Welsh homes for Welsh people 21:28 - Jun 1 with 5825 viewstrampie

I noticed today a big banner draped over a bridge over the the M4 motorway close to the Llanelli turning saying "Welsh homes for Welsh people".

House prices going up big time, lots of second homes in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire and now there are banners going up.

Continually being banned by Planet Swans for Porthcawl and then being reinstated.

I heard that occupancy rates at Welsh holiday cottages are at a record high. As 80% of these cottages are owned by Welsh residents it means tourism is booming, jobs increasing and profits staying in Wales.

Southern Englanders are buying an awful lot of homes around these parts.

I do feel sorry for local youngsters who have no chance getting on to the property ladder.
A lot end up in dodgy flats.

Britain is a free country you can buy houses any where in the UK. Why has the Welsh government built so few social houses in the last 20.years which had resulted in a shortage of affordable houses.

I think there was some policy from central government that restricted the building of social housing by local authorities.

The Welsh nationalists soon face running the risk of being regarded as one of the most racist political groups in UK history.

Welsh homes for Welsh people...

Welsh jobs for Welsh people...

It's all very "one people, one empire, one country"...

It's quite terrifying how their racism is being accepted so casually.

Just seen this on the Welsh BBC News:

Two out of the 50 properties in seaside village Cwm-yr-Eglwys, Pembrokeshire, have permanent residents.

A third is on the market for more than £1m and locals say they are being priced out of the market.

So is it wrong for English to buy these homes as a 2nd or 3rd property and let them out and not Welsh people to do exactly the same thing. Last summer I was talking to someone in Llangrannog and he had 2 properties in the village that he rented out. He said normally the rental more than covered the mortgages and left him with a nice profit/wage. He was struggling during the lockdown and applying for the government grants.

So is one wrong both wrong or neither.

No sure about there being policies that restrict building social housing

Under labour 19,000 houses per year were built either for social housing or by housing associations. Under the Conservatives 26,500 houses per year were built by either for social housing or by housing associations.
These are England only figures as housing matters are fully devolved in Scotland, Wales and NI.

There is a cap on borrowing to build houses, councils simply don’t have the money.

Both Wales and Scotland have the power to raise income tax so they don't need to borrow money they could finance it from tax.

That's not how the system works. Govts have to borrow to finance, they don't like to increase taxes. Higher taxation would dampen down the economy so other areas would suffer.Taxation alone doesn't raise enough to finance a country that's why we have deficits etc

Yes but it's not enough.

Thsi raising taxes thing, we need more houses for the young people, if the Senedd borrowed money to build affordable housing it wouldn't matter because locals would still be outbid. Unless there was a rule that a certain percentage had to be sold to local first time buyers, could that even be done?

Thiis the problem with partial devolution. There is a massive grey area that Westminster won't do anything about and the Senedd CAN'T do anything about. It needs to change.

Surely a socialist policy to make the wealthy pay more tax for to build houses for those who cannot afford to buy.
