| Expectations for the rest of the season 20:03 - Nov 9 with 16874 views | Rangersw12 | What are everyone's expectations now that we a quarter a way through the season ? For me personally, I think we very much underperforming, players from last season regressing with Dunne & Varane being the biggest culprits. We finally have a bit of pace in the squad and also a couple of decent strikers but we just never seem to improve and now look the most unfit squad in the league . This is a very poor Championship ( look at the top 10 ) yet other clubs with similar budgets are out performing us again . We should easily be top 10 this with an outside chance of pushing for the play offs but at the moment we seem way off . [Post edited 9 Nov 20:04]

Building a double barrelled/three initialled back five ! Dreams do come true. My expectations have gone up, we will be classier in January.
| Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Not if the Blades recall RND. Wilder was asked about this when we played them and said he's happy enough for now for RND to remain with us: https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/qpr-rhys-norrington-da "Speaking recently, Blades boss Chris Wilder appeared to suggest that the defender would not be recalled in January, despite a well-publicised desire to freshen up the squad he reinherited from Selles earlier this year, and Frenchman Stéphan has enjoyed working with him.
| Expectations for the rest of the season on 09:15 - Nov 11 with 1948 views | stevec | As long as we try to play a style of football we’re largely incapable of carrying out then we’ll be flirting with the wrong end of the table. Back four and centre mid two aren’t any good at playing out from the back. On the rare occasions they manage to shuffle the ball into the other half without being dispossessed, the midgets will be heavily marked and subsequently bustled off the ball. Burrell or whoever drew the centre forward short straw, will run around gasping for air and subsequently startled if presented with a scoring chance. The fella has risen above that so far, with the rare opportunities he’s given, but the poor sod will eventually weaken from the paucity of active involvement. Until we bin all this, play a regular back four and midfield three primarily versed in defending our own goal whilst a front ‘any three from about ten’ go through the tombola until we come up with a trio who can create and score goals without the constant mindset of having to defend the midfield two from their deficiencies, it’ll just be more of the same. | | | |
| Expectations for the rest of the season on 09:27 - Nov 11 with 1922 views | thehat | I just hope we can stay away from trouble which we should be able to do with this squad. A better manager would probably get us into the top ten. | | | |
| Expectations for the rest of the season on 09:52 - Nov 11 with 1871 views | numptydumpty | I think 12th is realistic and par for this squad, we have currently. Got a feeling, we will disappoint, to a level, that we will finish between 17th to 19th. I admit we possess a lot of decent players, but I can't help thinking, if we knew what our first eleven was, and played that team unless there were injuries, would be the way to go. Constant changes has meant no player knows whether in the next game, he is on the teamsheet. With all squad players having some involvement, does keep the whole squad reasonably happy, but I just think players' understandings of where and what others are doing, will not be able to be improved with this strategy in place. Therefore, I think it will be this 'tinkering', that will cause us to under achieve !! [Post edited 11 Nov 9:58]

Saito and Madsen have regressed since Chair was restored to the team. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Wilder has hardly picked RND over the last few years so obviously doesn’t rate him much. He’s only 26 and has been one of our better players this season and probably our most consistent one so I hope we sign him permanently in January.

I hope you're right. It will give us a headache for the second half of the season if the Blades do recall RND.

We're going for Chair to blame for that are we? Chaos theory. Is he the reason Varane's playing like this? Kone going backwards?

It's very unfortunate timing with Chair coming back into the team after injury.

Yes I would say it’s a factor. Madsen’s dead ball delivery is better than Chair’s IMO but now he has to play second fiddle and his impact on games has diminished accordingly.

Not fair in the slightest. Saito was very up and down last season, so no real change. Madsen? Hmm, maybe because they have no other CM who can pass resulting in him becoming undropable. Still, if you decide to go with a midfield of Varane, Madsen, Morgan and Tuck, but then panic after game 3 and jettison one out on loan, drop the other youngster and then sign Varane/Field clone Hayden..... what do you expect?

Madsen's impact on games has gone back to where it was the month before last, and had been for the previous 12 months since he got here. Saito's been one good performance followed by one anonymous performance since he got here.

Tuck? That seems highly unlikely. The only game he's even been in the squad for was Plymouth.

We have players new to the division who clearly have ability but its going to be up and down for a while. Mid table. As you were. What would we have given at the start of the season for being 9 clear of the bottom 3 at this stage?

Well said. The team needs to be pivoted around Chair, despite his well-publicised flaws.

Very much so. Why was no CM signed until Hayden, because the decision had already been taken to go with the players they had.

| Expectations for the rest of the season on 07:51 - Nov 12 with 798 views | WorthingR | Morning all! First post, long time lurker here, so though I'd finally join. I think we'll end up around mid-table. The leaky defence and overall inconsistency will mean we'll in stuck in that middle pack. I think Stephan is still trying to work out how to get Kone and Burrell in the team at the same time. Clearly he wants them as a front two, but that leaves central midfield understaffed, but playing Kone deeper, or Burrell out wide, is not ideal either. We'll likely see different iterations of this until the end of the season. Mbengue at RB and Dunne at CB makes a lot of sense, I hope we see that again. Team is a big improvement over last season, though. So we're moving in the right direction, albeit slowly. | | | |
