Swansea City v Wrexham and the FA Premier Cup 17th Dec 2025 11:04
The focus this week is the derby game that isn’t one really, the game between two Welsh sides so far apart it should never be classed as one. Both sides have been scratching around the mid to lower half of the Championship all season and nothing it seems will change on current form. 0

Swansea City v Wrexham : Match day thread UPDATED on 00:38 - Dec 20 by RichardO

A bit more composure in the final third wouldn't go amiss when we try and break quickly we try and rush things unable to hold things up until support arrives, there seems very little understanding of how to not snatch at chances, how many of our long ranges shots were too far out to have a realistic chance of beating the goalie, a little more guile to get us closer to and into the box because as we have seen chances come with defected shots and pressure on mediocre players in the box, Vipotnik gets a chance to turn and shoot not as much power as normal but a deflection gets the goal and for the second what appeared an easy ball for the keeper to deal with but with pressure and confusion come a comedy of errors but you have to have players in position to take advantage. We had a couple of note worthy shot the best of which was Stamenic which I think a number of us thought was going in. Widell was excellent, exceptional was Galbraith, strong and robust were Ronald and Inoussa even with Ronald theatrics, I though Inoussa didn't support Tymon well enough allowing the wide man to cut back inside to cross, if Inoussa had got tighter then the player wouldn't had the space to do so, it happened a few times and once led to a pretty poor goal to give away.
Three home wins in a row not complaining so much as looking for things to sharpen up on also nice to see if the ref wasn't going to give us the benefit of the doubt in so many challenges that we matched them in staying stronger on the ball than in the past.
Nice to see a full house it makes a difference.

I just dont see what people see in melker, he just runs around like a headless chicken.

I hardly saw him in the first half, funnily enough we looked better when he went off and alot better when franco went off.

My eldest calls him a Swedish Ollie Cooper.

I think hes spot on, hes a rough diamond though and hopefully matos can smooth him out.

Not trying to bring it down a bit but my missus could have scored our second

But it was the instinct to be there I hope this is that game that turns us around.
Do you think this could be another false dawn?

Idah deserves credit 3 points and an important goal .

Widell is a better ball player than Ollie Cooper who I liked for what he gave the team cover for Manning's runs in his defensive role, winning balls for for the likes of Piroe and Ntcham when asked to play a more forward role, the balance in the team has to be right. I think Widell can run at opposition players with better control and skills to beat defenders than Cooper and he also seems able to now starting to get to grips with the physicality of the Championship thugs that we have to deal with as needed because of poor refereeing, it seems to be the case refs have been told to let the game flow a bit and not fall for the theatrics but it does seem as if some of our players are not as experienced as to when to go down and do it convincingly.
Eom and Cullen may be considered strong subs to bring on but maybe a bit weak to start same as are Yalcoupe and Fulton, I wasn't sure the likes of Widell, Inoussa, Franco and Stamenic were starting to flag a bit and neither was Vipotnik but were the substitutions correct, it would appeared so as the result reflects.

Did Galbraith get away with one on O'Brien thought it could have been a straight red but thankfully a weak referee afraid to give a decision bottled it to give a yellow. Even with our final goal he seemed indecisive to confirm the goal almost looking for a reason off the linesman not to give it,which there wasn't but he still reluctant to acknowledge the goal.

It's about levels. Widell's ultimate level is far above Cooper's IMO.

It's also worth bearing in mind that for the most part he's played out wide for us. He's learning how to play Championship football in the middle, at a pace and intensity he simply would never have experienced before and for my money he's getting better at it.

The way he moves forward with the ball his head is up rather than down. You can see that he's looking for the pass (like on Saturday). I think if we can get our wide players in sync with him then there's goals there.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Easy to say perhaps but we lacking a player to play alongside Galbraith and we need a right back worth his salt to release Galbraith to play in the 10 role, we lack balance in the final third for me, we seem to rely on shots outside the box a lot, the lack of goals scored this season so far tells us this we need more of a threat on goal.

I think Galbraith and therefore us got lucky there. In my opinion could have easily been seen as a red card and he needs to be aware of what he did and how it would have cost us in the game as well as over the Christmas period.

As for Wrexham, no, they didn’t hurt us in a football sense on the night but I thought they came here treating it more of a derby than we did. Their press on our players I thought was very good giving us little to no time in the ball to do our thing. In the end we won by two fortunate goals and we need to be honest about that even though we did try to score more than they did by shooting more often, clearly a Matos tactic.

Let’s hope this will give us the confidence to kick on now and turn some of the defeats into draws and draws into wins.

Lastly the weather didn’t help last night and the ref was bloody awful, though he got the Ronald and Franco decisions spot on.

Never ever a red card, galbraith caught him as he was jumping out of way with his laces and not his studs.

Parkinson is p!sses off as for 1. They lost a game they could have won and 2. One of his best players is out for a while.

