Her boss is none other than...... Boris Johnson.

I can see early retirement on a huge pension for her.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Its simply not independent.

This will end up with ‘errors of judgement’, ‘cant be certain’ and ‘difficult to be sure that’ bollox.

We all know he lied and lied - and has broken both the ministerial code and the law.

Anything other than his immediate removal from office, and an investigation by the Met will be a whitewash.

Sue Grey has been used as a human shield.

I agree with you, but she’s in a tough spot. There is no way the report should be going straight to the PM, it should be going to a completely independent party such as a regulator.
Boris was judge and jury and ignored the findings in the Patel investigation, the rules have to change and it can’t be allowed to happen in the future.

The way Boris etc have reiterated wait for Sue Gray....I suspect they are confident he will be exonerated. If for some reason it does go against him and he tries to change or bury it, she could walk and there’d be an even bigger outrage. With the leaking of information / briefing of journalists etc, it’s clear there’s lots of skullduggery taking place behind the scenes.

Nothing less than full transparency is required. Not sure if Cummins has finished yet either.

I've worked in several central government departments, there are some very good senior civil servants, who despite the interference of ministers, do a fantastic job at keeping the country running and have the integrity you would expect of someone in those roles.

True, like the ones who stood up to Patels bullying.

But Johnson picked her so he must be confident she will water it down to the point of it being worthless. See the recent report on the wall paper gate. Whitewashed. Again appointed by Johnson to investigate Johnson. Thats the worry.

Wait for the report before pre judgment.
I expect it to say for the "garden party". The garden is often used as a place of work and this was the case at the time. Mr Johnson went out to give his staff a pep talk and thank them for all their hard work during difficult times. He then returned indoors. Boris gets off the person who sent out the invitations gets moved sideways. Totally wrong and everything that is bad about politics.

I feel sorry for her as it's a tough position to be in but that is part of her job.

On the plus side it's a win-win for Labour.

Outcome 1: She finds the rules were broken - Boris lied and has to resign
Outcome 2: She finds no rules were broken - The party is covering up the truth

Either way, the british public knows that No10 broke covid rules, you don't need an investigation to prove it. Outcome 2 will just confirm that the conservative leadership have zero respect for the public which many people will remember at upcoming elections

It's going one of two ways, one of them sees Gray end up in the Lords, the other one sees her being derided by the cabinet and accused of all sorts!

Ok it could go a different way but you get my drift. Bojo wants to see it first so he can prepare his defence or prepare the argument to justify the conclusions.

Most of us have already decided how we feel based on what's public knowledge. Bojo though, he doesn't care about anything other than clinging onto his position.

Whatever the outcome of the report I hope there's enough letters in to force a no confidence vote.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I was a meeting last with an ex-Westminster civil servant who worked with Sue Gray.

He said she is a formidable, sharp-minded and honourable person.

Having said that, his prediction was that the report will be daming but there will be some kind of caveat saying that nothing was technically illegal.

We'll have to wait and see.

Bojo will be hoping for a Chilcott style outcome, an admission that "technically" rules were broken but not any laws, not knowingly anyway.

Most of us already think any other outcome than Bojo being forced to leave is a cover up but hey, the government are good at ignoring public feeling, at saying the public want something we don't want at all and going with it.

Pretty sure they’re already priming the public ready for the findings of the investigation to be sealed and not in the public interests. Some snippets will be released but Boris will choose to bury this and ride out the hale storm that follows until the public lose interest.

Johnson will ride this out. The public gaze is already shifting away from lockdown parties to the Ukrainian border. The Grey Enquiry is being rapidly overtaken by events before it has published its findings.

What Downing Street aides may or may not have done in the garden hardly matters by comparison.

I think you will find Labour supporters will say he must go.

Tories will gloss over it and push for him to stay.

The middle ground will say they want him to go, but if he doesn't its not the end of the world.

It all depends on your political persuasion. You don't always get what you want in life it doesn't matter how loud you shout. I still think its a 50/50 call.

Meh, the legality issue is largely irrelevant. Breaking a few covid rules isn’t the crime of the century as a stand-alone offence and the most they can get in reality is a small fine. The issue here is a moral one. To have the gall to stand there night after night at that podium and tell people up and down the country they aren’t allowed to do stuff when they themselves were organising that very same thing is beyond reproach.

If she says the rules were broke but no laws then it’s the same result for me. He has to go. And all involved in the party/work event should be sacked immediately as well.

I’m in the middle ground. Little point in him going at the moment imo, not that I ever wanted him there in the first place. I think it’s incorrect to say Boris represents the middle ground. He’s a complex problem - he’s both liberal and authoritarian, populist in that he tells voters what they want to hear rather than being committed to policy, and a europhile that led the charge for Brexit, purely as a means of grabbing power. He completely and utterly exposed for what he is right now but he will fight and protect himself at the expense of all others so the Tories are going to implode with infighting at some point soon. Only the stupidest of stupid people can’t see what he is.

I think your description of Boris is accurate. There’s no doubt Boris’s agenda is Boris.

The comments sections on the Daily Mail articles covering these parties is scathing, for a very pro Conservative newspaper I was surprised by the venom of the attacks. He’ll try to bury the report, but it just may trigger a huge backlash in the Tory constituencies and MP’s inboxes May go in to melt down.
