forest owner prepares his managerial contracts so bizarrely they are very difficult to agree to. There is a belief that the one Cooper has signed has some mad bits but is more leaning towards finance for success than he had before.

It won’t be a disaster, they have shelled out that money because they can. I don’t imagine they would have taken out loans to do so, other than directly from them. A bit like Tan at Cardiff. They have clearly realised they have approached it completely wrong. I can only assume they have now given Coops the assurances he wanted and maybe that’s the end of their meddling on that sort of scale? Makes sense to me. I mean, who else could they realistically get with a better record than Steve Cooper? Promotion 33% of the time, playoffs 67% of the time. This year was always going to be about staying up and then building from there… They are 2 points off safety.

So the fee free exit clauses are not out of the question? But he has had a pay increase heavily loaded to success?

You have said that every season he’s been a manager, he always shows the comment to be utterly ridiculous.

Three successive years of getting to the playoffs and one promotion to PL. He seems to be able to find a system that uses the attributes of the players he has and gets results. Still some people think that is a managerial failure.

Hes proving to be now. If he gets them going after this bad start then hats off to him. Just can't quite understand why they have given him an extension, as has been stated, there must be quite a few conditions.

Last season was a fantastic achievement in fairness. However, many managers, many of whom have a more successful record than Cooper, have been sacked after finding themselves in the bottom three following a successful previous campaign. Forest have bucked this trend, which defies all logic. If he succeeds in turning it around then he will deserve all the credit going, I just cannot see it happening.

Rogers signed a new contract with us and was gone quickly. The detail is in the contract in things like this. There is normally a reason for everything.

an overrated manager with some history of achievement as opposed to an overrated manager with no achievement which would you take? No need to answer

Personally I think the jury is out. He left us apparently because we would back him financially. This season Forest have backed him financially and they are bottom of the league. If he turns this around he will rightly receive the plaudits if not questions will be asked about his ability as a sustainable manager.
