On Vale’s Schrodinger’s chip (weak and great at the same time), it looked like Burrell was shoved off it, and it certainly nailed Schmidt to the line because he would never have got there ahead of him. Burrell couldn’t have got much power on it but it kept the keeper on his heels and let Chair fill the little gap in front of him.

Great though it was see Illy back and sparking, I was thrilled to have JCS back full time. He looks so strong at this level.

Great stuff, a joint biggest win at Fratton Park as well and first win on the opening day since 2020/21.

All very positive and great to see the players fit and ready for the new season, a stark difference from last season when we looked dead after an hour. A real chance to make a special start to the season given the fixtures coming up.

Another consideration as to why Mbengue has his best game to date (or one of them anyway) is Lamptey's arrival. He wants to keep his place and is reacting in the right manner to Lamptey's coming in. Have quality players not only adds important depth to the squad but drives everybody on which can only benefit the team

It’s all about keeping this team fit this season.

Two solid options in almost every position now. Rotate carefully and be smarter in the three game weeks and we may do something special.

Shame about Kemper and shame Madsen already missed a game, so reminders to be on top of managing fitness.

Team looks very “on it”, very hungry; Stephan demanding a fourth was so out of character and absolutely a huge take away for me on the targets this season.

I am away so watched the game on a stream. Bashed up for the first 25 minutes but a great recovery from then on. As mentioned by others in the comments so pleasing to see the fitness of the players following the last two seasons pre-season shambles.

Love it that Chair is back, yet you can see that he's not 100% after all his injury problems.
When he is 100% and now surrounded by better players I think he could terrorise the opposition this season.

Why did some think that he wasn't good enough anymore? Fools.

Still need one more CM as we shouldn't be having to play Edwards there.
