| RMT Strikes on 12:08 - Nov 16 by Gwyn737 | My understanding and I could be wrong, is that overtime can be worked so money isn't lost. This is different to the NHS/School strikes where you lose wages and can't recover pay or days of service. |
ASLEF announced today that there is an overtime ban from 1st to 9th December. In the NHS consultants loose around £500 per day when on strike. They gain £3000 per day when covering for striking junior doctors as they are paid at locum rates.

| RMT Strikes on 12:21 - Nov 16 with 2109 views | 1983 | The rail industry is on its knees without the strikes. They didn't recruit during covid for obvious reasons and then all the train operating companies put a freeze on recruitment again while the Tories were playing silly games, now they've stopped playing silly games and thrown the operating companies under the bus there are holes in the industry everywhere, my roster clerk would have me working 24hrs a day if she could and would then ask.me to do more. The rail industry is a shambles! | |

I wonder if the lack of overtime make a difference. I assume over a longer period it would.

The mean and median income for an NHS consultant is similar around £120K and the average private income is £40K. They get a very good pension for their NHS work which has no limit. There's a lot of tax payer funded income. [Post edited 16 Nov 2023 17:18]

With inflation coming down any public sympathy there was and that was very little will quickly evaporate. As I said in the beginning either strike or don't, they have just been playing at it.

| RMT Strikes on 23:42 - Nov 16 with 1884 views | majorraglan | My understanding is that the train companies can only fulfil schedules by paying out overtime, the government should insist the train operators should employ sufficient staff to run the schedule, if they fail to then they should be fined and if that doesn’t work the franchises should be stripped off the companies. | | | |

You got the first part right they do but when their trains are delayed due to infrastructure problems, bad weather, fatalities...etc Network Rail (government) have to give them money!...its all an illusion where at the end of the day nobody is out of pocket except the tax payers. Corruption hiding right in front you.

Unfortunately there is no agreement with the ASLEF for a 7 day working rota . Weekend services can only be run with voluntary overtime. It is one of the outdated practices that the Rail companies are trying to reform but the unions are of course are refusing to negotiate. Doubt the rail companies could employ drivers for just Saturday and Sunday to run Weekend services. Just imagine if the retail and hospitality sectors refused to accept Weekend working.

It’s simply a case of a Union acting as they did in the 60 s and 70s. Whilst giving us the protection for their members line, they simply refuse to accept modern and more efficient practices. Not a xxxx is given. It is all about them and nobody should fall for the supporting the bothers and sisters garbage .

It was the customers who won that battle with their feedback to the consultation process plus the various charities. Nothing to do with unions.

It’s crazy that we’ve got a government so out of touch that they proposed the closures in the first place.

It was the railway companies that proposed closing ticket office for years not the Government. A bit like banks.

The recent proposal to close the ticketing offices was instigated by the government, they told the railway companies to propose the closures which would be rubber stamped by the DofT. There was a public backlash, faced with a barrage of criticism the government changed its position and threw the train companies under the bus. Nothing to do with banks.

The railway companies were told by the government to propose the closure of ticket offices, it wasn’t instigated by the railway companies it was proposed by the government. When it all kicked off and the extent of the public’s displeasure became apparent the government rejected the train companies proposals out. The train companies were incensed because they were only doing the governments bidding but were made to look like idiots.
| RMT Strikes on 06:42 - Nov 27 with 1231 views | 1983 | The thing here with this government they are so out of touch with the average person they went in two footed and made a bold and brash idiotic decision to try and close ALL ticket offices. If they said they would take each ticket office on a tickets sold numbers individual basis they could have chipped away at it slowly without a wiff from the RMT or the public and then started on the bigger ticket offices later on. | |

Good to see the railway workers have voted to accept the Rail Industries offer of 5% 2022/2023 with no changes to working practices. It gives them time to negotiate the pay rises for 2023/24 which are likely to have some modernisation involved. Not sure Mick Lynch is happy they voted to end the Strike as it is the same pay offer they could have last April.
