| RMT Strikes on 17:04 - Nov 30 by felixstowe_jack | Good to see the railway workers have voted to accept the Rail Industries offer of 5% 2022/2023 with no changes to working practices. It gives them time to negotiate the pay rises for 2023/24 which are likely to have some modernisation involved. Not sure Mick Lynch is happy they voted to end the Strike as it is the same pay offer they could have last April. |
So they’ve lost pay for 8 months only to accept what was offered in April. Nice work Mick. Not sure he would have lost any pay himself though .

They managed to keep the ticket offices open though, didn’t they? Wouldn’t have happened without the strikes continuing.

The strikes were nothing to do with shutting tickets offices they were all about pay. The announcement and consultantion to close ticket office did not start until about six months after the strikes started. I am sure the Rail Companies will close some of the rarely used ticket offices when they need to.

Which I reckon would be a sensible policy rather than the mass closures they were after. It could well be that the ticket office decision was just timed fortunately but it happened nether the less. If it wasn’t for the strikes I’m not sure the uturn would have happened.

Just shows most unions are stuck in tye 1960s and 1970s. They have still not learned that strikes cost their members money and jobs. Progressive unions work with companies to innovate and create jobs. Remind me are unions allowed in Russia yet?

The strike did cost the members money, but they also succeeded in securing the paysise without the changes to their terms and conditions and the closures the government wanted so I’m sure they’ll argue they’ve also benefitted over the longer term.

The Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia was founded in 1990 as a national trade union centre independent of the state, political and business structures

A trade union independent of state or politics. Nice words. Check out what happens to anyone who opposes Putin. Boris Nemtsov.

Was part of the reforms under the enlighten Pro Western, Pro democracy Russian Presidents Gorbachev and Yeltsin. When Russia sought out prosperity, democracy and political freedom of choice for its citizens. Sadly all these reforms were crushed when ex KGB officer became president. Since when free elections, the right to strike, protest have all been crushed.

After the collapse of the USSR, a new organization emerged as the successor of the Soviet trade union – the Federation of Independent Trade Unions (FNPR). Now it is the largest trade union organization in Russia, with a membership of 21 million people. https://www.rbth.com/society/2

That’s pretty much exactly what has happened. In addition, passengers will feel the benefits from open ticket offices. I’ve no idea what Russia has to do with it 🤷🏻 [Post edited 3 Dec 2023 10:23]
