Swansea City : Christie wants to play in the Premier League REACTION 22nd May 2022 11:19
Cyrus Christie has stated he wants a return to the premier league, and isn’t afraid to let his last opportunity to play there get in the way. If he gets his wish of course there will be no chance of his signing for Swansea City. And of course Nottingham Forest if they fail in their play off pursuit. 0

It's nice to have dreams but he looked far from Premier League quality for us this season, and if anything we should be looking for better. Agent has probably told him to say something to get tongues wagging and maybe scare someone at this level into making an improved offer.

"There seems to be a general expectation that Nottingham Forest only have to turn up in next weekends play off final at Wembley to win the game"

It would be an improvement on Coopers team last season, who didn't turn up at all.

As for Christie, we should only sign players who are good enough and really want to play for us. Looks to me as if he ticks neither box.

His interest seems to have weened in wanting to be here over the last months, apart from a few occasions, perhaps he doesn't like what's going on behind the scenes, the training the methods of play etc.

When he was available on loan no Premier club looked at him, made him an offer. Maybe it's just more shenanigans to get a better deal?

Maybe we should call his bluff and walk away, look elsewhere.

Perhaps a pay drop from£20k a week to £7k a week is too much. You only get £20k in the Premier league. Christie wants at least £15k I expect. He is not going to get it at Swansea even if the training is great. Perhaps Norwich / Watford.

Think he only signs for Forest if they don't go up. As mentioned he did ok for us and we finished bottom half. Premier league player he is not.

I personally would look elsewhere especially if we keep playing wing back system. He would be solid right back in back four, but he is a million miles away from Premier League.

Of course he wants to play in the Prem he is not good enough to play there on a regular basis but may get the odd game here and there as a third choice full back if there are a lot of injuries.

Didn’t we have more possession and almost the same amount of efforts on goal despite having a man less against a side that just finished mid table in the Premier League without much sweat?

Thought so.

So possession but losing is okay under Cooper, but not under Martin ?
Talk about double standards.
Not sure why you defend Cooper to the nth degree?

They were 2-0 up when we had 11 players.
Plus it was actually 3 shots on target to none.
And he forgets acquisitions this season such as Eriksen.

Thought so.

Ok Ill step inhere

firstly lets answer STID...its not ok to have possesion and lose under Cooper...under Cooper we got to the play offs twice losing to a better team on bith occasions.

whereas, under Martin we have huffed and puffed to finsih in the lower end of "midtable"
With the possesion stats at the final Martin would be fulll of how we dominated miuch as he has this season

Back to defence of Cooper there is so much revisionism of his time here and the final we lost we ost to a better team

We were 1 nil down in 20 mins due to a brain fart from our keeper we wnet two nil down following a brekaway when we had 6 players in the Brentford box and two players on the edge of the box...ayew fell over gave away possesion and Brentofrd broke at pace scoring a second.....if we hadnt turend up or were siing back why did we have 8 players in and around the Brentford box ?

We got reduced to 10 players when Fulton chased the ball ando took the player out whilst we ere deep in the Brentford half......admiyyedly we had 0 shots on target but people forget Ayews header and we did have shot attempts 9 I think....

the way people talk it is as if no one tried and we ambled around all afternoon....

We were there unlike gthis season where the football ofr the most has been uninspiring and lacking in results

Not revisionist.
That suggests having one view at the time and one now ?
My view and that of many others at the time ( during and immediately after the game) was that we didn't compete, look interested and have any shots on target.
Dr P is saying we had lots of possession, yet we actually had no shots.
So Cooper and his team failed on the day.
Martin has been criticised several times last season for having lots of possession yet no shots or very little and losing games.
The similarities are uncanny, yet Martin is criticised but not Cooper ?
If you are going to criticise one then you must criticize the other.
Dr P is being obtuse - again.

I get it .....there have been many posts how we seemed to turn up on the day, yet Brentfords second goal came as a result of an attack by us breaking down when we had six players in their box and two sittin goutsie....that doesnt sound like a team not trying to compete and if that was the case Fulton would never had been sent off as what was he doing when he made that rackle but competing?

the issue with Martin is that so much hype was posted how under him things were better yet in reality they arent.....yes we have enjoyed lois of possesion but that has not turned into results,

We lost to a better side on the day....it has been written in here how had we been promoted with the team playing that final it would have been a disaster....yet virtually the same team well a team with 8 of the 11 who beat us beat Arsenal 2 nil in the opening game of the PL season

Cooper a rookine manager in his first aesson as a snior manager yet alone in the Championship got us to the play offs, in his second season he took us to the final....along the way I criticised him a few times ....but yet he got us to the final.

Martin has championed possesion all season yet has yilded no result.

Its gone now ...Cooper in his third season is agin in the playoffs.....whether this time his side wins remains to be seen.....yet with no preseason and joiing what 7 games in to the season he has taken his side from bottom of the league to the play off finlas meanwhile what has our erstwhile manager achieved?
We were asked/told to be patient as it was a process a season of transition only now he is saying next season he plans to start with a different formation?...lets try to forget Cooper he is a past manager..though I expect the boards will be alight in satuday whichver way the result goes.......but lets start focusing on our current manager.....Cooper failure with possession was in one game last season.....not multiple times as this season under Martin
