| Teachers 18:19 - Feb 23 with 8538 views | pencoedjack | What gives them the right to think they should jump the queue on a vaccine? Whilst they have been sat on their arse's for a 12 month getting full pay, a lot of us have been out working, others have lost their jobs or have been on 80% pay.. How about the volunteered to work some Saturday mornings or gave up some of their holidays to help kids catch up on their education. | | | | |
| Teachers on 12:31 - Mar 14 with 778 views | Catullus | I've bumped this because, https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ It says around 45% of school cases were teachers, given the number of kids v teachers that is proof techers are more likely to catch covid. One fifth of our teachers were infected. Where else were one in five workers infected? | |

It's why the are so desperate to catch covid, then they have a few months off and get paid for doing nothing...innit!

Good post. Probably the Health Service, I’d imagine they have had higher infection rates, but it just goes to show the risk teachers face. With large numbers of kids probably being asymptomatic it puts things in perspective. [Post edited 14 Mar 2021 16:02]

| Teachers on 16:15 - Mar 14 with 682 views | trampie | Teachers are not more likely to get covid than other members of the general public, teaching unions moan all the time, what about shop workers dealing with the public ?, certain groups want a job and don't look to be tested because they don't want to be positive and lose work and pay, other groups don't mind being tested and having a few weeks off with pay. | |

All pupils in England have been tested in the last week with over 4,000,000 extra tests with a positive test rate of 0.25% meaning approximately 10,000 asymptomatic cases have been found. Once found they have to self isolation so can't infect teachers, other children. Teachers are half as likely as the general population to catch coronavirus. One of the safest job groups. Far safer than NHS, taxi drivers, bus drivers, lorry drivers, supermarket workers, food processing workers to name a few. [Post edited 14 Mar 2021 17:10]

Yes I have immediate family earning 100k plus teaching and 100k plus in the police and immediate family earning minimum wage serving in a shop, you know post office counter and till, etc etc. I know what they do for their money, I know who is working from home (ex amount of days) and who is frontline so to speak.

100k teaching position is hardly your run of the mill primary / comp teacher is it, with classes of 30+. Anyway if the teachers had been vaccinated earlier then the schools could have gone back months ago. I also believe all key workers should have been prioritised. Other opinions freely available.

They started at the bottom and worked their way up, cleaners and shop workers are front line with no voice unlike teachers.

100k is at scale for a secondary Headteacher in a maintained school of around 1500 pupils. Trample knows this as it came up before but has used the term ‘teacher’ deliberately to be disingenuous. In Local Authority schools, the top of the upper pay scale for a straight class teacher without additional responsibilities is £41,604.

Imagine footballers in the Championship being happy with 100k per annum. Makes you realise how groteque footballer are paid. Earn in a day what headteacher earn in a year. It's that bad

He still calls himself a teacher butt, thinking about it - you are not going to have a boyo, well a real one that is, when in a boozer in Wales and somebody says what do you do butt ? he says he is a teacher, I guess in England they would be more likely to say they are a headteacher, would they not Gwyn ?
