That’s exactly what I was referring to yesterday, when I said that the TOTAL ‘excess deaths‘ figure was the one to look at, irrespective of what was marked on certificates. That number is published each Tuesday. The week I mentioned as most recent (April 3rd) showed 6,000 excess deaths. Only c. 3,700 had Covid as reason. But many others must be virus related. Whether from the virus, with the virus or because treatment does other things is not being received due to the virus. To be honest, this crisis shows what has being going on in the care sector for years and years. Very little focus on people and outcomes once people are in some of these places. Some are fantastic, but some really are not. The NHS and social care HAS to be joined up as one going forward. Not only for this pandemic but in general.

My understanding is, private care homes are responsible for supplying their own PPE

Trying to be too clever and how patronising to say we needed to be more "adult" They are getting very defensive now and Williamson was straight from IKEA - flat and wooden. She also said no need to "Test, test, test". I bet she has! [Post edited 20 Apr 2020 7:47]

Thank you Lisa. I agree about Gavin - moron. No, if you click the link you will see the lady medical person say that the UK govts approach has been ‘an international exemplar’. Yes really. Maybe she means how not to do it ?

| Matt Hancock now says - on 13:53 - Apr 21 with 1025 views | 3swan | I have heard from a very reliable source that the criteria is only testing front line staff if showing symptoms or self isolating due to a member of the household having symptoms. This has now included Care workers, police and fire & rescue. The criteria will have to change as test capacity isn't being used now putting aside the 100,000 test aim. | | | |

They may be infecting each other when they take the PPE off to do paperwork or have breaks. As I doubt nurses will cough or sneeze over each other and surfaces in hospitals are regularly cleaned and hands washed, the virus must be transmitted through the air, possibly just by breathing.

An airborne virus can be spread by breathing. Maybe the PPE isn't good enough or staff aren't following safety protocols well enough. Who knows. I watched 'Contagion' today, it is scarily predicitve, highlighting how easily a virus can be spread and it was accurate right down to the USA using mass graves. I stopped watching the daily briefings, fed up of bad news and what seems like a never ending BS fest. Maybe I should have been condemning the government earlier, along with others on here but, it wouldn't have changed anything and anyway, would Labour have done any better? I guess that's the outcome when you've lost faith in most of our politicians. Give the current incumbents the benefit of the doubt and live with the consequences. If Starmer had been in place earlier things would have been different, maybe?

I'm not saying that you are wrong but you CANNOT say that your statement is correct. Perhaps it was beacause of this... "On 16 March, the country closed its borders, forbade the entry of foreigners and issued a nationwide curfew. While originally planned until 24 March, the measures were later extended until 1 April and then again until the end of State of Emergency which was extended by the Chamber of Deputies until 30 April 2020." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_coronavirus_pandemic_in_the_Czech_Republic

There were 3 doctors on GMB this morning and all 3 disagreed on mask wearing. The piece said that if you take an old t shirt and make a mask of 2 layers it will stop 95% of the virus getting out and Hilary Jones didn't think that was good enough because that 5% will still infect people. Seems to me stopping 95% of a cough or sneeze is far better than doing nothing.
