Matt Grimes Interesting Stat 00:25 - Jan 30 with 2177 viewsjackharris

He wouldn’t be my choice of captain, (Ayew and VDH) but it is nice to see he is winning his fair share of tackles this season. He was immense last season. Hasn’t hit near that standard this season.

Very proud to be voted Planet Swans Poster of the Year 2017 by my fellow posters. Especially on a site that nearly had 20 million impressions last year.

IMO stats don't really tell a true picture.

He's also near the top for successful forward passes.

He’s the best in the league at doing unique open play sequences too, whatever they are.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
Poll: Should Dippy Drakeford do us all a massive favour and just bog off?

Consistently undervalued by our fans who call him lightweight and would prefer someone who looks like a classic enforcer/thug in our midfield instead. Individually Grimes' defensive contribution as been among the best in the division since he nailed down his place, but structurally we've taken a step back under Cooper.

There are still some around that claim we miss Fer's "presence" and think Fulton adds "steel" and "does the dirty side of the game in terms of making the challenges", while Grimes does "none of that". Clowns.

So crap that even sky pundits were praising how he was "outstanding, running the show" in the first half against Stoke's Joe Allen et al.

Deserves a break from so much criticism. As do most of our hard working young players.

Considering the role in which he is used, I'm surprised he spends sufficient time in the oppo half to play enough passes to be so high in that list but it does suggest that he'd be better used further forward than sitting in front of the back 4. But then most of us know that already and that we've needed a proper DMF for a while to free MG to play in a more forward role.

Grimes is excellent.

Fulton has started employing that thing that Ki used to do where he stands behind an opposition player when we are in possession, otherwise known as hiding. I don't think he does it for the same reason as Ki, ie, he's not a complete shithouse, in fact he can be quite decent at times, he's just lacking a little bit upstairs and his intuitive movement off the ball is a bit 'off'.

Grimes would benefit massively from some of our other midfielders getting a bit closer so that he doesn't look like such a tw@t with his passes sometimes. Not his fault.

Those stats are surely made up

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Grimes gets some unwarranted criticism, mainly from people who've never kicked a ball. He does a good job and its backed up by stats. Other good reliable pros like Naughton and Routledge for example also attract similar stick unnecessarily at times.

There's a bunch of companies around now that have people counting all sorts of stuff and then selling the data back to clubs/other companies/the general public. Our own club now pays a group of people that 12 months ago were just twitter analysts with subscriptions to Wyscout's raw data.

There's money in the analysis business.

I don’t think he got much if any unwarranted criticism last season when he won player of the year and he might just have had some this season because he’s had some poor games.
Not recently of course because he’s playing quite well but I wouldn’t expect thick twáts like you to understand that.

Plus when you have an outlet like Dan James to receive a sweet left foot pass it always looks good

Cracking place Loh. I used to go down there regularly on holiday when I was a kid. Porthcurno is a lovely beach too. That whole stretch, especially when you go further north from Lands End is some on the UK's finest coastline (and interesting too with all the industrial history).

Well said Darran,

Played well recently, but the criticism earlier in the season was warranted.
