Llorente 21:14 - Apr 30 with 4786 viewsLoyal

Had hardly any game time, sometimes not even on the bench. Sold for greed on his and the clubs behalf IMO.

Would he have made a difference to us this season ?

IMO no. We never got a player to take a good set piece, so it would have harder for Llorente to get on anything, it took Clueless a few months before he could even lift the ball into the area from a corner ffs !!

It was good business for us and for him, if he was going to stay then we needed to sign a player to utilize his strengths, i know that probably sounds like rocket science to Huw and Co but there we go .

I would like to think so, but LBH our attacking is slightly lacking for some reason.

Who in our team is semi competent in crossing a ball though ?

Yes I suspect he'd have got goals even without Siggy. Sadly Tammy or JAyew can't head the ball so no effective targets, and VDH, Fernandez and Mawson have missed plenty of sitters Llorente would have buried.

That is true i suppose, i just don't think Llorente would have got anywhere near his target without a dead ball specialist in the team to help him.

We'll never know now that's for sure !

Llorente was also quite decent at holding up the ball, certainly better than Tammy, but maybe not as good as Wilf.
Not that Wilf has played that much though.

And that’s why Llorente probably would have made a difference. We replaced him with Bony who has either been injured or off match fitness for most of the season. We haven’t had a first choice centre forward.

Had Bony stayed fit (I know his recent record made that unlikely). He’d have been better for us than Llorente. Especially without as many crosses and set pieces as last season.

I agree with this. Had Bony been fit he would have been a better fit, but he has been dogged by injury and the club has paid the price having to play without a proven high quality striker for most of the season.
I don’t blame Llorente for moving to Spurs, chance to maybe win something and play in the Champions League. It hasn’t really worked out for him, but hes earned some tiny wedge from it. In hindsight maybe it would have better to have kept him, but it was a good offer for a player whose contract was winding down.

How would he have scored for us with the piss poor skills those around him have?

Plus we still struggled with him anyway- he was no Michu.

A excellent player that gave us something different.
Could have ended his career on a high with us but chose to sell his soul for the filthy luker.
Won't be the first, won't be the last.
His career is nearly over now but he will end it a very rich man which is his objective over and above playing regularly.

He was very good at what he done and in a side that plays to his strengths still has something to offer. We did this from time to time and he scored a few important goals as a result.Ultimately, he's become a player who's used as a plan B for a team with a big name and reputation much like the man himself.

Naughtons 3 long throws v Everton were more effective than all the crosses he's made this season put together

Can't help think about players that left that failed elsewhere. Aside from Joe and Ben, most key players we've sold have been poor - £100m+ for Sinclair, Bony (ManC), Siggy, Ash (Everton) Llornete / Vorm to (Spurs) and Ayew to WH. We've wasted small fortunes but seems to be fairly common in PL.

The difference is, Man City, Spurs and Everton can afford it. From those, only really Siggy was a marquee signing, the rest were big money to us but not to them.

I wouldn’t exclude Joe from that list either. He went to Liverpool and is now at nearly relegated Stoke
