| Swansea City v West Ham United : Match Thread 13:12 - Oct 14 with 14705 views | ModeratorC | Opta Analyst's supercomputer has given Swansea a 37 per cent chance of winning, while the East London club stand at 36 per cent. The possibility of a draw is 26 per cent, but it could actually be the most likely outcome, given how tight it looks.

| Swansea City v West Ham United : Match Thread on 18:31 - Oct 17 by johnlangy | I thought WH were very professional. Someone mentioned getting the ball into the box. In the second half Welsh was looking to set Tymon off down the wing him being the best crosser of the ball. Whenever he looked to play the ball to him Bowen just moved a yard to his right and the angle was gone. They did the same all over the pitch hence the slow build up at times because the angles were gone. On balance i'd say they deserved it. And allowing for the fact that they're the strongest team in the league i'm not too despondent. We showed why we are where we are. We just have to lift our heads and go again next week. Nice to see a real crowd there today. |
That’s a fair assessment John. But although they closed the angles I still feel we were too slow and measured getting forward. That is our style I know but it would be nice to see us catch teams off guard by going forward quicker. I look at other games in the league and they always seem faster than ours but not of course as technical.

That's how I saw it too. This is the bit that frustrates me as we know we can move the ball quickly and with precision. We didn't deserve to win but we deserved a point and if the ref had given a red for a red challenge we might be looking at whether we deserved three points. Yeo was a handful

Totally agree with you. I thought they were the slightly better team, but there wasn’t much in it and the Swans should have had a draw. That said, I thought we were too slow in our build up play, especially when chasing the game, continuous passing around the back is extremely frustrating. West Ham broke with pace, picked up a lot of secondary ball from challenges in midfield, pressed well and they killed the game with their time wasting. Ronald caused them problems in the first half and that was something we should have done more of in the second half. I thought Vigouroux played well and made a few great saves which kept us in the game. They are a good team, but with a bit guile and application we could have had something out of the game. I think Swansea needn’t be afraid of them in the return match.

Our build up was far to pedestrian far to often for me, there were times when we should have put the peddle down, but resorted to play it safe, pity Ross wasn't fit as I think he could have caused them problems, we've been great so far this season, so no real complaints especially against probably one of the strongest technically sound teams in the league this season.

Looked packed out from what I’ve seen shall we say. It was confirmed as a sell out before the game, they brought a lot and maybe it’s because there wasn’t much segregation I suspect and the previous record was against Liverpool from the PL days right where there might have been more segregation and absentees who were either touts or Jacks who snapped up STs but couldnt attend whereas this was a game where we are flying high and more show up when we are in form. In any event it is great to see the stadium full

Breaking the record attendance by 1, just reminds me of Duplantis who keeps breaking the world record by 1cm at a time. It's done for a reason. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Swansea City v West Ham United : Match Thread on 08:46 - Oct 18 with 1383 views | RichardO | A measured game by Matos playing Ronald as fullback to keep that extra pace on at fullback to keep the option to attack down the wings, playing Stamenic and Fulton to keep us solid in the midfield but that meant we didn't have the driving energy of players through the middle. The game was in the balance but you could see they started to get the upper hand they weathered a bit of the problems that Yeo primarily created for them and then went hunting Stamnic getting caught in possession after he thought he had done enough to evade the first challenge but the second one dispossessed him, a mistake by a deep lying play seen many times before by us. The game still in the balance we pressured them and on another day we would of hit the net instead of hitting the crossbar to get the deserved equaliser. We forced to attack pushed forward leaving spaces which they could have exploited. I would question why you have Vigouroux playing long balls out to the right wing to the smaller Just, who competed well for his size to be fair, instead of your centre forwards after bringing Vipotnik to play alongside Idah. We persevered down the wings and yes did create some chances but didn't reallly threaten enough through the middle to change the point of our attack in those last twenty minutes. Vigouroux's saves kept us in the game. Once West Ham's counter attacks broke down I would have liked to see us get the ball forward quicker where possible. A game kept tight initially but playing in our half too much can and did get countered, we could and should have drawn level then the game would have changed, we rode our luck, may count ourself lucky to not concede more but unlucky to not get an equaliser at the end. I quite like both Stamenic and Fulton but neither offer enough dynamic play through the middle to get us forward quick enough. Being hyper critical I know but even Yeo needs too release the ball earlier at times because he had caused the chaos which left space for others but sadly at times maybe he didn't get the support he need but at times he did and a pass would have opened up space for others. Chances missed in a game that could of easily changed but would of been happy in the end with a draw but West Ham did a job on us in a game in which we couldn't get the upperhand. | | | |

