🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Are you for real?

Didn't you read my last post?

FYI there aren't 30 year pensions anymore, you can't retire after 20 years, you can't retire at 50, as I've said previously, you HAVE to work until you are 60, if you go early you lose upto 21% of what you have put in, its a disgrace as they KNOW that most ffs won't get anywhere near 60, they are thieves without the masks.
[Post edited 12 Dec 2022 17:20]

That's the same in the private sector or any other workplace

Everyones is different as people join at different ages, now to get a full pension you have to do 40 years, so you have to join at 20.

We lose 21% at 55 and it tapers down as you work upto 60.

The gold plated pensions have long gone, that's why more and more new recruits aren't joining the scheme, they are investing elsewhere like buying a house and renting it out, this government don't like public sector pensions, they don't want career ffs, that's why they are making the pensions less attractive, its putting people off joining the fire service and I suspect its the same in other public sector jobs.

Public sector pensions are generally more generous than private sector pensions, the indexation of benefits is one key difference. The big picture here is that pensions have been eroded on the last 40 years by governments of all hues. This is lunacy when faced with a rapidly ageing population which means more responsibility for pension income falls on the state. Gordon Brown created a fundamental shift away from decent final salary schemes when he took away the tax breaks from businesses making final salary schemes prohibitively expensive to employers.
Add pensions to housing and health and you can see long term strategic issues mismanaged for 40 years in favour of short termism. Now we are in the financial sh1t taxes are up to pay for today's bills rather than invest for the future.

No they are not.

For example do you know what pension a firefighter gets?

Pay more, get less, and HAVE to work until 60, if you retire before then you lose upto 21%.

Most firefighters will have to get another job just to make ends meet.

Yes alot have second jobs but when you think of how much we contribute, 14% of our wage we need to get one to make ends meet.

Quite a few new firefighters aren't joining the scheme because they would rather invest their hard earned money into something more productive because they know the current scheme is poor and its only going to get worse, the current government want us putting fires out when we are 65.

Being a public sector worker isn't as good as it used to be.

Have to work till 60? The majority have to work another 7 years on top of that.

Firefighters up north must be different to those in South Wales as those I know are not making 'ends meet' on their days off but almost another living be it painting & decorating, tiling or other odd jobs.

The public sector are not some charity case who deserve to retire early on a great pension they need to pay into it like the rest of us.

If they feel investing in property is the best option that's their call the same as anyone working in the private sector.

Doing what a fire fighter does would kill many 60 yr olds . Same applies to the Police. Imagine chSin* on foot some scrote who then wants to fight you with a weapon .

Then ,having arrested the said scrote ,to be faced with a learned counsel making you doubt 6ur very existence and all this at 60.

I can still handle myself even at 72 but many men and women are physically shot at 50.

Look at the obese around our towns hardly able to walk

The pension scheme was an enticement to encourage people to join, the job is dangerous, wages are lower than private sector and more importantly lifespan of ffs is lower than the national average, that's why we retire earlier than 67, as I've said previously the pension is nowhere near as good as it was and we have to work until 60, there aren't many that will do that.
.
Charity case eh?

Not for a minute do I think its a charity case.

Obviously as with any profession if you feel you are going to retire early you make provisions whether that be in pensions/property or do a course on your days off to allow you to continue working after you leave the fire service.

Move back to South Wales I know quite a few fireman who work on their days off in a trade they have picked up which they continue when they have retired to top up their decent pension.

Unfortunately those of us in the private sector are not here to look after those in the public sector if they choose to retire early.

Life's a bitch for us all.

Tax payers help fund public sector pensions, public sector pensions are far better than can be bought on the open market.

Unfortunately if we are all in this together it would only be right if austerity also applies to teachers, NHS, police etc when it comes to pensions.

We all pay our taxes penc, so I contribute twice towards mine and as I've said previously I pay 14% of my wage to my pension, that's a fair whack when I could actually lose over 20% if I have to retire early.

There’s no denying the fact that public sector workers have access to the best pensions. NHS workers can expect around £10 back in retirement for every £1 saved. Teachers not far off that amount, nor are civil servants and those who work for the local government. Basically the ones you often hear complaining. Whereas those in the private sector who are part of an auto enrolment scheme offered by their employers often receive 3% contributions. Then the money is invested into the market with no guarantee of a return. I don’t feel sorry for anyone though. Everyone knows the score when they take the job and often turn up in a shirt and tie hoping to benefit from it.

I used to be in the army and would often find myself filling in for someone on strike who would be getting paid more than I was for doing it. The conditions were also better haha. Anyway… Hopefully Lynch gets his pay rise just before drawing his final salary pension.

We don't get £10 for every pound, ours is more like £3 to a pound.

As I keep banging on public sector pensions are nowhere near what they used to be.

They did something with tax relief if I remember. It was individual companies and corps that decided to stop final salary pensions though and not any govt

Seems like a similar story with teacher pensions as with the fire service.

Some still bang on about these golden final salary pensions, when final salary pensions for teachers stopped 15 years ago.

If your service started pre 2015 you can retire on full pension at 60 with 38 years uninterrupted service. You can retire at 55 but you lose around 8% for every year taken.

Those who joined post 2015 need to go to 65.

It won’t be far off based on the amount of savings someone would need to buy the equivalent guaranteed income for the rest of their life. Indexed I may add. And that certainty is what’s worth a fortune, hence why private sector final salary schemes offered their employees phenomenal lump sums to rid them of their liability and no longer offer them.
