| VE plans then on 22:38 - May 7 with 1429 views | karnataka | Well, I'll speak to my 96 year old mum on the phone and ask her what she was doing 75 years ago when she was just 21 but I already know and it was nothing to do with celebrating as she told me about it many years ago. She was at a court in Manchester to get the official written confirmation of my father's divorce from his first wife so that they could get married as soon as he returned from India where he was stationed at that time. So amongst all the celebrating, life still had to go on for many. | | | |

| VE plans then on 22:45 - May 7 with 1410 views | BrynCartwright | OF course we should remember the massive sacrifice of all our forebears from 75 years ago and before. The level of shite they had to put up with back then is absolutely incomprehensible to us today...and some of us grumble when we have to wait 30 minutes to get into Tesco! We will not be displaying flags or bunting, but will be remembering nevertheless. | |

I'll certainly observe the 2 minute silence - but not on my doorstep - that's just more feckin virtue signalling that I can do without. As for the rest of your list - no chance. Sounds like something disgusting cooked up in the Daily Mail kitchen. My main aim tomorrow is to assiduously avoid all sight and sound of VE Day, which, as usual, like royal weddings & funerals, is turned into some kind of media & state-sponsored charade, where any sentimental old slop will be used to convince us that we're all in this together, that we're all Brits under one flag. None of this flag-waving bollox for me, thank you very much. A very, very long walk out into the sticks might be on the cards...

Agreed Bryn. All too much show under the pretext of remembering our relatives. It’s become media/entertainment driven. Captain Tom bless him. What he did was fantastic but the media yet again have over cooked and ruined it.

Obviously observe the 2 minute silence for all due respect! Daily Mail ad on telly today banging on about how they are the number one selling UK newspaper. Makes my skin crawl. Guess it is only because old people mainly buy newspapers these days. Every twt I've ever seen reading the Mail has been an old cnt! Correct me if I'm wrong.

| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

| VE plans then on 11:40 - May 8 with 1149 views | Pegojack | I shall be raising a heartfelt glass to the enormous sacrifices made by our ancestors in their successful struggle against fascism in WWII, and thanking them for having the good sense to vote in a Labour government immediately afterwards which, amongst other things, created the NHS. As for all the bunting, Vera Lynn, tressle tables in the street, God Save the Queen b*llucks, you can stick it up your orifice. I find it in slightly bad taste when this poxy government has presided over 30k plus deaths of our fellow citizens and it's still going on at a rate of hundreds a day. | | | |

My wife got the sewing machine out yesterday so the front of the house and garden is lined with red, white and blue bunting. Union flags dotted about up and down the street, great to see them used with positive connotations for a change. All the neighbours are having a fish supper in our front gardens at tea time. Thank you.
