| RMT Strikes on 10:37 - Dec 20 by Whiterockin | Everyone deserves a rise but if everyone gets what they are asking for inflation would soar to a higher level, making the increase disappear. Repeat every year or reach a compromise now. |
Surprisingly that is one thing i don't actually agree with. Does everyone really deserve one? Maybe managers and management should actually have to do a job of appraising their staff and awarding pay rises for performance. It's one thing i can't stand about the public sector, you can be terrible at your job but would still get the same raise as everyone else.

Can only speak for schools but pay increments are entirely linked to annual performance appraisals and have been for the last decade. Same situation in schools as FB outlined in the fire service - the bigger issue isn’t the side of the payrise, it’s the fact it’s not funded.

How would you propose sorting the recruitment issues? The pay isn’t enough to fill posts, particularly in the health service. If you’re saying we can’t afford it then we can’t have it 🤷🻠

Yep porters who sit about doing very little, admin staff who pass folders from 1 place to another, nurses who take blood & whilst they are not doing it stand about chatting whilst the fracture clinic is manic, receptionists in ENT who allow a queue to build up in ears & nose but wont check you in as they only manage throat. All of the above are examples that happen in the Princess of Wales Bridgend, there for all too see if you go there & they are not worthy of a pay rise. Nurses who work in A&E, on wards & theatres are certainly worthy of a very hefty pay rise.

Ridiculous pay rises? We don't want a ridiculous pay rise, just a fair one, one that gives a fair wage. What makes you think that the government cannot afford the rises? Is because the government tell you via the mainstream media 🙄

You’re right. The figure is probably half of that. Certainly enough to give pay rises across the board for 2 years while proper policies are drawn up.

Only speaking from my experience in public sector, not in schools so I'm sure you've got that spot on there. Pay not linked to performance in my opinion is the reason a number of public sector bodies struggle to retain good staff. Or good staff decide not to bother as there is no benefit to being good at their jobs. I do really despise the premise that there is simply no money to fund a pay rise or to provide adequate equipment and facilities. There is always money to fund vanity projects, nuclear weapons etc etc.

| RMT Strikes on 22:09 - Dec 20 with 2078 views | majorraglan | Increments in the NHS are now linked to appraisals and performance, there is no longer an automatic right to an increment. I’ve no issue with linking increments to performance but it has to be managed fairly. It was once proposed that a place where I previously worked moved on to appraisal related pay, but it was eventually dropped as there were considerable challenges, including fairness and funding. My enough money was being set aside to reward all those who deserved the increment and it became extremely disruptive. I’ve seen promotion processes where one of the first question a candidate has to answer “Is what have you done over and above your role ...........?” Most candidates will evidence this to a degree, but from my experience the best answers come from those who can BS the best and spend all their time networking, going to meetings and actually doing f.. all !! The grafters are trailing well behind because they’re focussed on doing the job to a high standard. It’s the same with appraisals, people can and do spend a disproportionate amount of time BS ing and gathering evidence for appraisals it impacts on their work and deflects others from their objectives. Get it wrong and the accusations of bullying fly! A sensible approach would be welcomed by most, but when it’s just being done to cut costs it's fraught with danger. | | | |

Spot on. From my experience, the ones that got extra in their appraisals and got promotion were the networkers and noshers. Performance rewards are very often given on subjectivity rather than objectivity. Performance is great with something you can actually measure like footballers, but not in somewhere like the NHS

There are many right minded people in this country not earning anywhere near the annual wages that rail workers receive , hows about contributing to those who have struggle on the minimum wage and not those already on up to 74k basic Average Train Driver Salaries Per Year 2020 2022 GWR - train driver salary - Cashfloat Great Western Railway £56,773 £60,620 SER - train driver salary - Cashfloat Southeastern Railway £53,620 £57,030 London Underground - train driver salary - Cashfloat London Underground £55,711 £59,732 Arriva group - train driver salary - Cashfloat Arriva Group £60,945 £66,677 london midland - train driver salary - Cashfloat London Midland £54,040 £55,854 virgin trains - train driver salary - Cashfloat Virgin Trains £66,231 £74,151

Heard someone on the radio didnt catch who talk some sense. he advocated giving the lowest paid 20% (i was just about to turn off) upto band ??? (cant remember) this equates to about 4k which everyone else will get over the band i cant recall. He then went on to say free degree and to take the training restraints off, i couldnt believe that bit. He finished off by saying that this will make no difference as we need to start with the min wage carers in the nursing/care sector to make a substansial difference. Now i dont care for po;itical bollox regarding the NHS as they are all useless and it needs to be taken away from the career MP's.
