I was told a couple of weeks ago that if we were top six this season he would be offered one. The same person who told me he would definitely not be sacked last season and highly unlikely this season. Incidentally when I asked if someone had had a word in his year regarding the tweak in style. Laughing he said you are joking.

Makes sense.
Obviously the Norwich situation may persuade them to act sooner than planned ?

Too soon.

Wasn't that long ago there were serious rumblings against him. I'd want to know for sure that he's finally learned his lessons before we go tying ourselves in even further. Next summer we can start talking.

A new contract would suit the club as well as Martin he gets an increase in wage and a larger pay off if they sack him and if he gets poached the club can increase his compensation package.
Big win for Martin I agree, but the club may get more from the recruiting club, I'd have thought.

Agreed, he needs to prove he can maintain this style of play for a serious amount of time.

I’m yet to see or hear anything to convince me he’s done it under his own volition, to the point he appears to deny he’s even changed anything. To me that suggests he will be going back to it shortly and trying to pretend we got to where we were with it.

It’s a no from me currently, ask again in Jan/Feb and I may be all for it.

Nah.

If we paid £400k for him in the first place the release clause would have to be in the seven figure range, which should be more than enough to replace him with.

Given how wobbly we've been for a good 80% of his tenure so far it's simply not in our interests to extend at this point.

As in who has instructed the change?

No idea, there is silence on the matter. Impossible to say what or who has sparked the sudden and dramatic turnaround in philosophy.

Martin insists nothing has changed. Had he been the mastermind behind it, logic would state he would be shouting it from the rooftops as opposed to denying its happened.

Until he comes out and recognises the change and explains the reasoning behind it, it’s all a guessing game as to the motivation and personnel behind it. Considering his devotion to the old style, my guess is the change was enforced as opposed to something he wanted to overhaul.

Time will tell on that front as the pressure comes off him. If he sticks with it then maybe it was his wishes after all, but my overriding fear is now we are in the clear he will revert back to the old ways until he needs some breathing room again and brings it back, in a similar pattern to what we saw last term.

No-one has instructed any change.

What's your opinion on those moon landings?

your possibly right no one instructed him to make a change maybe someone advised him his job was under threat unless there was a turnaround in results who knows.

That’s your guess of course, seems unlikely considering how much he was devoted to that style though.

As vetch says, whether he was told to scrap it or told in a roundabout way that his job was on the line - which then forced his hand… either way doesn’t fill me with confidence that he brought about this change without prompt.

Which creates a bit of an issue for me because just like last season I expect he will return to it once he has got breathing room.

I would say believing in a Moon Landing conspiracy is more in alignment with those claiming he’s had some sort of epiphany and the style he’s championed for 3 and a half years scrapped overnight in a Christmas Carol type visit from a Ghost of the Future.

Personally if we remain unbeaten up to the World Cup and Norwich's form continues to dip, then can see moves being made for him.
Don't think Norwich will be alone either.
After he has gone and is successful elsewhere maybe those who doubt his ability will change their opinion ?
I doubt it though

No opinions will be changed because comments are made about what has been, not what may come.

If he does well and plays sensibly then people will like him, if he doesn’t then people won’t.

It’s down to him, not us.

Are people genuinely claiming that RM has altered the process under orders? Oh my.

What is more likely?

A. Martin finally realised after a year of dogmatism that what he was insisting upon wasn't working and that he had to change his system, but is a bit sheepish about it so doesn't want to come out and admit that so is basically claiming that this was the end plan all along, or;

B. He's been instructed from above (who would have the knowledge or authority to do so remains unclear) to change his entire professional outlook when no such thing previously happened in the more than a year he's been here already. Not only that, apparently he's been ordered to change his keeper. He's gone along with this entirely peacefully and quietly, which is entirely in line with the placid, non-antagonistic approach he's shown to others previously, mostly players.

If you genuinely believe that "B" is even remotely the most likely scenario, then I've got some magic beans to sell you.
