Run in the Cup or Play-Offs 23:28 - Feb 11 with 2090 viewsmarchamjack

It’s an easy one for me as I don’t think we’re good enough to make the play-offs, even though I’d love us too, but I think this season being realistic, we could certainly make the QFs and maybe even the Semis depending on the draw.

So, love a Cup run to at least Semis this year and if we get there, we’ll who knows, the Final !

Imagine us in the Cup Final, yes please this season for me

Oh,..Dave, what's occuring?

Play-offs.

It’s the only option out of the two that gives us the most realistic chance of sorting our finances out quickly. Even if we won the Cup, which is unlikely, the prize money is minimal.

This is the sad reality of modern football and the practicality of cash over prestige. Would have been a different answer if you had asked me 10-15 years ago however.

Getting to cup final did nothing (of note) for milwall in '04.

2016 and 1990 (both v Man Utd) Crystal Palace
2014 (v Arsenal) Hull City
2011 (v Man City) Stoke City
2004 (v Man Utd) Millwall
1997 (v Chelsea) Middlesbrough
1984 (v Everton) Watford
1983 (v Man Utd) Brighton & Hove Albion
1982 (v Tottenham) Queens Park Rangers
1975 (v West Ham) Fulham
1969, 1963, 1961 & 1949 Leicester City
1959 (v Nottm Forest) Luton Town
1956 (v Man City) and 1931 (v West Brom) Birmingham City
1909 (v Man Utd) Bristol City
1885 and 1884 (both v Blackburn) Queen's Park

Teams who have got to the final and never won.

Win the fa cup over play offs, every day of the week.

don't forget a cup win also means playing European football next season would be a great adventure but would need a bigger squad to cope

Good cup run for me. I agree with the OP. Would be brilliant to finally do something significant in the FA Cup as it's our one downfall on our overall record if you think about it. An appearance in the Final would be superb even though it's unrealistic to expect us to win. At least at this point it is unrealistic. But this season's FA Cup is starting to resemble 2008 when Portsmouth,Cardiff, Barnsley and WBA made the semi-finals.

Why would the play offs be an option if we aren't good enough to get there ?

Wembley every time.

Exactly.
Life and football are all about moments you will always remember. A cup final, win or lose, would always be one of those moments.

I see no reason Ed, barring injuries, why we cant win on Sunday, get a decent home draw in the quarters, and get to the semi final. Then anything can happen.
As for the league, everyone is taking points off each other, so continue this good run and you never know.
Heres hoping.

Big game is Brentford.

Win and we will all start opening our eyes wider on the cup.

Lose and our mind will turn to the play offs, as faint as it will be mind.

Heart says cup, head says League.

Circa £100M for being in the PL, £3.5M for winning the FA Cup. It’s the reason that the Cup has lost its attraction and clubs play weakened teams. That and the need to give some ludicrously overpaid reserves some game time for PL clubs.
