Yates is getting a lot of grief on here but he is top scorer. The object of football is not to play pretty patterns and makes tackles but it is to score more goals than your opponent.
I do not recall Michael Owen of Robbie Fowler contributing to flowing moves or muscling centre backs off the ball.
It is true the Yates did not do a lot v Morcambe but when he got his chance he buried it emphatically. I wonder if Arsenal would have beaten Liverpool if Yates was in place of the Brasil no 9? Probably not but worth considering. They missed a hatfull of chances. Yates had one and took it.
I sick of seeing Swansea players training all week for hours on end then hitting the ball straight at the keeper.
Ollie Cooper was very busy v MFC getting stuck in. Nice skills. For him to kick on and establish himself he needs to shoot and score more. When he gets i his chance he has to bury it not fluff his lines. I am sure he can do it.
Williams has talked about more box interventions. In the red zone there is no room for indecision. Yates will score more with Williams you would think. I believe he has been told to stay close to goal. |  |

I think as a club we have to bite the bullet and accept we have chucked £2million down the toilet (on the basis, however unlikely, that somewhere there is a club willing to blow up to 500k on him)
He is weak on the ball, slow, shows no aptitude or willingness to create space for himself. All his goals this season have been a result of him being in the wrong place at the right time after absolute howlers by opposition defenders - Saturday was a classic example. Our Ukranian import must be diabolical if he's not a better option than Yates. | | | |

Some blame Martin, some blame Whittaker, some even blame Cooper. The kid had talent & an eye for goal that was obvious. It all came with an attitude though. He needed love and support but never got what he thought he deserved, but probably got what he deserved due to his attitude. Write this one off as poorly managed by the club & hope he doesn’t return to haunt us like too many of our ex players do |  | | |

Correct, we usually have a slow build up to attacking. Yates does not hold the ball up well, he is not robust enough with defenders, his movement and link up play is weak. He may be a reasonable finisher but we need someone up from who can contribute to our patient play.
If we had flying wingers and a decent number 10 Yates may be a better fit, but we don't. |  |

That's a decent return tbf, but we need to be making chances for him. If we continue to not do that then its not worth him playing, he's not going to create much himself. Really hoping Grimes pushes on and gets further the field. Let's get the ball out wide and fizz those crosses in, low and hard between the defenders and keeper. |  | | |

I agree we seem to have brought someone who does not fit the way we play, maybe we thought he could adapt. Scotland was a much better type of player; strong, decent hold up play and a good finisher. | |