A great synopsis Richard highlighting what most of us are thinking, that we are spending too much time slowing the game down in our own half and not counter attacking quickly enough. This is why we can’t flood the box because opposition defences, especially one as technically adept as West Ham’s can organise themselves at will. Spot on about Yeo as well. There needs to be more work done to ensure when he goes on his run that support not only for the first pass but subsequent passes are there to pull defences apart. I’m disappointed at yesterday’s result as well could have got a point at least but our profligacy in front of goal has cost us. It’s down to lack of composure in my opinion (in training they’d be burying them) but it wasn’t just yesterday. Other games have seen us make similar mistakes preventing a high scoring win. Goal difference is going to be important this year and I don’t believe we are scoring as much as we could / should. I think Matos has a big week ahead of him. If we as supporters are all seeing much the same thing he needs to be aware also. We have another very tough game ahead of us next week and hopefully they will take some confidence from yesterday and learn from their errors and take it to QPR.

Missed the game as no pub here had it on Truly hoped we could beat them Reading text updates though , had the feeling we’d come up short Hope we keep the crowds and really get behind them I’ve always opined we have actually too many midfielders and several will be nowhere near starting ,like Iopendra Pretty piddled off really Reading text comms conjures up images and some days you just know it’s not your day We can do this

On SwansTV comms, Andy Robinson said he could feel an equaliser coming on. I couldn’t, we just weren’t getting into good enough positions and when we did, Ronald at the death, we wasted the chance. He should have gone for it himself but I reckon the way things had gone it would have been saved, gone over or gone wide. As you say, just wasn’t to be.

We had chances. Hit the woodwork, twice they scrambled the ball off the line and it could easily have gone in, then we had several shots off target when it was easier to score. Vigouroux kept us in the game but it my opinion we were not outclassed.

Bit more composure from Cabango from around three yards out twice and we’d be celebrating a good win. Could have just passed it in don’t know why he tried to smash either of them. Those two chances alone were better than anything West Ham had apart from maybe the one on one which the striker should have hit it early and not taken a touch.

Yes, it’s a word I’ve used several times on here which we lacked yesterday - composure. Lack of that stems from hurrying things as we weren’t confident enough to think things through. It’s things like this we must learn from. Look at it again in group feedback, see where you should have composed yourself and learn.

| Swansea City v West Ham United : Match Thread on 14:19 - Oct 17 by KeithHaynes | Stewart injured. |
Apparently not? Ross Stewart was left out of the Swansea City squad for Saturday's defeat to West Ham United because of homegrown player rules. Scotland striker Stewart has managed only two substitute appearances since joining Swansea in August, thanks in part to fitness issues. The 30-year-old was denied the chance to add to that tally this weekend because of the need to include a minimum of seven homegrown players in a matchday squad. A homegrown player is one who spent at least three years with an English or Welsh club before turning 21. Stewart spent his formative years playing non-league football in Scotland, hence he was omitted against West Ham and Vitor Matos instead named Welsh teenager Thomas Woodward on the bench. Swansea were short of homegrown players because Filip Lissah was missing through suspension while defenders Josh Key and Cameron Burgess are both on the injured list. "It's a football decision from the situation that we have with the injuries of Cam and Keysey and Fil's suspension," said Matos. "I don't know why, but the Scottish players don't count. Someone can explain that to me. "Because of that, we needed to make a decision with the short term and that's the decision I made." Woodward, fellow youngster Carter Heywood, Lawrence Vigouroux, Ben Cabango, Josh Tymon, Adam Idah and Andy Fisher were the seven homegrown players in Swansea's squad against West Ham.

Swings and roundabouts on extra time. There was 8 minutes at Millwall, which included 7 and a half minutes for the racial abuse stoppage. Just 30 seconds of 2nd half injury time for all the injuries and substitutions! That suited us as we eased out the 1-0 win. The lady next to me guessed about 6 minutes of injury time, so 5 wasn't too far out, especially as West Ham were on the attack when he blew up.
