| Smoking 10:04 - Jan 8 with 2190 views | Gwyn737 | I missed this but read today that New Zealand are raising the legal age for buying tobacco year on year until it’s totally phased out. Would that work over here? | | | | |

| Smoking on 14:41 - Jan 8 by onehunglow | Personal freedom to smoke . fine .Want to kill yourself fine too but don’t waste my and others money in hospital which can be utilised by people who try to look after their health . Kids have a freedom to be brought up in a fag free environment State control ! Rather ironic that considering the majority on here are socialists. |
The NHS is there for when we need it whatever our lifestyles are. You have to live life like a nun to not burden a health service. We are all guilty of something from the food we eat, toothpaste we use to our dodgy knees from years of running. [Post edited 8 Jan 2023 18:21]

Consider this. Why should someone who has avoided clear health risks be at a disadvantage to someone in a hospital . Are you suggesting it’s ok to basically live as you want recklessly and accept the state to sort you out . Sorry ,we disagree

You have a point. I would like to see who is a bigger burden to the NHS, smokers or the obese.

| Smoking on 10:12 - Jan 8 by STID2017 | I would love to see smoking, whether tobacco or vaping, totally banned worldwide. A senseless act of damaging one's own body to what end ? To a lesser extent energy drink too. An unnecessary evil |
And then alcohol? That does the most harm of anything.

| Smoking on 11:10 - Jan 8 by Joesus_Of_Narbereth | New Zealand seem to have a tighter grip on their borders than we do. Cocaine and heroin is illegal but we still seem to have hundreds of tonnes of the stuff sailing in unchecked from the americas and Asia to places like Liverpool and Glasgow. If we banned tobacco here it would still come in by the shipload. |
Does help that New Zealand is 2500 miles from its nearest neighbour and does not have a short tunnel linking it to Europe There are at least 15 to 20 direct ferries from UK ports to Europe.

I respect your point of view, but most of the people I know that's lived life recklessly are suffering with mental health problems and use drugs and alcohol to mask their trauma. These people deserve to use NHS just as much has the person who's never drunk or smoke brought up in a loving family. Everybody's circumstances are different and a lot health comes down to luck.

Agreed. Then there is drug abuse affecting mental illness. It goes on and on, smoking is just an easy hit, spoken by a lifelong non smoker.

Sadly true. We all do things which impinge on the NHS, be it eating too much, drinking too much, getting injured in stupid sports accidents when we should know better ( doh ! ), driving pollution - emitting vehicles and a hundred and one other things. However smoking is still a disgusting habit that should have died with the Victorians

By now ,we should have learned . All three great uncles of mine were 60 a day men ,Woodbines at that. All encouraged to smoke during war service .it was seen as a pleasure . None reached 30 . All died of emphacaemia .They suffered for their habit terribly . We have a drinking culture that supersedes everything . Blair extended opening hours to see us drink more sensibly believing us the public to be sensible about it. As if. Hospital wards full of both victims of these two. And yet,we excuse it all. Next up please

| Smoking on 11:54 - Jan 8 by max936 | Alcohol be next, I don't smoke never have, but our social liberties are slowly being eroded away, we're watched everywhere we go, we are mostly likely tracked through mobile phones and we just accept these things, constantly controlled in some way or other. That's probably a bit over dramatic, but I'm sure most will know what I mean. |
That really isn't the half of it, glad you're now coming around to the reality of what is going on in the world. When they bring in digital ID and the social credit system there is no going back.

Does that extend to those who 'did the right thing, or so they were told' and then succumbed to adverse reaction? Should they now be denied hospital treatment? I remember the same old rubbish posted on here when people were refusing the big V 'no hospital treatment for those' 'you reap what you sew' yada yada. Whatever happened to humanity. The division and damning of those who oppose a particular narrative is at an all time high. So many people are demonised by people who think they know better without any substance to back their opinion up. What a terrible time to be alive

| Smoking on 11:13 - Jan 14 with 400 views | Sirjohnalot | Smoking kills so many people every year, and causes damage to children who have to live with parents who smoke. it’s becoming less and less socially acceptable, hopefully it’s fade away into obscurity and it will be eventually banned. Good riddance | | | |