I said last season that parkinson would be put of his depth in the championship and last night proved it.

I’ve seen them given and would have had little complaint with the ref if he had given it. But, if you’re right then at least that’s one thing the ref got right last night.

Retrospective ban for McClean hopefully.

Is it a case that nothing can be done retrospectively with regard to Galbraith challenge as the ref gave the yellow card, as for the other incident don't know the circumstances or if the referee was involved if he just missed it then I thought retrospective action can be taken?
Anybodies thoughts on the incident in the middle of the park which left our play in a heap on the floor it looked as if their player after playing the ball went through our player with excessive force but the referee missed it, did Parkinson have anything to say about that incident?

As for O'Brien I didn't think he deserved the boos he received coming onto the pitch and nobody like to see a player so upset because he knows he will miss an amount of playing time.

First half we had a lot of chances to cross the ball first time but took extra touches ,slowed things down and ended up playing it back ,giving Wrexham time to set their defence
We have to cross it into Zan in the danger area quicker when they are running back facing their own goal

Brilliant lower league manager. Wasn’t he in charge of Bradford when we beat them at Wembley? Obviously got something about him he’s had a really good career. But certain tactics work in certain divisions. Colin W ⚓️ is a fine example.

Im away so watched on the i pad. We were the better of 2 average to poor teams. Wrexham were abysmal. We were the only ones who tried to win the game. As for Ronald and Franco, their theatrics are costing us time and time again. Get in to good positions and go down far to easily when if they stayed on their feet we were in promising positions. Conversely, go down to easily when defending ref doesn't give it, defence is under needless pressure.

When Ronald got a boot in the head my immediate thought was thats your own fault for being a fanny. Maybe im a bit old school and if you dive or go down too easily, im going to give you something to go down about.

Wrexham were also well versed in the dark arts. Pulling players back from the side that the ref couldn't see etc.

That said, we are slowly improving, if that game had been in January we would have battered them.

Ive spent some time reading the Wrexham forum, the ellis james video really got to them and they are really not happy with parkinson.

Inoussa looks a talent and needs to play much more than he has, is only fault is letting the ball drift a little away from him and I blame that on lack of game time.
Yalcouye is another quality player.

I thought we were slow to get players into the box in the first half and we had to hold the ball up waiting for support. Vipotnik was in there but little else, this improved in the second half.

Swansea City v Wrexham : Match day thread UPDATED on 15:49 - Dec 20 with 547 viewsjack247

Getting crosses in to Vipotnik isn’t his game. Most centre backs will have the beating of him in the air.

We need that little bit more creativity in the final third and players closer to him to stop him being double marked. We need him with the ball at his feet in and around the edge of the area with enough time and space to get shots away.

Think you are spot on about Parkinson (let’s hope Wrexham keep him in charge)

On another night Galbraith could easily have had a second yellow but it would have been totally inconsistent in the way the game was refereed (the ref let many worse challenges go)

Feel you have been a bit harsh on Widell. Ollie Cooper is the epitome of a headless chicken. Widdell hasn’t lived up to expectations yet but hasn’t really had a run of starts either. He needs to start more games before we can see his potential imo

Fireboy is just another fan and his opinion no worse or better than anyone’s
That says, I feel Widdell has been mucked about
How others have started before him is what should concern us rather than which fan is right or not
He is a great prospect and will be of great value

For what’s worth , O feel very comfortable with Matos
Clearly intelligent and perceptive , it took him just one game to see how vulnerable we are at RB
He dropped the player
When the player was brought on a sub , he immediately basically lost us the game
He hasn’t started since
Matos doesn’t suffer from sentimental crap that affects some
He wants to win and when he does his face is a joy
Compare this to the emotion free Sheehan and Duff and the smug shite of Martin and Williams
We have suffered from horrific coaching since relegation
It’s left its legacy and stench
This is what Mator is remedying
Make no mistake , he keeps us up and I d be amazed if he started next season with us
This fella is going to be noticed big time

Nice to be winning games again but you have to look at the quality of the teams we have beaten. Will be happier when we start beating teams high up the table. Want to see incisive play at a tempo that exposes teams weaknesses not at a pace that exposes ours. As much as I want Galbraith in the centre off midfield the fact we can now compete aerial across the back four is a plus, nice to see Tymon getting the right defensive side of his winger to attack the aerial ball, close enough to intercept passes to them while also not getting caught out with the ball over the top, you must remember that this league has some very good wingers and at times fullbacks need help when they have balls at their feet, in that first twenty minutes I don't think Inoussa got close enough to help Tymon to stop their winger getting crosses in hence the OG, was that the reason Ronald and Inoussa swapped sides? Matos observation and he changed it? Who knows scrappy game in which we had good possession quicker higher up the pitch with supporting players but bad decision making so we're unable to finish move off as we wanted and should have done.
