There has been talk this morning that a 18 million bid has been accepted from Sheffield United? I wonder how true this is? Is anyone able to shed some light. We will see at 2pm today when the team sheet is published.

Very proud to be voted Planet Swans Poster of the Year 2017 by my fellow posters. Especially on a site that nearly had 20 million impressions last year.

The one thing I learned from the Siggy sale that timing was everything. The money is irrelevant if it's too late to use it this window.

SPOT. ON.

Also, let's be fair - where did that £45 million go?

An irreplaceable player and so it proved to be.

Yes - I’ve already said similar in my post above, which you probably didn’t see before posting.

The big takeaway, is for a few years, those of us, including the Trust, calling for Jenkins to be replaced, were told we could never find anyone who could do a better job. And yet we have. Funny that.

If only the club had listened to the Trust’s calls for him to be replaced when first made, we possibly would be nowhere near this position now.

When you say 'we' you mean the controlling shareholders and Chris Pearlman.

PL income wasn’t £120m. We received c. £98.5m in our last season.

You’re right to point out the significant drop in total income, however. But large chunks of that were recovered by significant numbers of player sales last summer and also relegation clauses in contracts.

Plus more departures this summer of out of contract players (Bony, Fer, Olsson) and the sale of James has had another big impact. Plus Jordan Ayew has gone, shifting another expensive player.

The issue is our failure so far, to offload the others we were hoping to leave (Ayew, Montero, Baston). For all the talk of how well it’s going, and some aspects of club management have seen a pleasing improvement, that’s quite alarming at the moment.

If McBurnie goes, it will be less as a function of filling the premier league hole and more as a means of making up for us not being able to get rid of people that were the top of this summer’s ‘to do’ list. Hopefully we will get shot of Ayew and Montero (in particular) before the summer comes to a close, but we will need to move sharply to bring in even the squad reinforcements that were deemed essential before McBurnie’s departure was considered likely.

If we sell McBurnie for £20m is it then necessary to offload Baston? Particularly as we won't be recouping anything near his whole wages even if we manage to loan him out.

The yanks are doing what scam hammam did to us.
Milking money away whilst paying the minimum payments towards the debt of the club..
If they do sell your club I bet it will come with the debts like when Tan bought us.

No, I meant the people saying it.

There were lots of calls for his removal and the answer was often - name someone who can do better.

E20 was the one who constantly had Jenkins back there, think Birch has already proven how much more competent he is.

Another E20 classic to put on the list, pass me another page please

2017/18
Income from transfers - £72.99 million
Outgoing for transfers £66.05 million

Profit £6.94 million ... hang on fees + increased wages for Clucas, Bony, Mesa, Sanches c £19 million if memory serves but it was more Han £6.94 million.

Didn't Sign leave with nearly three weeks of the window to go?

Joe Rodons brother posted a picture of him and Oli on the lash earlier but was deleted by all accounts. I know for a fact he was on it Saturday and last night, if he’s on it now then he’s clearly not training tomorrow.

The fact that we didn't actually end up paying close to 16m for Clucas, also of the 20m we paid for Ayew, 8m was still owed to us by WHU from the original transfer.

Why do you think we ended up going back in for players we sold a few years previous?

A £12m transfer which includes writing off an £8m debt isn’t massively different from a £20m transfer.

I've already mentioned this but you think if Birch succeeds in selling James and McBurnie and leaves us with J. Ayew, Montero, etc that he's done a great job, yeah?

Righto.

And brought in a proper head of recruitment

And been more open in a few months than Jenkins in years.

Long way to go but in terms of competence, for my money, he's already a big step up to the cowboy roofer, his vending machine ranch-hand and the Dutch cap.

He’s got a fair point. It’s easy to sell players clubs want to buy. Andre Ayew and co are a bigger challenge.

I think Birch has done well so far though.

It is pretty tough to sell something absolutely nobody wants to buy, I suppose.
